ALL RIGHT. TIME IS 6:00, AND I AM GOING TO CALL THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE COPPELL INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT IN THE SESSION. [I. CALL TO ORDER] [00:00:08] FIRST THING WE NEED TO DO IS ESTABLISH QUORUM. WE'LL START ON MY LEFT. FIRST THING, DR. [III. DISTRICT HIGHLIGHTS AND UPDATES] HUNT, DISTRICT HIGHLIGHTS AND UPDATES. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, PRESIDENT CAVINESS. AND GOOD EVENING, EVERYONE. IT'S MY PLEASURE TO UPDATE THE COMMUNITY AND THE BOARD WITH SOME OF THE AMAZING THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN GOING ON IN CISD OVER THE PAST FEW WEEKS. I WANT TO BEGIN WITH OUR COMMUNITY TAILGATE. COLLECTIVE ENGAGEMENT IS ONE OF OUR CORE VALUES, AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, AND THIS EVENT COMPLETELY ALIGNS AND REFLECTS SO MUCH OF WHAT THAT VALUE IS ALL ABOUT. WE HELD OUR COMMUNITY TAILGATE ON FEBRUARY THE 27TH, AND AS MANY OF YOU KNOW, THE WEATHER WAS PREDICTED TO GET A LITTLE INTENSE. AND SO WE BUMPED UP THE FOOTBALL GAME EARLY. AND SO THAT CAUSED EVERYBODY TO BUMP EVERYTHING UP EARLY, INCLUDING OUR COMMUNITY TAILGATE. BUT I DO WANT TO THANK OUR COMMUNICATIONS TEAM FOR BEING SO NIMBLE AND FLEXIBLE, AS THEY WERE ABLE TO QUICKLY PIVOT THE LOCATION FROM THE FIELD HOUSE TO INSIDE THE COMMONS. SO THANK YOU TO THE TEAM AND ALSO TO PRINCIPAL LAURA SPRINGER FOR WORKING SO CLOSELY WITH THE TEAM TO HELP COME UP WITH A GREAT SOLUTION FOR THIS EVENT. WE HAD WELL OVER 500 MEALS THAT WERE SOLD AND LOTS OF PARTICIPANTS. WE HAD OVER 20 DIFFERENT COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND BUSINESS PARTNERS THERE THAT SPONSORED VARIOUS BOOTHS. IT WAS REALLY A LOT OF FUN, AND IT'S A TRADITION WE'VE HAD FOR THE PAST FEW YEARS, AND I THINK WE MAY HAVE FOUND OUR NEW HOME. HAVING IT INSIDE THE BUILDING WAS KIND OF A PLUS. SO THANK YOU TO EVERYBODY WHO CAME OUT TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY TAILGATE. AND AGAIN, THANK YOU TO OUR COMMUNICATIONS TEAM FOR PUTTING IT ALL ON. ALSO, ALONG THE SAME LINES OF COLLECTIVE ENGAGEMENT, I WANT TO HIGHLIGHT WHAT'S GOING ON IN OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION AND EMERGENT BILINGUAL AREAS. WE ARE VERY FORTUNATE TO HAVE SOME INCREDIBLE FAMILIES IN BOTH SPECIAL EDUCATION AND THOSE FAMILIES THAT ARE THAT DO HAVE CHILDREN THAT ARE RECEIVING SERVICES AS EMERGENT BILINGUAL LEARNERS. OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION DEPARTMENT HOSTS A COFFEE AND CONNECTION EVENT SEVERAL TIMES THROUGHOUT THE SEMESTER. IT ALLOWS OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION FAMILIES TO NOT ONLY CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER, BUT ALSO TO CONNECT WITH OUR STAFF. IT GIVES THEM AN ABILITY TO NETWORK, PROBLEM SOLVE, SHARE IDEAS. THOSE ARE SPECIAL SHOES THAT PEOPLE WALK IN. AND SO TO BE ABLE TO FIND SOMEONE THAT WALKS IN SIMILAR SHOES AS YOU, I THINK IS A REALLY NICE TREAT. IN ADDITION TO OUR SPECIAL EDUCATION TEAM HOSTING THIS EVENT, THEY ALSO HAVE VARIOUS INFORMATION SESSIONS AND SUPER INVOLVED WITH VARIOUS SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKERS SO THAT FAMILIES CAN LEARN MORE ABOUT SERVICES THAT ARE AVAILABLE NOT ONLY IN CISD, BUT ALSO BEYOND AND BEYOND CISD AND FOR OUR EMERGENT BILINGUAL FAMILIES. CISD HOSTS AN ANNUAL BUS TOUR FOR NEWCOMERS TO CISD TO LEARN MORE ABOUT THE DISTRICT AND THE COMMUNITY, AND IN ADDITION, WE OFFER FREE ENGLISH CLASSES AT COPPELL MIDDLE SCHOOL EAST ON TUESDAY AND COPPELL MIDDLE SCHOOL, I'M SORRY, IN WILSON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL ON THURSDAY, AND THAT'S OPEN TO ANYBODY THAT WOULD LIKE TO BRUSH UP ON THEIR ENGLISH SKILLS, BUT THE BUS TOUR WAS A REAL TREAT. THEY CAME HERE AND TALKED TO ME FOR A LITTLE BIT. I GOT TO MEET SOME GREAT FAMILIES. OUR APPARENT LIAISONS ON OUR CAMPUSES WORKED VERY CLOSELY TO HELP MAKE SURE THAT ALL OF OUR FAMILIES FEEL CONNECTED AND A PART OF THE CISD FAMILY, AND HIGHLIGHT OUR CORE VALUE OF OF ENGAGEMENT. OUR NEXT CORE VALUE THAT WE WANT TO SHOWCASE IS GREAT TEACHING, AND I THINK OF NO BETTER WAY TO SHOWCASE THAT THAN OUR FIRST GRADING PERIOD. CISD SUPER TEACHERS. THESE INDIVIDUALS ARE ALL POSTED ON THE SCREEN IN FRONT OF YOU. THEY REPRESENT BOTH ELEMENTARY, MIDDLE, AND HIGH SCHOOL. THEY ARE OUTSTANDING MEN AND WOMEN THAT GO ABOVE AND BEYOND EACH AND EVERY DAY TO FOCUS ON ALL OF OUR CORE VALUES IN CISD, BUT ESPECIALLY HIGHLIGHTING GREAT TEACHING. I WANT TO GIVE A VERY SPECIAL THANK YOU TO OUR SUPER TEACHERS PROGRAM SPONSOR, RBFCU CREDIT UNION FOR HELPING TO MAKE THIS RECOGNITION SO POSSIBLE. HELPING TO MAKE THIS RECOGNITION POSSIBLE AND SO MEANINGFUL TO ALL OF OUR SUPER TEACHERS. ANOTHER WAY THAT WE FOCUS ON OUR CORE VALUES IS REDEFINING SUCCESS. AND WE SAW THAT IN FULL SWING LAST WEEK ON NOVEMBER THE 8TH AT OUR SIGNING DAY. I'M SURE IT'LL BE THE FIRST OF MANY. WE HAD SEVERAL LAST YEAR. I THINK THIS YEAR'S SENIOR CLASS WILL ALSO FOLLOW SUIT. WE HAD SEVEN, I'M SORRY, CISD HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT ATHLETES PARTICIPATE IN THE NATIONAL SIGNING DAY AT THE CHS [00:05:04] ARENA. LIKE I SAID LAST WEEK, THESE YOUNG WOMEN AND THIS YOUNG MAN HAVE DEVOTED COUNTLESS HOURS OF TRAINING AND PERFECTING THEIR CRAFT. THEY ARE AMONG THE 7% OF HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES IN THE COUNTRY WHO ADVANCED TO ATHLETICS AT THE COLLEGIATE LEVEL. AND SO ALL OF THEIR PHOTOS AND WHERE THEY'RE GOING AND THEIR NAMES ARE ON THE SCREEN IN FRONT OF YOU. VERY PROUD OF OUR STUDENT ATHLETES. THANK YOU TO COACH POWELL AND DR. LONG AND EVERYBODY IN THAT ATHLETICS DEPARTMENT FOR MAKING THIS EVENT SO SPECIAL. AND CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR OUTSTANDING SENIOR ATHLETES THAT ARE GOING TO BE PARTICIPATING IN ATHLETICS AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL. AND THEN ALSO, AGAIN, LOOKING AT REDEFINING SUCCESS, WE HAD OUR UIL