WELL, GOOD EVENING EVERYONE. IT'S MY HONOR AND PRIVILEGE TO GIVE SOME HIGHLIGHTS ON SOME OF THE GREAT THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING RIGHT NOW IN COPPELL ISD, OR HAVE BEEN HAPPENING IN THE PAST FEW WEEKS. IT'S BEEN A GREAT COUPLE OF WEEKS IN OUR DISTRICT, SO VERY, VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF.

WANT TO BEGIN WITH THE SPECIAL RECOGNITION AT A NEW TECH HIGH AT COPPELL.

THEY BOTH ACHIEVED AP HONOR ROLL DISTINCTION AT BOTH CHS AND NEW TECH HIGH COPPELL WERE AWARDED THIS ADVANCED PLACEMENT AP HONORABLE DISTINCTION BECAUSE OF THEIR OUTSTANDING WORKS OF THE STUDENTS AND STAFF.

CHS HAS BEEN RECOGNIZED WITH THIS PRESTIGIOUS PLATINUM LEVEL DISTINCTION ON THE AP HONOR ROLL, AND IT'S A TESTAMENT AGAIN TO THE UNWAVERING COMMITMENT OF THE ACADEMIC RIGOR AND STUDENT SUCCESS, THE HARD WORK OF ALL OF OUR EDUCATORS AS WELL AS COUNSELORS, AND CERTAINLY MOST IMPORTANTLY, OUR AMAZING STUDENTS AND THEIR WONDERFUL PARENTS, BUT I DO NOT WANT TO DISCOUNT CHS NINE.

THEY PLAYED A HUGE ROLE IN THAT TOO.

COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL'S ACHIEVEMENT REALLY STARTS AT THE CHS NINE LEVEL WITH THE AP HONOR ROLL PLATINUM DISTINCTION, AS MORE THAN 40% OF CHS NINE'S GRADUATING COHORT TAKES AT LEAST ONE AP EXAM, OR MORE THAN 25% OF THE CHS NINE.

STUDENTS WHO SCORE A THREE OR HIGHER ON AT LEAST ONE AP EXAM.

SO THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU TO CHS NINE, THEIR LEADERSHIP AND THEIR OUTSTANDING STUDENTS, STAFF AND THE SUPPORT OF THEIR PARENTS AS WELL, AND THEN A BIG, BIG SHOUT OUT TO NEW TECH HIGH AT COPPELL.

THEY RECEIVED THE SILVER LEVEL DISTINCTION ON THE AP HONOR ROLL AND THE 2023 AP ACCESS AWARD FOR ENSURING THAT AP COURSEWORK IS EQUALLY AVAILABLE AND EQUITABLE TO ALL STUDENTS, NO MATTER WHAT THEIR BACKGROUND IS, AND THAT'S A NEW ACHIEVEMENT FOR NEW TECH, AND SO WE'RE VERY, VERY PROUD OF THEM.

OUR FINE ARTS PROGRAMS DESERVE A STANDING OVATION FOR THE RECENT ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCES THAT THEY HAVE HAD THESE PAST FEW WEEKS.

OUR HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR RECENTLY PARTICIPATED IN THE REGION 31 TEXAS MUSIC ASSOCIATION'S OR, I'M SORRY, TEXAS MUSIC EDUCATION EDUCATORS ASSOCIATION OR TMEA ALL-STATE CHOIR AUDITIONS.

AMONGST THE 475 COMPETITORS FROM 15 DIFFERENT SCHOOLS, THE CHS HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR VOCALIST SANG THEIR WAY TO THE TOP.

AS 43 SINGERS SECURED THEIR SPOTS IN THE NEXT ROUND OF AUDITIONS.

THIS REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENT NOT ONLY STRIKES A CHORD, BUT ALSO MARKS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF PERFORMERS ADVANCING TO THE NEXT ROUND OF AUDITIONS FROM PARTICIPATING SCHOOLS, WHICH IS A HIGH NOTE FOR SURE.

ANOTHER HIGH NOTE OF OUR CHOIR SINGERS.

THANK YOU FOR THAT, I APPRECIATE THAT.

ANOTHER HIGH NOTE OF OUR CHOIR SINGERS IS THE REGION 31 HONOR CHOIR, WHERE WE HAD 31, I'M SORRY, 33 COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL CHOIR SINGERS WHO HAVE EARNED A CHAIR IN THIS ENSEMBLE, WHICH IS THE HIGHEST NUMBER OF SINGERS AGAIN FOR OUR SCHOOL AND SPECIFICALLY FROM ANY ONE SCHOOL WHO AUDITIONED FOR THIS CHOIR.