ELEMENTARY ACADEMICS ON NOVEMBER THE 4TH, AND I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF PRESENTING THE AWARD TO MOCKINGBIRD ELEMENTARY SCHOOL STUDENTS. THEY GOT THE TROPHY AS THE WINNER FOR ELEMENTARY UIL ACADEMICS THAT WAS HELD AT PINKERTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, ALSO PLACING WHERE COTTONWOOD CREEK AND PINKERTON. ALL THE SCHOOLS HAD TEAMS THEY WERE ABLE TO COMPETE AND LEARN AND GROW IN THE ACADEMIC COMPETITION HAD A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF PARENT VOLUNTEERS. SO THANK YOU TO OUR PARENTS FOR HELPING. I WANT TO THANK ALL OF OUR PARENT VOLUNTEERS, OUR COACHES, AND ESPECIALLY OUR STUDENTS FOR EVERYTHING THEY DID TO HELP MAKE THE UIL ELEMENTARY ACADEMIC EVENT SO SPECIAL. AND THEN I WANT TO TAKE A FEW MINUTES TO ACKNOWLEDGE OUR WONDERFUL THINGS THAT WERE GOING ON THIS PAST WEEK WITH VETERANS DAY. VETERANS DAY WAS CELEBRATED FOR US ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER THE 10TH. IT WAS ACTUALLY NOVEMBER THE 11TH. AND THERE ARE JUST GREAT WAYS TO HIGHLIGHT OUR CORE VALUE OF AUTHENTIC RELATIONSHIPS. YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PICTURES, THERE WERE SO MANY GREAT THINGS THAT OUR CAMPUSES WERE ABLE TO DO TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR VETERANS FELT RECOGNIZED, VALUED, AND IMPORTANT. IT'S ONE OF MY FAVORITE TRADITIONS IN CISD. EACH OF OUR CAMPUSES HONORS AND CELEBRATES OUR VETERANS IN A VERY UNIQUE AND SPECIAL WAY. MANY OF THE VETERANS ARE ACTUALLY EMPLOYEES OF OUR DISTRICT, BUT ALSO SOME ARE GRANDPARENTS, AUNTS, UNCLES, MOTHERS AND FATHERS, FAMILY, FRIENDS, YOU NAME IT. ONE OF THE EVENTS THAT WAS A REAL HIGHLIGHT FOR ME WAS AT VICTORY PLACE AT COPPELL. THEY HAD A CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR RECIPIENT, STAFF SERGEANT SALVADOR GIUNTA. I KNOW THAT MS. WALKER AND MR. HILL AND MS. BENTLEY WERE THERE ALSO. HE WAS REALLY, REALLY OUTSTANDING. JUST A GREAT, GREAT SPEAKER. THERE'S JUST A GREAT WAY FOR US TO END THE WEEK BY CELEBRATING OUR AMAZING VETERANS, AND IT WAS GREAT FOR OUR KIDS TO BE ABLE TO PARTICIPATE. WE HAD SO MANY OF OUR BAND KIDS PLAYING TAPS ALL OVER THE DISTRICT. WE HAD BOY SCOUTS HELPING TO RAISE THE FLAGS. IT JUST WAS A REALLY, REALLY GREAT COMMUNITY EVENT. AND I JUST WANT TO AGAIN THANK ALL OF OUR VETERANS FOR THEIR SERVICE AND ESPECIALLY ANY OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS THAT ALSO SERVED. WE APPRECIATE WHAT THEY HAVE DONE FOR OUR DISTRICT AND OUR COUNTRY. AND THEN FINALLY, WE'RE GOING TO CLOSE WITH A VERY SPECIAL TREAT. IT'S AN I HEART CISD TESTIMONIAL. I HEART CISD BECAUSE OF THE AMAZING TEACHERS AND STAFF WE HAVE HERE. EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM ARE CONSTANTLY ROOTING FOR OUR SUCCESS, BOTH ACADEMICALLY AND OUTSIDE OF SCHOOL AS WELL. I REALLY APPRECIATE THAT. I HEART CISD BECAUSE I REALLY BELIEVE THAT IT HAS PROGRAMS THAT PREPARE YOU FOR THE REAL WORLD, PREPARE YOU FOR ADULTHOOD. I PARTICIPATED IN KSBY WHEN I WAS A SOPHOMORE THROUGH SENIOR, AND I'M IN MEDIA NOW. IT COMPLETELY PAVE THE WAY FOR ME TO DO THAT WITH MY LIFE, AND I OWE SO MUCH OF THAT TO COPPELL, SO THANK YOU CISD. THAT CONCLUDES OUR DISTRICT. HIGHLIGHTS. THANK YOU, DR. HUNT. WE'LL MOVE INTO OUR AWARDS PORTION OF THE EVENING. [IV. AWARDS] BELIEVE. ARE YOU KICKING THAT OFF? YEAH, YEAH. OKAY. WELL, TONIGHT WE HAVE THE PRIVILEGE OF RECOGNIZING SOME OF OUR AMAZING STUDENTS FOR TOP ACHIEVEMENTS IN ATHLETICS, THE FINE ARTS, AND FOR ACCOMPLISHMENT AT THE STATE HIGH SCHOOL CHESS TOURNAMENT, WHICH WILL BE OUR FINAL MOVE FOR OUR BOARD AWARDS. SPECIFICALLY, WE'LL RECOGNIZE TWO CROSS COUNTRY RUNNERS FOR QUALIFYING FOR THE STATE MEET. TRUSTEES ARE ALREADY HERE TO GATHER THE DAIS TO CONGRATULATE THESE EXCEPTIONAL STUDENTS, AS DR. HUNT GIVES OUR STAGE DIRECTIONS AND WE PRESENT THE AWARDS. GREAT. THANK YOU, MR. MATTHEW. SO WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN IS I'M GOING TO CALL YOU UP BY NAME, AND I'M GOING TO ACTUALLY I'M GOING TO SAY SOME NICE THINGS ABOUT YOU. THEN I'M GOING TO HAVE YOU COME UP. WE'RE GOING TO LET YOU COME UP WITH YOUR CERTIFICATE. YOU'LL SHAKE EVERYBODY'S HAND, AND THEN YOU'RE GOING TO STAND ON THE X AND THEN FACE THE AUDIENCE, AND WE'LL TAKE SOME PHOTOS, AND THEN WE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU AND HOPEFULLY MAKE YOU FEEL VERY SPECIAL BECAUSE YOU ARE VERY SPECIAL. AND LIKE MR. MATTHEW SAID, WE HAVE SOME REALLY, REALLY OUTSTANDING KIDS THAT WE'RE GOING TO RECOGNIZE TONIGHT AND WE'RE GOING TO BEGIN WITH OUR CROSS COUNTRY. WE HAVE TWO MEMBERS OF OUR CROSS COUNTRY TEAM THAT QUALIFIED FOR THE STATE CROSS COUNTRY COMPETITION. A HIGH SCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER, SENIOR HENRY HENSEY AND HS NINE STUDENT MYA EASTERWOOD. BOTH BLAZED A TRAIL AT OUR RECENT STATE CROSS COUNTRY MEET HELD IN ROUND ROCK. NOT ONLY DID BOTH OF THESE RUNNERS QUALIFY FOR THE STATE MEET, BUT EACH HAD TOP FINISHES, WITH MYA PLACING 18TH AND HENRY PLACING 68TH AT STATE. THESE RUNNERS WENT THE DISTANCE THROUGHOUT THE CROSS COUNTRY FALL SEASON AND QUALIFIED FOR STATE AFTER SUCCESS AT THE REGIONAL AND DISTRICT MEETS. OUR VERY OWN VARSITY BOYS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM CLINCHED THEIR SECOND CONSECUTIVE DISTRICT SIX A TITLE THIS SEASON, WITH HENRY LEADING THE PACK AS THE SIX SIX, A BOYS DISTRICT CHAMPION OVER THE HALF OF THE SISD BOARD OF TRUSTEES. I WANT TO SHARE HOW PROUD I AM, HOW WE ALL ARE OF BOTH MYA HENRY, OUR CROSS COUNTRY AND OUR CROSS COUNTRY TEAMS AND THANK THEM FOR THEIR HARD WORK AND ALL OF THEIR SUCCESSES. WE EXTEND OUR HEARTFELT CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL OF THEM. OUR GRATITUDE ALSO GOES OUT TO COACH LANDON WREN, WHO COULDN'T BE HERE TONIGHT, BUT ALSO COACH SAMANTHA ROTH, WHO IS HERE WHO HELPED OUR TEAMS GO THE EXTRA MILE FOR THESE REMARKABLE ACHIEVEMENTS. AND NOW I WOULD ASK FOR MYA HENRY AND COACH ROTH, ALONG WITH OUR ATHLETIC DIRECTOR