SO BRAVO AND BRAVO TO THESE OUTSTANDING SINGERS.

NOW NOT TO ONLY TOOT OUR HORN IN ONE AREA, LET'S TOOT OUR HORN IN BAND AS WELL.

OUR VARSITY, JUNIOR VARSITY, AND MIDDLE SCHOOL BANDS ARE ALL MARCHING TO THE NEXT LEVEL AS THEY CONTINUE WITH THEIR PRESTIGIOUS COMPETITIONS.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE COPPELL VARSITY MARCHING BAND ON BEING RECENTLY NAMED THE 2023 AREA B CHAMPIONS AND ADVANCING TO UIL STATE MARCHING BAND CONTEST.

THEY PARTICIPATED THIS PAST WEEKEND.

I WENT AND SAW THEM LAST WEEK.

THEY WERE OUTSTANDING.

THIS IS THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE AREA CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE COPPELL BAND.

SO VERY, VERY PROUD OF THEM.

COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL JUNIOR VARSITY AND VARSITY MARCHING BAND BOTH RECEIVED A SUPERIOR RATING AT THE UIL REGION 31 MARCHING EVALUATION LAST WEEK, AND THAT, AGAIN IS A TESTAMENT TO THEIR HARD WORK, BUT REALLY, THE STRENGTH OF OUR PROGRAM, JUST LIKE IN SO MANY OTHERS, STARTS AT A YOUNG LEVEL.

SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE GIVE OUR RECOGNITION TO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOL AS WELL, AND THE BEAT GOES ON.

THE COPPELL VARSITY BAND COLOR GUARDS SOARED TO A VERY TRIUMPHANT FOURTH PLACE FINISH AT THE PRESTIGIOUS BAND OF AMERICA BEDFORD REGIONAL COMPETITION THE WEEKEND OF OCTOBER THE 7TH AGAIN LET THE TRUMPETS RING OUT AS WE CONTINUE TO BLAIR AS ASSOCIATE BAND DIRECTOR ROZ MOHAMMED AND THE COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL SYMPHONIC BAND RECENTLY EARNED THE PRESTIGIOUS MEDAL OF DISTINCTION NON-VARSITY NATIONAL WINNER AWARD FROM PERFORM AMERICA, AND IN THE GRAND FINALE, OR SHALL I SAY, THE BAND FINALE. THE 2023 CMS EAST SYMPHONIC BAND RECENTLY RECEIVED A PRESTIGIOUS COMMENDED WINNER RECOGNITION FROM THE TEXAS FOUNDATION OF MUSIC EDUCATION.

THIS SATURDAY, OCTOBER THE 28TH, THE COPPELL BAND, ALONG WITH THE FLOWER MOUND, HEBRON AND KELLER BANDS, WILL BE PERFORMING IN A SHOW OF SHOWS AT BUDDY ECHOLS FIELD STARTING AT 5:30. THIS IS A FREE EVENT FOR ANYBODY THAT WOULD LIKE TO COME, AND IT'S A GREAT OPPORTUNITY TO SEE SOME WORLD CLASS PERFORMANCES.

THE BAND BOOSTERS WILL BE COLLECTING DONATIONS FOR HOMELESS FAMILIES IN NEED AND SPECIFICALLY HOMELESS SHELTERS AT THIS EVENT.

THEY'RE LOOKING FOR SOCKS, TOILETRIES.

ANYTHING THAT YOU ARE ABLE TO GIVE WOULD BE A GREAT WAY TO HELP SUPPORT THIS GROUP.

SO AGAIN, THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU TO OUR OUTSTANDING CHOIR AND BAND PERFORMERS, BUT I WOULD BE REMISS IF I DIDN'T TALK ABOUT THEATER BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO BE RECOGNIZING SOMEBODY TONIGHT. OUR THEATER STUDENTS ALSO PERFORMED AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS.

I'M SURE OUR TRUSTEES WERE HAPPY AS MUCH AS I WAS TO SEE THIS PLAY.

I KNOW OTHER OF OUR BOARD MEMBERS SAW IT TOO.

IT'S IT'S 30 DIFFERENT PLAYS OVER A 60 MINUTE PERIOD AND IT STARTS OCTOBER THE 26TH THROUGH THE 28TH.

OUR VARSITY TENNIS TEAM DESERVES A LOT OF LOVE AS THEY ARE AREA CHAMPIONS.

THE TEAM COMPETED IN THE REGIONAL ROUND OF STATE CHAMPIONSHIP PLAYOFFS LAST WEEK AND WON THEIR QUARTERFINAL MATCH BEFORE FALLING TO SOUTHLAKE CARROLL IN THE REGIONAL SEMIFINALS ON OCTOBER THE 19TH.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR TENNIS TEAM FOR AN INCREDIBLE SEASON.

BOTH JV AND VARSITY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS CROSS THE FINISH LINE AS DISTRICT CHAMPS, PROVING THAT THEY ARE ON THE RUN AND THEY ARE RUNNING ABOVE THE REST.

HENRY [INAUDIBLE] FINISHED FIRST OVERALL AND IS THE DISTRICT 6 6A BOYS CHAMPION.

THIS TEAM, AS WELL AS TWO OF OUR VARSITY GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY QUALIFIERS, WILL COMPETE IN THE SIX A REGIONAL MEET TO BE HELD IN LUBBOCK TOMORROW.

NOT TO BE OUTDONE BY OUR VOLLEYBALL TEAM IS IN THE PLAYOFF HUNT AS WELL.

THEY FINISHED UP DISTRICT PLAY THIS WEEK WITH A BIG HOPE FOR A PLAYOFF BERTH, AND FINALLY, WHAT A COACH, THE DALLAS COWBOYS RECENTLY SELECTED COACH ANTONIO WILEY AS THE WHATABURGER WHAT-A-COACH COACH OF THE WEEK.

THIS IS AN HONOR THAT IS GIVEN BY THE GENE AND JERRY JONES FOUNDATION.

COACH WILEY RECEIVED $2,000 FOR CISD'S ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AND THIS RECOGNITION OUR COPPELL COWBOYS ARE UNDEFEATED AND WILL START THEIR PLAYOFF RUN IN NOVEMBER.

ALL OF THESE ACHIEVEMENTS SHOW THAT COWBOY AND COWGIRL FIGHT NEVER DIES.

SPEAKING OF THINGS THAT NEVER DIE, IT SEEMS LIKE THIS WEEK WE HAVE SOMETHING EVERY SINGLE NIGHT AND TOMORROW NIGHT.

WE WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT THE COMMUNITY WAS AWARE OF THINGS GOING ON IN THE DISTRICT, SPECIFICALLY WANTED TO TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE BOND AND SOME OF OUR STRATEGIC PLANNING WORK, WHICH WE'RE VERY, VERY EXCITED ABOUT, BUT ALSO, AS YOU KNOW, WE'RE IN THE MIDST OF A SPECIAL SESSION, AND WE FEEL LIKE IT WAS AN IMPORTANT TIME FOR OUR COMMUNITY TO BE AWARE OF THINGS THAT ARE GOING ON NOT ONLY IN CISD BUT DOWN IN AUSTIN.

SO JOKING ABOUT THE BUSYNESS OF THIS WEEK, BUT SERIOUSLY HOPE EVERYBODY CAN COME.

LIKE I SAID AT NEW TECH AND VICTORY PLACE, THIS IS A REAL INSIGHTFUL DAY THAT'S BROUGHT TOGETHER COMMUNITY PARTNERS WHO GENEROUSLY SHARE THEIR EXPERTISE IN VARIOUS ESSENTIAL TOPICS INCLUDING COOKING, CAR MAINTENANCE, PERSONAL FINANCE, NAVIGATING THE INTRICACIES OF RENTING AN APARTMENT, PURCHASING YOUR FIRST CAR, UNDERSTANDING THE IMPORTANCE OF HEALTH CARE CHECKUPS, SO ON AND SO FORTH.

IT'S A REALLY, REALLY GREAT THING FOR OUR KIDS.

IT'S ORGANIZED BY FORMER CHS TEACHER MEGAN [INAUDIBLE], AND THE EVENT WAS A RESOUNDING SUCCESS, HELPING TO EQUIP CISD GRADUATING SENIORS WITH VALUABLE TOOLS TO NAVIGATE THE CHALLENGES OF ADULTHOOD AS THEY EMBARK ON THEIR JOURNEY.

JUST BECAUSE YOU ACED CHEMISTRY OR ENGLISH, OF COURSE, MY HIGH SCHOOL CLASSES ARE VERY IMPORTANT.