KIT POWELL, AS WELL AS OUR HS NINE PRINCIPAL, DR. CODY KOONTZ, TO PLEASE COME UP TO THE FRONT SO THAT WE CAN SHAKE YOUR HAND AND RECOGNIZE YOU AND TAKE SOME PHOTOS. LET'S GIVE THEM A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE. MOVING ON TO ART. OUR NEXT RECOGNITION IS THE VERY TALENTED ARTIST FROM RICHARD J. LEE ELEMENTARY, AHIRI NEELI. SHE PUT HER ARTISTIC TALENT ON DISPLAY, DRAWING HER WAY TO VICTORY IN THE TRINITY RIVER AUTHORITIES ART CONTEST. IN A COLORFUL TRIUMPH, AHIRI CLAIMED THE TOP SPOT IN HER GRADE LEVEL AND WAS THE OVERALL GRAND PRIZE WINNER OF THE TRINITY RIVER AUTHORITY'S 2023 ART CONTEST, A MASTERPIECE OF ACHIEVEMENT. THIS YEAR, THE TRINITY RIVER AUTHORITY HAD A RECORD BREAKING 1941 ENTRIES FROM NINE COUNTIES. WOW. THAT'S A LOT OF COMPETITION AND IT TRULY IS A TESTAMENT. EXCUSE ME. IT TRULY IS A TESTAMENT TO AHIRI BOUNDLESS CREATIVITY, HER HARD WORK, AND HER ARTISTIC ABILITY. AS A FIRST PLACE WINNER, SHE RECEIVED ART APRONS AND COLORED PENCILS ALONGSIDE A CERTIFICATE, GREETING CARDS AND A CUSTOMIZED CALENDAR ADORNED WITH HER SPLENDID ARTWORK. AS THE GRAND PRIZE WINNER, SHE ALSO RECEIVED AN AMAZON TABLET TO COMPLEMENT HER ALREADY IMPRESSIVE FIRST PLACE BOUNTY. THAT'S A LOT OF THINGS TO RECEIVE. AHIRI, WOULD YOU PLEASE COME FORWARD ALONG WITH YOUR AMAZING ART TEACHER, AUDREY ALLEN, AND YOUR EQUALLY AMAZING PRINCIPAL, SHANTELL CASTRINOS, AS WELL AS OUR DIRECTOR OF FINE [00:15:05] ARTS, GARY MILLER, SO THAT WE ALL CAN ACKNOWLEDGE EACH AND EVERY ONE OF YOU. LET'S GIVE AHIRI A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE. OUR NEXT RECOGNITION IS FOR THE COPPELL VARSITY BAND, AND THEY LITERALLY BLEW ME AWAY WHEN I WAS DOWN IN SAN ANTONIO. IT WAS AN AMAZING COMPETITION. IT WAS AN AMAZING SHOW. WE'VE HAD SOME INCREDIBLE SHOWS OVER THESE PAST FEW YEARS, BUT THIS ONE WAS ONE OF MY FAVORITES. IT WAS OUTSTANDING. UNDER THE INCREDIBLE LEADERSHIP OF BAND DIRECTOR KIM SHUTTLESWORTH, THE COPPELL VARSITY BAND HAD THEIR THIRD CONSECUTIVE TOP TEN STATE FINISH, PLACING EIGHTH IN THE STATE. AGAIN, I HAD THE PLEASURE OF BEING DOWN THERE TO TUNE IN WITH THEM ALL. THEY WERE AMAZING. I WAS VERY, VERY PROUD OF THEM. IT WAS A NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCE. THANK YOU TO OUR INCREDIBLE BAND. OUR BAND PROGRAM HAS BEEN INSTRUMENTAL IN HAVING SUCH A GREAT SUCCESS IN PERFORMANCES OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS. THE COPPELL BAND WON THE AREA COMPETITION FOR THE THIRD CONSECUTIVE YEAR, WHICH IS THE FIRST IN PROGRAM HISTORY AND IT IS THE CREDIT FOR THIS AND THE TOP TEN STATE ACHIEVEMENT GOES TO THE HARD WORKING BAND STUDENTS. THEY ARE AMAZING, THE INCREDIBLE STAFF LEADERSHIP AND OF COURSE OUR EQUALLY AMAZING PARENT VOLUNTEERS. THEY WERE HAULING THINGS HERE AND THERE DRIVING THE TRUCKS. OUR PARENTS WERE OUTSTANDING. EVERYBODY THAT PARTICIPATED HIT ALL THE HIGH NOTES AND I CANNOT THANK THEM ENOUGH. SO PLEASE COME TO THE FRONT. ACTUALLY, BEFORE WE BRING THEM UP, I'M GOING TO ASK MS. SHUTTLESWORTH, SHUTTLESWORTH TO PLEASE COME FORWARD TO HELP ME RECOGNIZE SOME OF OUR AMAZING STUDENTS THAT ARE HERE TONIGHT. SO GIVE A BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE TO KIM SHUTTLESWORTH. THANK YOU DR. HUNT, WOULD THE FOLLOWING BANDS, STUDENT LEADERS, JOIN UPFRONT WITH MR. MILLER IF HE'LL JOIN US AS WELL. AND DR. HUNT, SENIOR DRUM MAJOR LINDSAY WON, BAND PRESIDENT. MATA PERALTA, BAND VICE PRESIDENT, AKSHAT GOOCH, BAND VICE PRESIDENT [INAUDIBLE] AND TWELFTH GATE COLORGUARD CAPTAIN ADITI GOBLE. ONE LAST BIG ROUND OF APPLAUSE FOR MISS SHUTTLESWORTH AND OUR INCREDIBLE BAND. OUR FINAL RECOGNITION TONIGHT IS FOR THE MEMBERS OF THE COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL CHESS TEAM, WHO RECENTLY WON TWO TEAM TITLES IN AN INDIVIDUAL CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP AT THE RECENT STATE CHESS TOURNAMENT. UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF OUR TEACHER AND CREDIBLE ADVISOR RAY POOLE, MEMBERS OF THE CHESS TEAM WON THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP FOR GRADES 10TH THROUGH 11TH GRADE. THEY DID AN OUTSTANDING JOB. SHARVESH DEVIPRASANTH WAS THE OVERALL WINNER. I THINK HE TOOK 12TH AT THE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, IF I'M READING IT CORRECTLY. HE'S A 12TH GRADE CHAMPION. SO YOU'RE NUMBER ONE. AT LEAST WE THINK YOU ARE, SIR. SO CONGRATULATIONS TO CHAVEZ. I'M GOING TO ASK MR. RAY POOLE TO PLEASE COME FORWARD AND CONTINUE TO RECOGNIZE HIS TEAM. AND THEN WE'LL BRING THEM ALL TO THE FRONT FOR THEIR RECOGNITION. THANK YOU, MR. POOLE. OH, YOU GOT YOUR CHESS TIE ON. I JUST NOTICED THAT. VERY CLASSY. THANK YOU, DR. HUNT. I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE THE MEMBERS OF THE 10TH GRADE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM AND INVITE THEM TO PHOTOS WITH THE TRUSTEES AND DR. HUNT, AMAY BABEL AND LIAM LEE. [00:20:11] I WOULD NOW LIKE TO INVITE THE MEMBERS OF THE 11TH GRADE STATE CHAMPIONSHIP TEAM TO JOIN THE TRUSTEES AND DR. HUNT. ANIRUDDHA KUMAR, NAYAN GANDRA, WHO'S NOT HERE, AND LORENZO RODRIGUEZ. FINALLY, I WOULD LIKE TO ASK OUR OVERALL 12TH GRADE STATE CHAMPION, SHARVESH DEVIPRASANTH WHO HAS ACTUALLY, THIS IS HIS SECOND TIME TO BE THE STATE CHAMPION AND THE NATIONAL CHAMPION TO JOIN THE TRUSTEES IN FRONT OF THE DAIS WITH AND CONGRATULATIONS TO THE PHOTOS. BEFORE WE TRANSITION TO THE REGULAR MEETING, I WOULD NOW LIKE TO ASK THE FAMILY MEMBERS OF OUR HONOREES TO PLEASE STAND SO WE CAN RECOGNIZE YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT OF THE ACHIEVEMENTS. THIS CONCLUDES OUR AWARDS AUDIENCE. THOUGH YOU ARE MORE THAN WELCOME TO STAY, NOW IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU TO STEP OUT OF THE MEETING AS TRUSTEES AND I RETURN TO THE DAIS FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE MEETING. AGAIN, CONGRATULATIONS TO THESE OUTSTANDING HONOREES. THANK YOU. LET'S. ALL RIGHT, AS WE TRANSITION INTO THE REST OF THE MEETING, OUR NEXT UP IS OUR INVOCATION AND PLEDGE LED BY TRUSTEE MATTHEW. [V. INVOCATION AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE] PLEASE STAND AND FEEL FREE TO JOIN ME IN PRAYER OR OBSERVE A FEW MOMENTS OF SILENT REFLECTION. LORD, FIRST AND FOREMOST, I'D LIKE TO SAY THANK YOU FOR ALLOWING US TO GATHER HERE TONIGHT AS WE APPROACH THE HOLIDAY OF THANKSGIVING. PLEASE HELP US TO BE THANKFUL FOR ALL THAT WE HAVE AND APPRECIATE THE OPPORTUNITIES AND CHALLENGES BEFORE US. SECONDLY, PLEASE BRING COMFORT TO THOSE WHO ARE SUFFERING IN THIS COUNTRY AND ACROSS THE WORLD. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING CONFLICT. PLEASE BE WITH THEM AND HELP THEM TO FIND PEACE. ALSO, PLEASE COMFORT THOSE AMONG US WHO ARE STRUGGLING IN SILENCE. PLEASE HELP THEM KNOW THAT THERE ARE OTHERS WHO ARE STRUGGLING, AND GIVE THEM THE COURAGE TO REACH OUT FOR HELP AND THE COMFORT TO KNOW THAT SOMEONE WILL RESPOND. FINALLY, PLEASE HELP US ALL TO ASSUME THE BEST IN EACH OTHER AND TO TREAT EACH OTHER HOW WE BE TREATED. AMEN. AMEN. YOU TRUSTEE MATTHEW. AND THAT WILL TAKE US INTO OUR NEXT ITEM, WHICH IS DISCUSSION REPORT ITEMS, DR. [VI. DISCUSSION AND REPORT ITEMS - SUPERINTENDENT] HUNT. ALL RIGHT, THANK YOU PRESIDENT CAVINESS. WE HAVE THREE REPORTS FROM THE DISTRICT, THE FIRST WILL BE AN UPDATE TO OUR GOAL NUMBER TWO. ALSO ALIGNS WITH ONE OF OUR CBAS PILLARS WHERE WE LOOK AT OUR MENTAL HEALTH AND WELLNESS OF OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF. THE SECOND WILL BE OUR BOND UPDATE FROM THE 2023 BOND, AND THEN THE THIRD WILL BE A BUDGET PLANNING DISCUSSION FROM OUR CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER. [00:25:04] SO WITH THAT, I'LL TURN IT OVER TO DR. BROOKS, WHO WILL KICK US OFF FOR OUR REPORT NUMBER ONE. PERFECT. GOOD EVENING, PRESIDENT CAVINESS AND SCHOOL BOARD AND DR. HUNT, OF COURSE. AS YOU CAN SEE HERE, JUST ONCE AGAIN, THE REMINDER ABOUT THE SUPERINTENDENT PRIORITY GOALS AS WELL AS THE ALIGNMENT THAT WE HAVE WITHIN THAT. AND THEN AS WE'RE MOVING INTO OUR PRESENTATION THIS EVENING, I JUST WANT YOU TO REMEMBER AND REMIND YOU ABOUT SEVERAL OF OUR GOALS THAT WE HAVE WITHIN OUR DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN AND CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS. THEY TIE TO A COUPLE OF CRUCIAL AREAS WHEN WE'RE THINKING ABOUT PBIS, WHICH IS A LONG KIND OF ACRONYM THERE, POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS, AS WELL AS MTSS MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT. AND SO WHEN WE'RE THINKING ABOUT COUNSELING, WHEN WE'RE THINKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH, WHEN WE'RE THINKING ABOUT THE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING OF OUR KIDS, OUR STAFF MEMBERS, OUR FAMILIES, ALL OF THOSE PIECES REALLY TIE INTO HOLISTIC SYSTEMS THAT WE ARE TRYING TO APPROACH ONCE AGAIN, IN A SYSTEMIC WAY ACROSS THE DISTRICT. ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE.. BROOKS, KIND OF PAUSE FOR A SECOND, I FORGOT. NORMALLY WE WOULD HAVE OPEN FORUM, BUT I DON'T THINK ANYBODY SIGNED UP. SO I JUST WANTED TO MAKE THAT ACKNOWLEDGMENT SINCE IT WASN'T OFFICIALLY ON THE AGENDA. BUT IT ALWAYS IS OPEN FOR ANYBODY THAT WANTS TO COME AND SPEAK. PERFECT. SORRY. THAT IS TOTALLY FINE DR. HUNT. SO YOU GET OPEN FOR HIM TONIGHT. HEY, YOU KNOW, PRESIDENT CAVINESS, HERE WE GO, THERE WE ARE. THREE MINUTES. THREE MINUTES, THREE MINUTES, DONE. BUT ONE OF THE THINGS THAT WE ARE REALLY WORKING WHEN WE'RE THINKING ABOUT THOSE SYSTEMS THAT WE STARTED THIS YEAR, ESPECIALLY WAS WORKING WITH OUR CAMPUSES AND TALKING ABOUT PBIS. WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THE POSITIVE BEHAVIORAL SYSTEMS AND INTERVENTIONS THAT ARE IN PLACE, IT REALLY IS THAT WHOLE SYSTEM WITHIN A CAMPUS. WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT, WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT WHAT ARE THOSE EXPECTATIONS, HOW ARE WE REINFORCING THOSE EXPECTATIONS, BUT ALSO TO HOW ARE WE INTERVENING OR PROACTIVELY INTERVENING AT TIMES IN ORDER TO SUPPORT OUR LEARNERS? YOU KNOW, OF COURSE, THAT WE FOCUS ON OUR ACADEMICS. THAT'S A BIG PIECE WITHIN THE DISTRICT. BUT IF YOU DON'T HAVE THESE OTHER PARTS WORKING TOGETHER WITHIN THAT, YOU CAN'T HAVE ONE WITHOUT THE OTHER. YOU'VE HEARD MARY KENNINGTON PRESENT THAT AS WELL, WHEN SHE TALKS THROUGH THE LENS OF PROFESSIONAL LEARNING COMMUNITIES, AND ESPECIALLY THAT MTS. SO AT THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR, WE REALLY DID KIND OF A FOUNDATIONAL PIECE WITH OUR CAMPUSES TO DIG IN AND SAY, HEY, WHAT ARE WE SEEING RIGHT NOW? WHAT ARE SOME OF THE THINGS TOO, SINCE THE PANDEMIC THAT HAVE REALLY MAYBE AMPED UP A LITTLE BIT WHEN IT CAME TO BEHAVIORS OR DIFFERENT NEEDS THAT WE MAY HAVE FOR OUR LEARNERS ACROSS OUR CAMPUSES? SO WITH THAT FOUNDATIONAL, THERE CAME SOME TRAINING FOR OUR EDUCATORS AS WELL AS A LOT OF BRAINSTORMING. WHAT DO YOU CURRENTLY HAVE IN PLACE WITHIN YOUR CAMPUS, NOT ONLY WITHIN YOUR CLASSROOMS, BUT ALSO TOO IN THOSE COMMON AREAS? THINKING ABOUT THE CAFETERIA, THINKING ABOUT OUR HALLWAYS, MAKING SURE THAT WE'RE ALSO HAVING THAT ALIGNMENT ACROSS CAMPUSES. SO WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT TRANSITION FROM ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE TO NINTH GRADE AND THEN ALSO TO TO THE HIGH SCHOOL, YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT HOW WE'RE WORKING ON ALL THOSE PIECES TOGETHER. SO WE HAVE THAT. WE ALSO, TOO, HAVE REALLY BEEN WORKING WITH OUR PRINCIPALS AND ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS ON RESTORATIVE PRACTICES, ALONG WITH OUR COUNSELING TEAM. HOW ARE WE EMBEDDING THOSE, ALONG WITH OUR CHARACTER ED PROGRAMS THAT YOU'LL HEAR A LITTLE BIT MORE? SO FROM ANN LEHEW, OUR COORDINATOR OF COUNSELING AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING. SHE'S GOING TO HIT ON A COUPLE OF THOSE PROGRAMS THIS EVENING AS WELL, BUT WE BROUGHT IN SOME INDIVIDUALS TO REALLY SUPPORT