COPPELL ISD IS GIVING ALL ITS SENIORS A JUMP START ON THE REAL WORLD BASICS THAT ARE A PART OF GROWING UP.

ADULTING DAY IS ALL ABOUT LEARNING ALL OF THOSE EXTRA SKILLS AND KIND OF TIPS, MAYBE THAT YOU DON'T ALWAYS GET IN THE CLASSROOM.

STUDENTS GOT TO PICK FROM A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT SESSIONS, FROM SELF-DEFENSE AND HOME BUYING TO MONEY MANAGEMENT.

TODAY'S CLASS IS CAR MAINTENANCE, ROADSIDE EMERGENCIES, AND HOW TO BUY A CAR, ALL PUT ON BY MORE THAN 40 BUSINESS PARTNERS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS EAGER TO IMPART SOME WISDOM.

WE ARE GOING TO BE TEACHING THEM HOW TO MEAL PLAN, HOW TO GO SHOPPING FOR GROCERIES, AND HOW TO MAKE EASY AND HEALTHY MEALS WITHOUT A FANCY KITCHEN. THEY'RE VERY SURPRISED WHENEVER THEY CAN LEARN TO MICROWAVE EGGS, AND THEY MAY BE JUST AS SURPRISED TO LEARN ALL ABOUT PERSONAL FINANCE, LOOKING HOW WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO HAVE TAXES THAT WE HAVE TO PAY FOR.

WE NEED TO KNOW HOW TO DO IT. WE NEED TO BUDGET, WE NEED TO PLAN, AND I THINK IT'S JUST KIND OF A LOT TO TAKE IN THAT WE SHOULD KIND OF APPLY FOR A FUTURE, A FUTURE THAT FEELS LIKE IT'S ONLY A FEW MONTHS AWAY FROM BEGINNING.

I'M REALLY HOPING THAT THIS WILL GIVE ME, LIKE CONFIDENCE TO BECOME MORE INDEPENDENT, ESPECIALLY NOW THAT I'M LEAVING FOR COLLEGE, MOVING AWAY FROM MY PARENTS AND MY FAMILY.

WHETHER THESE STUDENTS ARE HEADED FOR COLLEGE, A JOB, OR THE MILITARY AFTER GRADUATION, THE DISTRICT HOPES THESE LESSONS IN ADULTING MAKE THE TRANSITION A LITTLE EASIER.

THE MOST POPULAR AND WELL ATTENDED CLASSES TODAY WERE COOKING AND MEAL PLANNING, PERSONAL TAXES, INVESTING, AND HOW TO TRAVEL THE WORLD ON A BUDGET.

NUMBER 12 LOOKS AT THE DEBT PER $100 OF ASSESSED PROPERTY VALUE, AND CAN THE DISTRICT MEET ITS FUTURE DEBT PAYMENTS? AND YES, THE RATIO IS IS HIGH ENOUGH AND THE DISTRICT WILL BE ABLE TO MEET FUTURE DEBT PAYMENTS.

SO WE ARE STILL SEEING GOOD JOB GROWTH IN THE DFW REGION.

WE ARE SEEING POPULATION GROWTH CONTINUE TO COME INTO THE DFW REGION.

THE CLOUDINESS AROUND THE ECONOMY CONTINUES TO BE IN HIGH INFLATION.

SO INFLATION IS STILL A HUGE CONCERN.

THE COST OF HOUSING CONTINUES TO GO UP.

IT'S LIKELY WE COULD SEE ANOTHER INTEREST RATE HIKE IN DECEMBER, WHICH WOULD MEAN THAT 30 YEAR FIXED RATE MORTGAGE RATE COULD MOVE UP EVEN HIGHER OVER 7%, WHICH DOES MAKE IT CHALLENGING IN THE HOUSING MARKET.

SO IT'S SOMETHING WE'LL WATCH VERY CLOSELY.

WHEN WE LOOK AT THE OVERALL HOUSING MARKET FOR THE DFW REGION, THE PURPLE BAR IS THE ANNUALIZED SINGLE FAMILY START RATE.

YOU CAN SEE HOW IT'S SHOT UP DURING THE PANDEMIC.

ABOUT A YEAR AND A HALF AGO IT PEAKED, AND THEN IT STARTED ITS DECLINED.

THAT WAS IN RESPONSE TO THE RISING INTEREST RATES.

THE FED TOOK A VERY GRADUAL INCREASE APPROACH.

THEY LIFTED IT JUST A POINT AND A HALF POINTS AT A TIME TO NOW WE'RE AT OVER 7%.

YOU'LL SEE THE IMPACT ON THE STARTS.

YOU'LL NOTICE THE CLOSINGS KIND OF HELD FLAT BECAUSE THERE WAS SO MUCH IN THE PIPELINE, SO MUCH UNDER CONSTRUCTION, THE INCREASED TIME IT TOOK TO GET HOMES FINISHED, AND SO THAT'S LED TO THAT KIND OF PLATEAU.

THE COPPELL MARKET IS ONE OF THE MOST EXPENSIVE MARKETS IN THE DFW REGION.

THAT'S GOT SOME CHALLENGES IN THAT IT CREATES A THE FAMILY MAKEUP TENDS TO BE OLDER, IT TENDS TO HAVE FEWER YOUNGER KIDS.

SO WE DON'T SEE THAT REGENERATION AT THE YOUNGER GRADE LEVELS.

SO WE DO SEE SOME KIDS FROM THE HOUSES, BUT THEY TEND TO BE OLDER AND NOT AS MANY.

WE STILL HAVE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MULTIFAMILY TO BUILD IN THE CYPRESS WATERS PROJECT.

WE'LL COVER THAT IN THESE FUTURE SLIDES, BUT OVERALL, WE'VE GOT ABOUT 187 LOTS AVAILABLE FOR BUILDERS TO BUILD ON.

THERE'S A FEW FUTURES LEFT, BUT AGAIN, IT'S VERY SMALL IN THOSE LITTLE GREEN AREAS THAT ARE SHADED IN THE WILSON ZONE AND THE PINKERTON ZONE.

I'VE GOT A LOT OF CLIENTS THAT DON'T SEE THAT THEY'RE SEEING THE LEAVERS OUTNUMBER THE NEWCOMERS.

WE MEASURE STUDENT IDS AGAINST THE PREVIOUS YEAR, SO WE'RE LOOKING FOR NEW STUDENT IDS IN THIS STUDENT FILE.

COMPARED TO THE LEFT WOULD BE THE MISSING STUDENT IDS FROM THE PREVIOUS YEAR, AND YOU'LL NOTICE IT'S SIMILAR TO WHAT WE'VE SEEN IN PREVIOUS YEARS.

THE KINDERGARTEN NUMBERS ARE LOWER, AND SO THE SENIOR CLASS, THOSE HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATING CLASSES, OUTNUMBER THAT KINDERGARTEN BY SEVERAL HUNDRED. SO THIS IS THE SAME PHENOMENON THAT WE SEE IN LEWISVILLE AND PLANO, AND IT'S GOING TO LEAD TO DECLINING ENROLLMENT, BUT IT'S MOSTLY THE FACT THAT YOU'RE GRADUATING LARGER NUMBERS BECAUSE THE NEWCOMERS ARE OUTNUMBERING THE LEAVERS.

SO IT FEELS NOT GOOD, BUT IT'S REALLY NOT A FUNCTION OF WHAT'S GOING ON WITHIN COPPELL ISD.

IT'S JUST THE HOUSING PROBLEM WITH THE HIGH COST OF HOUSING THAT WHEN WE DO GENERATE, WE'RE NOT REGENERATING AT THE LEVELS THAT YOU MIGHT SEE WITH HOMES THAT MIGHT BE PRICED IN THE 350 TO $400,000 RANGE; STILL FEELS EXPENSIVE, BUT THAT HAS BECOME THE PRICE POINT FOR YOUNG FAMILIES WITH YOUNGER KIDS.

SO AS AGAIN, FOR A POINT OF CLARITY, THE LEAVERS INCLUDES STUDENTS THAT HAVE GRADUATED.

HOMESCHOOL HAS BECOME, IN MY OPINION, THE BIGGEST CAUSE OF ENROLLMENT REMOVAL OR LEFT PUBLIC SCHOOLS IS HOMESCHOOL.

I DID AN EXTENSIVE STUDY ON HOMESCHOOL OVER THE SUMMER AND WENT TO THE HOMESCHOOL CONFERENCE.

THE STATE CONFERENCE IN TEXAS.

I INTERVIEWED PROBABLY 50 FAMILIES, 50 COUPLES THAT WERE IN THE SESSIONS THAT I ATTENDED.