THAT AND LAYER IN SOME TRAINING FOR OUR LEADERS ON THE CAMPUS TO TALK ABOUT HOW WE'RE EMBEDDING THOSE PRACTICES THROUGH OUR CLASS MEETINGS, THROUGH OUR CHARACTER ED IMPLEMENTATION THAT WE'RE DOING, AS WELL AS JUST THOSE COMMON EXPECTATIONS. WE ALSO HAVE BEEN FOCUSING ON LEARNING WALKS. SO YOU'RE GOING TO SEE A COUPLE OF SNAPSHOTS HERE ON THIS SLIDE, AS WELL AS THE NEXT SLIDE THAT OUR PRINCIPALS, ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS, OUR CURRICULUM TEAM, WALKING THE BUILDINGS AND LOOKING FOR THOSE COMMONALITIES. WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT IF I'M GOING INTO A CLASSROOM, WHAT ARE THE IMMEDIATE THINGS THAT I'M NOTICING WITHIN THAT CLASSROOM OR WITHIN THAT HALLWAY OR WITHIN THAT COMMON SPACE THAT YOU CAN SEE WE KNOW WHAT THOSE EXPECTATIONS ARE WHEN YOU HAVE TEACHERS THAT ARE USING CALLBACKS, WHEN YOU HAVE TEACHERS THAT ARE INTERVENING IN A WAY, IF SOMEONE DOES HAVE A BEHAVIOR, HOW ARE WE RESPONDING TO THAT BEHAVIOR? AND ALSO HAVING THAT CONSISTENCY, WHICH IS VERY, VERY IMPORTANT WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT WITHIN INSTRUCTION. SO HERE'S A COUPLE OF THINGS RIGHT HERE. THERE'S A HIGHLIGHT FOR NEW TECH RIGHT THERE. THEY HAVE THEIR NORMS AS A CAMPUS. THIS IS A RESPECT AGREEMENT I BELIEVE THIS ONE IS FROM CANYON RANCH ELEMENTARY WHERE THE LEARNERS COME TOGETHER AT THE START OF THE YEAR AND ACTUALLY FOCUS ON WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO REALLY BE IN OUR CLASSROOM AND HOW ARE WE TREATING ONE ANOTHER, BUT HOW ARE WE ALSO TREATING THAT LEARNING ENVIRONMENT? WHAT ARE THE THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING? HERE'S ANOTHER EXAMPLE HERE OF HALLWAY BEHAVIOR. THINGS TO REMEMBER AS YOU'RE GOING ALONG. VISUALS ARE VERY IMPORTANT WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT PBIS AND THE MTS STRUCTURES. ON THE NEXT SLIDE HERE. THINGS THAT SOMETIMES YOU DON'T REALLY THINK OH MY GOSH, HEY THAT'S AN INTERESTING LITTLE THING. WHY DO THEY HAVE THAT THINKING ABOUT VOICE LEVELS. IT MAKES THE DIFFERENCE. YOU HAVE TO TEACH OUR KIDS. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A DIFFERENT VOICE LEVEL, WHAT IS APPROPRIATE AT A CERTAIN TIME? WHAT ISN'T NECESSARILY AS APPROPRIATE, A DIFFERENT TIME? YOU'LL NOTICE THAT THE NEXT PICTURE THERE IS A CALMING AREA THAT'S ACTUALLY ONE OF OUR MUSIC CLASSROOMS HERE IN THE DISTRICT. [00:30:04] SO IF YOU HAVE A LEARNER WHO MAY BE STRUGGLING A LITTLE BIT TO GO ALONG WITH A LESSON, DO YOU HAVE A SPOT IN YOUR CLASSROOM THAT MAY JUST NEED A MOMENT? YOU KNOW WHAT? HEY, LET'S JUST SIT THERE FOR A SECOND. LET'S TAKE SOME DEEP BREATHS. HAVING THOSE VISUALS OF REMINDERS. NOT A TIME OUT PER SE, BECAUSE THAT'S KIND OF THE OLD SCHOOL WAY WITHIN THAT. HOW ARE WE REALLY MAKING IT A RESTORATIVE THING TO ALSO TEACH A STUDENT THAT SAYS, I NEED A BREAK RIGHT NOW, AND I CAN TELL THAT I NEED THAT, AND HERE'S WHAT I'M GOING TO DO WHEN I'M TAKING THAT BREAK FOR THAT BEHAVIOR. THE CELL PHONE HOLDERS, YOU NOTICE THAT WE ARE REALLY TRYING TO ALSO MAKE SURE THAT OUR LEARNERS ARE ENGAGED WITHIN THE LESSONS. WE KNOW THAT WHILE TECHNOLOGY CAN BE A WONDERFUL THING, IT CAN ALSO BE A DISTRACTION. HOW ARE WE MAKING SURE IN LIMITING THOSE DISTRACTIONS WITHIN LEARNING, SO THAT YOU'RE ALSO HAVING THAT FACE TO FACE OR EVEN STAYING ON TASK WITH WITH THE LESSONS THAT YOU HAVE GOING ON. YOU NOTICE AN EXAMPLE FROM CCE, RIGHT THERE. HALLWAY DISPLAYS OF STUDENT LEARNING IS CRUCIAL, AND IT'S NOT JUST AT THE ELEMENTARY. YOU'LL NOTICE ON THE BOTTOM RIGHT THERE, I THINK THE RIVER AT NINE FOR THAT PICTURE RIGHT THERE WITHIN THAT. BUT ALL OF THOSE THINGS, WHEN YOU'RE GOING DOWN THE HALLWAYS, STUDENTS ARE PROUD TO SEE THEIR WORK. THAT IS SOMETHING THAT REALLY KIND OF BRING THAT ALL TOGETHER. IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE FOR THE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT, NUMBER ONE, BECAUSE YOU'RE SEEING IT EVERY DAY, BUT ALSO TWO, YOU'RE HIGHLIGHTING THOSE THINGS THAT YOU'RE REALLY TRYING TO WORK ON WITHIN THE LEARNING ANCHOR CHARTS. ONCE AGAIN, JUST A REMINDERS. AND THEN ALSO TO ORGANIZATION. SOMETIMES YOU DON'T THINK AND REALIZE HOW IMPORTANT THAT IS IN ALL OF OUR CLASSROOMS. SO DO YOU HAVE ALL THE SUPPLIES THAT YOU NEED? ARE THEY READILY AVAILABLE? DO WE HAVE THAT EFFICIENCY WITHIN THAT SYSTEM TO MAKE SURE THAT ALL THE STUDENTS KNOW THAT, SO THAT YOU'RE NOT CONSTANTLY, OKAY, WHERE AM I GOING TO FIND A PENCIL? WHERE'S MY IPAD? WHAT AM I DOING OVER HERE? REALLY KIND OF HAVING THAT SET UP IN A WAY. SO THOSE ARE SOME KIND OF THINGS THAT WE VISITED FROM THE START, AND WE'RE CONTINUING TO GO ON AND VISIT THOSE THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. A COUPLE OF OTHER THINGS THAT WE'VE TALKED ABOUT BEFORE, BUT I ALWAYS LIKE TO JUST KIND OF REMIND Y'ALL AS WELL, WHEN WE'RE THINKING ABOUT MULTI-TIERED SYSTEMS OF SUPPORT, HOW ARE WE PROVIDING THAT TRAINING? BUT HOW ARE WE PROVIDING THAT RESOURCE? SO AN EDUCATOR, IF THEY'RE GOING ALONG AND LET'S SAY THAT THEY HAVE A STUDENT THAT MAY BE STRUGGLING WITH SOME PARTICULAR BEHAVIORS, HOW HAVE WE MADE THAT READILY AVAILABLE SO THAT THAT WAY THEY HAVE ACCESS TO SEE HERE ARE SOME IDEAS. HERE ARE SOME STRATEGIES. THIS IS HOW YOU DOCUMENT ALL THOSE THINGS THAT GO INTO PLAY. WE HAVE WONDERFUL POSITIONS ACROSS THE DISTRICT WITH OUR COUNSELING SUPPORT, WITH OUR BEHAVIOR SPECIALISTS TO BE ABLE TO PUSH IN AND PROVIDE THAT. BUT REALLY TO AN EDUCATOR NEEDS TO HAVE KIND OF ALL OF THOSE LITTLE PIECES WITHIN THEIR TOOLBOX TO ENSURE THAT THEY'RE ABLE TO DO EVERYTHING THAT THEY CAN IN THE CLASSROOM. BUT IT IS ALSO OUR RESPONSIBILITY TO MAKE SURE THAT WE PROVIDED THOSE RESOURCES TO THE TEACHERS. SO THAT'S KIND OF A SCREENSHOT THERE OF, ONCE AGAIN, MARY KENNINGTON HAD SHARED THAT OF THE MTS FRAMEWORK. SO IF YOU GO INTO THAT BULB COLLECTION, ALL OF THOSE PIECES YOU CAN DRILL DOWN TO BE ABLE TO SEE THE SPECIFICS WITHIN THAT. AND THEN OUR PANORAMA STUDENT