TO MY SURPRISE, THERE WAS A CERTAIN ELEMENT THAT I THAT I SUSPECTED WAS THERE, THAT WAS THERE, WHICH WAS THE RELIGIOUS RIGHT IDEOLOGY. IT WAS MORE OF AN IDEOLOGY ISSUE, BUT THE BIGGEST NUMBER THAT I INTERVIEWED WAS THE MILLENNIALS, THAT WERE ALL ABOUT THE FLEXIBILITY OF CONTROLLING THE SCHOOL DAY, THE SCHOOL WEEK, WHEN TO HAVE HOLIDAYS OR WHEN TO TAKE BREAKS, AND THEY WANTED THAT ABILITY TO HAVE MORE CONTROL AND MORE FLEXIBILITY, BECAUSE IN MANY CASES, ONE OF THEM WAS EITHER WORKING REMOTELY AND THERE WAS SOME FLEXIBILITY IN WHERE THEY WORKED, AND SO THEY WANTED THAT FLEXIBILITY.

THAT SURPRISED ME THAT WAS SUCH A BIG FACTOR.

IT WAS NOT ABOUT AN IDEOLOGY OR ABOUT A REMOVAL OF HAVING A CONFLICT WITH, WITH ANYTHING GOING ON WITH THE LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT.

NO, IT WAS ALL ABOUT REMOTE LEARNING.

THEY DIDN'T HAVE REMOTE LEARNING AS AN OPTION WITH THEIR LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICT, SO THEY FOUND THE WAY TO DO IT THROUGH HOMESCHOOL.

THE HOMESCHOOL ARE CREATING MICRO COMMUNITIES OF LEARNERS THAT CO-OP AND KIND OF COOPERATE TOGETHER AND THEY WORK TOGETHER AND IT'S HIGHLY FUNDED.

THERE WERE 150 VENDORS.

I APOLOGIZE, I'VE GOTTEN ON A LITTLE SIDETRACKED.

150 VENDORS WERE AT THIS CONFERENCE, AND THEY WERE SELLING THEIR PRODUCT RIGHT AND LEFT, AND IT WAS PROBABLY 6000 IN ATTENDANCE AT THIS CONFERENCE.

THE SECOND LARGEST GRADE IS THE NINTH GRADE, AND YOU CAN SEE THAT HAS STAYED EITHER THE LARGEST OR THE SECOND LARGEST.

ONE OF THE OTHER PHENOMENONS THAT WE'RE SEEING IS WITH MANY OF OUR CLIENTS, WE'RE SEEING A SOFTENING IN THE YOUNGER GRADE LEVELS, AND IT COULD BE PARTIALLY DUE TO HOME SCHOOL AND TRANSFER AND CHARTER, BUT WE ARE SEEING A LITTLE BIT OF A COHORT UPTICK IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

SO WE'RE SEEING THE POTENTIAL FOR A NEW EMERGING TREND OF THE RETURN FROM THE HOME SCHOOL AND THE CHARTER AND THE THOSE ALTERNATE CHOICES RETURNING IN MIDDLE SCHOOL BECAUSE OF THE LOCAL PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT'S STRENGTH IN EXTRACURRICULAR FINE ARTS, ATHLETICS AND THEY CANNOT REPLICATE THAT IN HOME SCHOOL AND THEY REALLY CAN'T REPLICATE IT IN THE CHARTER SCHOOL ENVIRONMENT EITHER YOUR FINE ARTS AND YOUR ATHLETICS ARE SO STRONG THAT IS GOING TO CAUSE A LITTLE BIT OF THAT RETURN.

WE SEE THE SAME THING WITH MANY, MANY OF OUR DISTRICTS.

WE THINK THAT'S GOING TO REALLY ROUTE ITSELF, AND WE'RE GOING TO BE ABLE TO REALLY SEE IT FIRM UP EACH YEAR THAT WE SEE THESE NUMBERS SLIGHTLY UPTICK.

THAT TABLE IN THE MIDDLE IS THE COHORT TABLE, AND YOU CAN SEE THE COHORT CHANGES NINTH THE FIRST GRADE VERY STRONG 9% GROWTH AT FIRST GRADE.

THE ALL OF THE ELEMENTARY GRADE LEVELS WITH THE EXCEPTION OF KINDERGARTEN WERE POSITIVE.

SO YOU'RE GROWING AT EVERY ELEMENTARY GRADE LEVEL, BUT WHEN YOU LOOK AT THAT KINDERGARTEN NUMBER OF 700 COMPARED TO THE FIFTH GRADE NUMBER OF 1000, THAT IS ALMOST 300 STUDENTS DIFFERENT.