SUCCESS PLATFORM, THIS ALSO IS A PART OF THAT TIES IN OUR SURVEYS, AS WELL AS THE DATA THAT WE'RE COLLECTING, OUR DOCUMENTATION FOR PROGRESS MONITORING ALL OF THESE RESOURCES. I CLICKED ON A SCREENSHOT THERE OF CLIMATE. SO WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT HOW ARE YOU CREATING THE CLIMATE IN YOUR CLASSROOM THAT IS REALLY MAKING IT INVITING, THAT YOUR KIDS WANT TO BE ENGAGED, THAT THEY'RE EXCITED ABOUT COMING TO YOUR CLASSROOM EVERY DAY? THERE ARE OVER. LET'S SEE HERE, THERE ARE OVER 106 IDEAS THAT HAVE BEEN VETTED WITH THIS PARTICULAR PLATFORM, THAT ARE RESEARCH BASED ACTIVITIES FOR THEN TEACHERS TO BE ABLE TO CLICK ON AND SAY, HERE'S A GREAT ACTIVITY THAT I COULD TRY OR USE WITHIN THE CLASSROOM. BUT ONCE AGAIN, PROVIDING THOSE RESOURCES, PROVIDING THE SUPPORT TO ENSURE THAT WE HAVE THAT COMMON ALIGNMENT, BUT ALSO TOO, THAT TEACHERS AREN'T KIND OF SCRAMBLING TO THINK OF ANOTHER IDEA, BECAUSE SOMETIMES IT CAN BE A LITTLE OVERWHELMING TRYING TO BALANCE THE ACADEMICS WITH THE OTHER PIECE. AND I'M GOING TO INVITE ANN LEHEW UP HERE, A COORDINATOR ONCE AGAIN, OF COUNSELING AND SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING, AND SHE'S GOING TO TALK ABOUT SOME OF OUR PROGRAM SUPPORTS AND SOME OF THE THINGS HAPPENING THIS SCHOOL YEAR. THANK YOU. DR. BROOKS. BOARD AND DR. HUNT, THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO BE HERE WITH YOU GUYS TONIGHT. THIS IS ALWAYS ONE OF MY MOST FAVORITE THINGS TO DO IS TO TALK ABOUT THE AMAZING COUNSELOR TEAM THAT COPPELL HAS. AND IF DR. BROOKS DOESN'T MIND, SHE DOESN'T KNOW I'M GOING TO DO THIS. I'M GOING TO GO BACK A SLIDE BECAUSE I JUST WANT TO HIGHLIGHT TWO THINGS. MTSS AND PBIS PROVIDE A REALLY TRAUMA INFORMED CLASSROOM FOR OUR LEARNERS WHO ARE EXPERIENCING TRAUMA OF ANY FORM. PREDICTABILITY IS A HUGE SAFETY FACTOR FOR THEM. KNOWING THE RULES OF THE GAME BEFORE YOU GET IN THE GAME. SO I LOVE THOSE TWO THINGS OF PBIS. AND THEN IF YOU'LL NOTICE ON THE FAR IN THAT PANORAMA PLAYBOOK, CHARACTER STRONG IS FEATURED. AND THAT IS OUR SECONDARY CURRICULUM. SO. WE USE OUR PANORAMA SURVEYS. HOW OUR COUNSELING TEAM USES THAT IS, WE LOOK AT THE DATA FOR ATTENDANCE, GRADES, DISCIPLINE TO SEE WHAT PATTERNS WE CAN FIND IN OUR LEARNERS THAT MIGHT NEED SOME EXTRA [00:35:04] SUPPORT. AND THEN THEY DO USE THE PANORAMA PLAYBOOK QUITE A BIT TO PROVIDE THOSE SUPPORTS TO THE LEARNERS. WE ARE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FALL. WE DO A SUICIDE PREVENTION CURRICULUM. IT'S CALLED SIGNS OF SUICIDE OR SOS, AND WE DO THAT EVERY YEAR, GRADES SIX THROUGH 12. HOWEVER, AT GRADES SEVEN, NINE AND 11, WE ALSO DO A SCREENER WITH THOSE LEARNERS JUST TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE CATCHING ANYBODY WHO MAYBE GOT MISSED OR HAS NOT BEEN SEEN BY THE COUNSELING TEAM TO PROVIDE THEM EXTRA SUPPORT. WE HAVE. WE'RE SO THANKFUL FOR THE SHACK COMMITTEE LAST YEAR. WE'VE GOT OUR SB9 CURRICULUM CHOSEN AND THIS YEAR IN THE REGISTRATION PACKET. SO LAST YEAR, IF YOU'LL REMEMBER IT WAS A LITTLE WONKY. WE HAD TO SEND OUT GOOGLE FORMS AND THINGS LIKE THAT. BUT AS PART OF THE REGISTRATION PACKET PARENTS WERE GIVEN THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE SB9 LESSONS. SO CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION, HUMAN TRAFFICKING PREVENTION, DATING VIOLENCE PREVENTION, DRUG PREVENTION WAS ALL PROVIDED IN THE REGISTRATION PACKET AND PARENTS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO OPT IN AND OUT AT THAT TIME. WE ARE VERY EXCITED. SO T CHAT IS A PARTNERSHIP THAT WE HAVE WITH CHILDREN'S HOSPITAL, AND THEY PROVIDE FREE COUNSELING SERVICES FOR LEARNERS WHOSE FAMILIES MAYBE THEY DON'T HAVE INSURANCE AND CAN'T AFFORD IT. I HAVE A LEARNER TODAY THAT I WAS WORKING WITH A CAMPUS. MOM AND DAD OWNED THEIR OWN COMPANY AND DO A LOT OF TRAVELING, AND SO THEY JUST DON'T HAVE THE ABILITY TO TAKE THE LEARNER TO A THERAPY SESSION. SO IT PROVIDES KIND OF THAT GAP SERVICE. LAST YEAR IT WAS GRADES SIX THROUGH 12. THE LEARNERS DO IT ON CAMPUS UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF A CHILDREN'S MEDICAL CENTER. AND OUR COUNSELING STAFF, THEY PARTNER TOGETHER INCREDIBLY, BUT THEY'VE EXPANDED IT TO K THROUGH 12. NOW THEY UNDERSTAND THAT, YOU KNOW, SOME FIRST GRADERS CAN HANDLE THIS. SOME EIGHTH GRADERS CAN'T. SO IT'S REALLY JUST LEARNER DEPENDENT ON HOW WE GET THE SERVICES. AND WE WERE VERY EXCITED. THIS YEAR WE HAVE A NEW SPECIAL EDUCATION COUNSELOR TO REALLY DO SOME INTENSIVE WORK WITH THOSE LEARNERS WHO ARE SERVED BY THE SPECIAL EDUCATION PROGRAM TO PROVIDE THE SUPPORTS THEY NEED. SO HERE ARE JUST A COUPLE OF PICTURES. I'VE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES WHILE THEY'RE TEACHING THE SEL CURRICULUM. ON YOUR LEFT IS FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO KNOW THE FANTASTIC PAM ERICKSON FROM EAST. SHE IS TEACHING A SECOND STEP LESSON TO OUR LEARNERS. AND ON THE RIGHT. OH MY GOODNESS, I CAN'T. MY THE CAMPUS IS ESCAPING ME NOW. I THINK THAT MAY HAVE BEEN TCE AND THEY WERE DOING A SECOND STEP LESSON WITH SOME OF THEIR YOUNGER LEARNERS. SO THE TEACHERS REALLY HAVE EMBRACED THOSE PROGRAMS AND ARE WORKING AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL LEVEL. THEY'RE EMBEDDED INTO THEIR ADVISORY PERIOD AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL. THEY'RE EMBEDDED TO MORNING MEETINGS AND HIGH SCHOOLS WORKING ON EMBEDDING THEM. NOW THAT THAT THIRD PERIOD HAS THOSE EXTRA MINUTES, THEY'RE WORKING ON EMBEDDING IT THERE. SO IT'S REALLY EXCITING TO SEE ALL THOSE THINGS HAPPENING. AND A FREQUENT THING WE GET FROM THE PANORAMA SURVEY IS STAFF SUPPORT. LIKE THEY'RE OVER, YOU KNOW, OVER EVERYTHING. SO WHILE I KNOW A TON OF CAMPUSES ARE DOING THINGS, I'M JUST TAKING A MOMENT TO HIGHLIGHT THE CAMPUS COUNSELING TEAM AT LEE ELEMENTARY. THEY JUST IN THE LAST TWO WEEKS HAD A STAFF WELLNESS SUPPORT DAY, SO STAFF HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO COME INTO THE ROOM. YOU CAN SEE THAT FAR RIGHT PICTURE. THEY LED THEM THROUGH A BREATHING EXERCISE JUST TO KIND OF CALM AND RESET THEM IN THE MIDDLE PICTURE. THOSE ARE ACTUALLY MODELING CLAY WITH ESSENTIAL OILS THAT YOU CAN JUST KIND OF PLAY WITH THE PUTTY AND GET THE ESSENTIAL OILS. AND THEN THEY OFFERED HEALTHY WATER, HEALTHY SNACKS. SO IT WAS REALLY WE'RE VERY BLESSED TO HAVE TWO COUNSELORS AT LEE ELEMENTARY. IT WAS REALLY A TEAM EFFORT THAT THEY INITIATED. I WAS REALLY PROUD OF. WE ARE ALSO DOING A GREAT JOB, I THINK, ON CONTINUING OUR PROFESSIONAL LEARNING. OVER HALF THE COUNSELING TEAM WAS AT THE LONE STAR STATE SCHOOL COUNSELOR ASSOCIATION. A LOT OF WORDS THERE. LASKAR IN FRISCO JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO. SO THERE'S A PICTURE OF US THERE CONTINUING OUR LEARNING. WE JUST RECENTLY HAD SOME COUNSELORS GO TO THE FORT WORTH ADOLESCENT SYMPOSIUM. SO THAT'S PUT ON BY MENTAL HEALTH OF AMERICA. AND THERE'LL BE ANOTHER SYMPOSIUM IN DALLAS IN THE SPRING THAT I'M HOPEFUL WE'LL GET SOME PEOPLE AT. WE, THE TEXAS SCHOOL SAFETY CENTER ALWAYS HAS FANTASTIC ONLINE WEBINAR TRAINING. I KNOW WE'VE GOT SEVERAL SIGNED UP FOR TRAUMA INFORMED CARE. THE TEXAS SCHOOL CENTER HAS TWO GREAT SESSIONS ONE SPECIFIC TO ELEMENTARY, ONE SPECIFIC TO SECONDARY, AND I KNOW SOME SECONDARY COUNSELORS HAVE SIGNED UP FOR THAT. WE HAVE HAD PEOPLE GO TO THE MOMENTOUS INSTITUTE, WHICH IS JUST THE HUB OF ACL IN DALLAS. WE ARE, AND I HOPE YOU'LL FORGIVE MY CASUAL OUTFIT TODAY, BUT WE'RE GOING TO BE TALKING ABOUT HOPE SQUAD. START WITH HELLO, WHICH IS AN INITIATIVE PUT ON BY THE SANDY HOOK FOUNDATION. [00:40:05] AND IN SEPTEMBER THEY REALLY ARE ENCOURAGING CONNECTION AND ENCOURAGING LEARNERS TO REACH OUT TO EACH OTHER, TO MAYBE A LEARNER WHO'S NOT HAD A CONNECTION IN THE BUILDING TO CREATE THAT FOR THEM. AND THEN YOU GUYS KNOW RED RIBBON WEEK WAS JUST A FEW WEEKS AGO. SO I'M EXCITED TO SEE SIDEKICK HERE BECAUSE THEY JUST DID A FANTASTIC ARTICLE, WHICH YOU CAN CLICK ON AND READ MORE ABOUT ABOUT HOPE SQUAD. SO HOPE SQUAD IS THE BRAINCHILD OF DR. GREG HUDNALL OUT OF UTAH. UNFORTUNATELY THE PARTICULAR HE'S A FORMER SUPERINTENDENT, FORMER PRINCIPAL AND HIS PARTICULAR SCHOOL DISTRICT EXPERIENCED A RASH OF SUICIDES ABOUT 15 YEARS AGO. AND SO HE DECIDED TO TAKE A DEEP DIVE INTO WHAT ELSE CAN WE DO? AND HE FOUND THAT, YOU KNOW, WE HAVE THE PARENT EDUCATION PROGRAMS, WE HAVE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAMS AND ALL THESE GREAT THINGS. BUT THE MISSING PIECE HE FOUND WAS THE PEER TO PEER SUPPORT. SO HOPE SQUAD HAS AT NINE AND THEY ARE AT NEW TECH THIS YEAR AND WE'RE HOPING TO EXPAND. THEY HAVE A K 12 PROGRAM. SO WE'RE HOPING TO GO BOTH WAYS WITH THIS. THEY JUST HAD A CONFERENCE IN DALLAS SPONSORED BY THE GRANT HALLIBURTON FOUNDATION. AND SOME GENEROUS DONOR TO GRANT. HALLIBURTON PAID FOR ALL OF OUR KIDDOS TO GO, WHICH WAS AMAZING. AND WHAT THEY LEARN IS THEY'RE NOT COUNSELORS, THEY'RE NOT DOING THERAPY, THEY'RE NOT DOING ANYTHING LIKE THAT, BUT THEY'RE LEARNING THE SIGNS OF SOMEBODY MIGHT BE STRUGGLING BECAUSE WE ALL KNOW THE KIDS ARE TALKING TO EACH OTHER, AND SOMETIMES THEY DON'T TALK TO THE GROWNUPS. AND SO THEY LEARN TO LOOK FOR THOSE SIGNS AND HOW TO CONNECT THEM WITH THE ADULTS THAT THEY NEED TO GET THOSE KIDS THE HELP THEY NEED. SO IT'S REALLY AN EXCITING PROGRAM. I'M VERY I'M LOOKING FORWARD TO WATCHING IT EXPAND ACROSS COPPELL, BECAUSE I THINK THAT'S A PIECE THAT WE'VE BEEN MISSING. SO WITH THAT, ARE THERE ANY QUESTIONS YOU GUYS HAVE FOR ME? ANYTHING ANY MORE INFORMATION? MR. HILL, WHEN YOU LOOK AT ALL OF THE PIECES THAT YOU'VE IDENTIFIED HERE, CAN YOU TALK A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE LAYERS THAT ARE IN PLACE THAT ARE COVERING THE ENTIRE DISTRICT, AND THEN THOSE PIECES THAT COVER SPECIFIC PARTS OF THE DISTRICT, AND THEN WHAT ARE THE MISSING PIECES THAT YOU WOULD BE LOOKING FOR TO ADD TO THIS PLATFORM? OH MY GOODNESS. SO THE PIECES THAT WE HAVE IN PLACE, THE THE CURRICULUM THE DISTRICT HAS PROVIDED, I KNOW NOT EVERY DISTRICT IN THIS AREA IS BLESSED ENOUGH TO HAVE THAT. SO I'M VERY, VERY THANKFUL FOR THE BOARD'S SUPPORT OF THOSE THINGS BECAUSE, AS DR. BROOKS MENTIONED, IF YOU DON'T HAVE THOSE BEHAVIORAL FOUNDATIONS, THOSE SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING FOUNDATIONS, YOU'RE NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO LEARN. SO THAT IS AMAZING. THE DISTRICT SUPPORT OF HOPE SQUAD. THE DISTRICT SUPPORT OF THE COUNSELORS ARE HAVING THE TIME TO GO GET THAT PROFESSIONAL LEARNING. I KNOW THAT'S HARD ON CAMPUS WHEN A COUNSELOR LEAVES FOR THE DAY, BUT WE GAIN SO MUCH BY LEARNING THE NEW THINGS THAT ARE HAPPENING. DR. BROOKS, DO YOU WANT TO ADD ANYTHING? YES, OF COURSE YOU DO. YES. HERE WE ARE. GIVE ME A MICROPHONE. YEAH. THERE YOU GO. I THINK THAT AS WE'RE BUILDING ON THESE FOUNDATIONS, IT'S IMPORTANT. ONCE AGAIN, WHEN YOU'RE IMPLEMENTING ANYTHING, YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE HAVING MEASUREMENTS ALONG THE WAY. AND YOU ALSO NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU'RE HAVING FULL IMPLEMENTATION OF SOMETHING. WE STARTED LAST YEAR WITH THE CHARACTER EDITOR PROGRAMS. WE GOT APPROVAL ALL THROUGH. ALL THE THINGS STARTED ROLLING THOSE OUT. BUT IT IS ESSENTIAL THAT AS YOU'RE DOING IT IN A CONTINUOUS WAY, THAT YOU'RE ALSO SEEING WHAT GROWTH OR IMPROVEMENT DID WE MAKE? ARE WE SEEING THAT CONSISTENCY? IT GOES INTO THE BEHAVIOR AND ACADEMICS HOW ALL THOSE THINGS COME INTO PLAY. YOU HAVE TO LOOK AT HOW YOU'RE MEASURING SOMETHING TO SEE THE IMPACT, AND YOU ALSO HAVE TO GET FEEDBACK ALONG THE WAY. I THINK THAT THAT'S SOMETHING TOO, THAT JUST AS WE'RE THINKING ABOUT, OKAY, FROM ELEMENTARY TO MIDDLE TO HIGH SCHOOL, BECAUSE ALSO TO SOME OF THE DIFFERENT PROGRAMS HAVE DIFFERENT IMPACTS WITHIN THAT. SO I LOVE THAT WE'VE STARTED THE HOPE SQUAD SPECIFICALLY. YOU KNOW, WE HAVE IT ACTUALLY AS COURSES. IT'S NOT JUST AN AFTER SCHOOL CLUB. IT'S NOT SOMETHING BECAUSE