SO I THINK WE MAY BE AT PEAK TOTAL ENROLLMENT RIGHT NOW.

WE MAY BE AT PEAK ENROLLMENT.

I THOUGHT LAST YEAR I THOUGHT IT WAS TWO YEARS AWAY.

NOW IT COULD BE THAT IT'S HERE RIGHT NOW.

NOW, WHEN I SAY THAT, THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS ARE GOING TO BE AT PEAK ENROLLMENT.

THE MIDDLE SCHOOLS STILL HAVE A LITTLE BIT OF TIME BEFORE THEY'RE GOING TO SEE THEIR PEAK.

HIGH SCHOOLS GOT EVEN LONGER BEFORE THEY HIT THEIR PEAK.

THIS IS WHAT THE FIVE YEAR FORECAST LOOKS LIKE FOR THE NEXT FIVE YEARS.

IT IS MEASURED AGAINST ITSELF.

SO I AM MEASURING THIS YEAR'S KINDERGARTEN CLASS AGAINST THE PREVIOUS KINDERGARTEN CLASS.

IT DOESN'T I DON'T LIKE TO MEASURE IT AGAINST THE PRE-K BECAUSE IT'S REALLY NOT A GOOD CORRELATION, BUT THEN THE FIRST GRADE CLASS, I AM MEASURING IT AGAINST THE PREVIOUS KINDERGARTEN CLASS.

GOTCHA, AND THEN FOR EACH GRADE GOING FORWARD, IT'S MEASURED AGAINST THE THAT TRUE COHORT.

THIS FIRST GRADE CLASS TRULY WERE CLASSMATES AS KINDERGARTNERS, AND SO THEN YOU CAN SEE THE FIRST THROUGH FIFTH, SIXTH, SEVENTH, EIGHTH, NINTH ALL POSITIVE.

IT'S JUST THE 11TH AND 12TH, WHICH THAT HAPPENS AT ALL HIGH SCHOOLS.

WE ARE SEEING MORE AND MORE KIDS THAT ARE GRADUATING EARLY BECAUSE OF THE ABILITY TO PICK UP THOSE CREDITS, BUT EVERY OTHER GRADE LEVEL IS POSITIVE.

I DON'T SEE THAT AS MUCH IN LIKE SOME OF THE MORE URBAN DISTRICTS.

THE URBAN DISTRICTS WILL SEE NEGATIVE COHORTS AT MOST OF THEIR GRADES, BUT YOURS IS BECAUSE I THINK IT'S TWO REASONS COST OF HOUSING.

WE'RE NOT SEEING REGENERATION AT THE YOUNGER GRADE LEVELS, AND THEN THE CHARTERS AND THE TRANSFER POOL, EVEN THOUGH IT'S SMALL, IF WE LOSE 50 TO 100 KIDS, PERCENTAGE WISE IT'S A SMALL PERCENTAGE, BUT THEN OVER TIME IT COMPOUNDS.

ANY OTHER QUESTIONS? SO HERE'S A LOOK AT THE PROJECTIONS, AND YOU CAN SEE IN THE NEXT FIVE YEARS WE COULD BE DROPPING JUST BELOW 13,000 KIDS.

I DO FEEL LIKE THE HOME SCHOOL GROUP REALLY TOOK ADVANTAGE OF THE PANDEMIC THROUGH HYBRID REMOTE OPPORTUNITIES, AND THERE'S A GROUP OF FAMILIES THAT THEY WANT THAT OR AT LEAST THEY WANT IT IN THE YOUNGER YEARS.

I THINK IT'LL IT'LL CHANGE OVER TIME, AND WE'LL SEE THE RETURN OF THAT COHORT IN UPPER ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE SCHOOL GRADE LEVELS.

WE DO THINK YOUR MIDDLE SCHOOL ENROLLMENT IS LIKELY GOING TO PEAK IN THE NEXT 1 TO 2 YEARS.

SO SOMEONE LIKE IN MY CASE, COULD HAVE KEPT THEIR KIDS VIRTUALLY AND STILL TRAVELED OR SOMETHING? OUR LANGUAGE ACQUISITION SPECIALISTS PROVIDE LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY ASSESSMENTS TO ALL OF THESE LEARNERS IN ORDER TO DETERMINE IF LANGUAGE PROGRAMING OF ESL OR BILINGUAL PROGRAMING IS RECOMMENDED.

THE DATA SHOWS THAT WHILE THERE WERE 60 LANGUAGES REPRESENTED IN COPPELL ISD LAST YEAR, THE TOP FIVE LANGUAGES CONTINUED TO BE TELUGU, SPANISH, HINDI, TAMIL AND KOREAN.

OF THOSE, MORE THAN 4000 LEARNERS WITH A LANGUAGE OTHER THAN ENGLISH IN THEIR HOMES.

OVER 2400 STUDENTS WERE IDENTIFIED AS EMERGENT BILINGUALS AND RECEIVING ESL OR BILINGUAL PROGRAMING LAST YEAR.

THIS NUMBER HAS DOUBLED IN THE LAST FIVE YEARS AND WE ARE CURRENTLY, AS OF TODAY, WELL OVER 2600 AT THIS POINT IN THIS YEAR.

THE TOP FIVE LANGUAGES.

AMONG THE LEARNERS FOR WHOM WE PROVIDE ESL AND BILINGUAL SERVICES ARE TELUGU, SPANISH, TAMIL, HINDI AND ARABIC.

FOR THESE LEARNERS, WE PROVIDE BILINGUAL EDUCATION IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH THROUGH OUR DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION IN PRE K-5 AT DENTON CREEK AND WILSON, AND ENGLISH AS A SECOND LANGUAGE OR ESL IN PRE K THROUGH 12 AT EVERY CAMPUS ACROSS THE DISTRICT.

ANALYZING AND REPORTING THE LINGUISTIC AND ACADEMIC PROGRESS OF EMERGENT BILINGUAL STUDENTS IS COMPLETED EACH YEAR.

IN ADDITION, ALL EDUCATORS ACROSS THE DISTRICT ARE TRAINED, COACHED, AND SUPPORTED BY LANGUAGE ACQUISITION SPECIALISTS ON EACH CAMPUS TO DESIGN INSTRUCTION WITH LINGUISTIC DEVELOPMENT IN MIND.

THE DATA SHOWS THAT OUR EMERGENT BILINGUAL STUDENTS HAVE REBOUNDED VERY NICELY FROM COVID, AND THE READING DATA IS FAIRLY CONSISTENT ACROSS THE GRADE LEVELS IN ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH SCHOOL.

EACH YEAR, THE DISTRICT HAS BEEN ENROLLING AN INCREASED NUMBER OF LEARNERS WHO ARE NEW TO THE COUNTRY AND AT THE VERY BEGINNING STAGES OF ADDING ENGLISH TO THEIR LANGUAGE REPERTOIRE.

SO THAT FUNDING GOES DIRECTLY TO THESE SERVICES.

IN ADDITION TO THESE NEWCOMER SERVICES WE OFFER, WE OFFER A COMMUNITY BUS TOUR TO GET TO KNOW THE STAFF, DISTRICT, TOWN LAW ENFORCEMENT, SAFETY AGENCIES. LAST YEAR WE HAD ONE TOUR SERVING 90 PEOPLE, AND THIS YEAR WE HAVE FOUND IT NECESSARY TO EXPAND TO TWO TOURS. IN ADDITION TO THE MONTHLY PARENT CLASSES PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED, WE ALSO HAVE MONTHLY PARENT COLLABORATIVE MEETINGS FOR PARENTS OF STUDENTS IN DLI OR DUAL LANGUAGE IMMERSION.

SO MOST OF THE OBJECTIVES HAVE TWO STRATEGIES, AND SO THAT MEANS THERE WILL BE 16 ACTION TEAMS THAT NOW WILL BE FORMED AND WILL BEGIN TO BUILD THE TACTICS AROUND THOSE OBJECTIVES AND STRATEGIES, AND SO THAT WORK IS WILL BE BEGINNING IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, AND WE WILL BE HEAVILY WORKING ON THAT.

SO WE WILL HAVE 16 TEAMS. THE TEAMS WILL BE MADE UP OF 8 TO 10 MEMBERS, AND THOSE WILL AGAIN BE MADE UP OF STAFF MEMBERS, PARENTS, STUDENTS AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. SO WE WILL HAVE 16 TEAMS, PROBABLY ABOUT 160 PEOPLE THAT WILL BE WORKING ON DIFFERENT PARTS OF THIS PLAN.

SO AND I WOULD LIKE TO PUT A CALL OUT TO ANYONE WHO WOULD LIKE TO BE A PART OF THIS ACTION TEAMS, WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A SIGN UP GOING OUT.