THAT ALSO TOO IS ESSENTIAL. HOW ARE YOU REALLY GOING TO HAVE SOMETHING THAT HAS MEANING TO MAKE SURE THAT YOUR KIDS THAT ARE INVOLVED ARE GETTING THE FULL PICTURE OF THAT? AND IT'S NOT JUST ANOTHER THING NECESSARILY THAT THEY'RE DOING. SO THAT COMMITMENT, I THINK IS HUGE. AND THE TEACHERS THAT ARE SUPPORTING THAT AT NEW TECH AND NINE ARE JUST INCREDIBLE, AND THEY HAVE BEEN BLOWN AWAY WITH THE KIDS WITHIN THAT. AND SO I THINK THAT AS WE'RE BUILDING ON THOSE THINGS AND THEN THEY'RE GETTING TO SHARE THEIR STORY AND SEE THE IMPACT, THE TRICKLE DOWN EFFECT AND THE TRICKLE UP EFFECT, WHEN YOU'RE THINKING JUST OF A PROGRAM, PROGRAM LIKE HOPE SQUAD IS JUST SO POWERFUL. AND I THINK THAT THAT'S JUST IMPORTANT, THOUGH, THAT WE'RE ALSO GIVING TIME WHEN WE'RE IMPLEMENTING THINGS AND WE'RE NOT JUST TRYING TO FIND, OH, WELL, HERE'S A REALLY COOL KIND OF SHINY THING WITHIN THAT, BECAUSE WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH AND YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT BEHAVIORS AND YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT SUPPORT, IT TAKES TIME TO ENSURE THAT THOSE THINGS ARE PUT INTO PLACE AND ALSO TO HAVING THOSE CONVERSATIONS ABOUT WHAT'S WORKING AND WHAT ISN'T. SAME THING FOR OUR STAFF, MENTAL HEALTH, ALL THOSE DIFFERENT THINGS WITHIN THERE. [00:45:02] HOW ARE WE LISTENING TO WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING, BUT ALSO TO HOW ARE YOU DOING SOME GIVE AND TAKE WITHIN THAT AS WELL. THANK YOU. COUPLE. THANKS. SO FIRST OF ALL, I AM SITTING HERE WITH EXCLAMATION MARKS. YAY! THAT WE'RE PROVIDING STAFF SUPPORT. I KNOW THAT IS A CONCERN. I MEAN, WE'VE SAID OVER AND OVER AGAIN, STAFF IS A PRIORITY FOR US. SO YAY TO THAT. AND I'M REALLY HAPPY ABOUT THE SIGNS OF SUICIDE THAT WE'RE FIGURING OUT MULTIPLE TIMES TO TOUCH A STUDENT BECAUSE LIFE CHANGES. SO KUDOS TO YOU GUYS ON BOTH OF THOSE. I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS ON THE OPT IN OPT OUT RATIO. WHEN EVERYBODY WAS DOING THEIR ENROLLMENT PAPERWORK WITH US, PROVIDING INFORMATION UP FRONT ABOUT THOSE PROGRAMS, WHAT WHAT OPT IN OR WHAT OPT OUT RATE DID WE HAVE? THAT IS INFORMATION I'M HAPPY TO GET FOR YOU. THAT WOULD BE GREAT. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHAT THE RESPONSE WAS OF OUR COMMUNITY AND OF OUR PARENTS LAST YEAR VERSUS THIS YEAR. THAT WOULD BE GREAT. AND THEN THE OTHER QUESTION THAT I HAD IS I LOVE THE RESOURCES AND THE CURRICULUM. YES. MY QUESTION IS HOW EASY IS IT FOR STAFF TO NAVIGATE? HOW INTERCONNECTED ARE THE DIFFERENT OR NOT CONNECTED? ARE THE RESOURCES THAT WE'RE PROVIDING REALLY LIKE HOW SIMPLE ARE WE MAKING THIS FOR STAFF TO IMPLEMENT? I THINK IS THE ESSENCE OF MY QUESTION. YES. SO THAT IS ALSO A PRIORITY FOR ME AS WELL BECAUSE I KNOW NOT EVERY STAFF MEMBER. SO STAFF MEMBER. SO IF YOU ARE AP BIOLOGY, YOU MIGHT NOT HAVE HAD A WHOLE LOT OF EXPERIENCE IN THIS AREA. SO THAT'S BEEN A KEY THING WE LOOKED FOR WHEN WE WERE EVALUATING CURRICULUMS. THE FEEDBACK I'M GETTING FROM THE STAFF ON SECOND STEP IS THEY ADORE IT BECAUSE IT IS SO EASY TO IMPLEMENT AND THE SAME FOR CHARACTER STRONG. YOU KNOW, SOMETIMES SECONDARY TEACHERS CAN BE A LITTLE LIKE NERVOUS ABOUT IT. BUT I WAS AT A VICTORY PLACE THE OTHER DAY WATCHING A LOVELY STAFF MEMBER TEACH IT SEAMLESSLY INTO HER CURRICULUM AND REALLY EMBED THOSE THINGS. SO AS THEY'RE KIND OF THERE'S A LITTLE TREPIDATION, BUT AS WE'RE DIGGING IN, THEY ARE REALLY PLEASED WITH HOW EASY IT IS TO USE AND NAVIGATE. AND THEN I ALSO LOVE BECAUSE THOSE TWO PROGRAMS ARE RESEARCH BASED. THEY'RE NOT JUST JOE'S PROGRAM OR WHOEVER. THEY ARE TIED INTO PANORAMA. AND SO LIKE A TEACHER IS GOING TO SEE THAT INFORMATION. AND BOTH OF CHARACTER STRONG AND SECOND STEP ARE PROVIDING RESOURCES ALL THE TIME. CHARACTER STRONG SENDS OUT A WEEKLY ABOUT THREE MINUTE VIDEO ON HOW TO CREATE CONNECTION WITH YOUR KIDDOS. HERE'S A NEW IDEA. HERE'S A NEW THING. SECOND STEP CONSTANTLY HAS WEBINARS, SO EVEN IF YOU CAN'T MAKE THE WEBINAR, YOU CAN SIGN UP AND GET THE VIDEO AFTER TO TO JUST SUPPORT THE LEARNERS IN THAT WAY. THANK YOU. I'LL ADD SOMETHING TOO, WHILE DR. BROOKES IS COMING TO THE MIC. AS FAR AS THE OPT IN OPT OUT, YOU KNOW WE'RE ALL ABOUT PARENT CHOICE AND GIVING PARENTS OUR THE CHANCE TO CHOOSE WHAT THEY WANT TO DO. ANECDOTALLY, WE'LL GET MORE AS AS ANN HAS ALREADY SAID. BUT A FEW OF THE PARENTS THAT I TALKED TO THAT MIGHT HAVE SAID NO LAST YEAR JUST BECAUSE THEY HAD STUFF GOING ON IN THEIR PERSONAL LIFE, THEY DIDN'T REALLY WANT TO DO THAT, OR MAYBE THEY JUST DIDN'T SUPPORT IT. WHATEVER THEIR DECISION WAS, SOME HAVE DECIDED, YOU KNOW, I WANT THEM TO GO AHEAD AND DO THAT THIS YEAR. THEY'RE A LITTLE BIT OLDER. AND SO JUST AGAIN, HAVING THE CHOICE I THINK IS IMPORTANT TO PARENTS. BUT EVEN IF PARENTS ARE CHOOSING NOT TO HAVE THEIR STUDENTS PARTICIPATE, WE WANT THEIR CHILDREN TO STILL THE PARENTS AND KIDS TO STILL HAVE RESOURCES BECAUSE THEY MAY FIND THEMSELVES DOWN THE ROAD LATER TO SAY, OH, THIS I'M IN A TERRITORY I DON'T KNOW HOW TO HANDLE, OR THERE'S THINGS GOING ON WITH THE TRAUMA PIECE, MAYBE A DEATH IN THE FAMILY OR A DIVORCE OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT. AND SO AGAIN, OUR COUNSELORS ARE GREAT RESOURCES TO HELP OUR ADMINISTRATORS, OUR STAFF MEMBERS DO SO MUCH TO, YOU KNOW, AGAIN, WE WANT TO GIVE OUR PARENTS OUR CHOICES AND GIVE THEM A LOT OF THAT POWER, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO CONTINUE TO PARTNER WITH THEM IN THIS TOPIC, TOO. I'M SORRY. NO YOU'RE FINE. JUST ONE MORE THING TO ADD IS, AS WE'RE CONTINUING TO BUILD ONCE AGAIN ON THE CHARACTER EDITOR PROGRAM, WHAT EDUCATORS ARE FINDING IS YOU HAVE MORE OPPORTUNITIES TO EMBED SPECIFIC LESSONS INTO THE CURRICULUM. SO THAT WOULD BE THE ULTIMATE HOPE TO WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT IS HOW DO YOU HAVE A CHARACTER EDITOR LESSON THAT YOU'RE THEN SAYING, HOW AM I TYING THIS POSSIBLY TO A WRITING ASSIGNMENT THAT OUR LEARNERS ARE DOING? OR HERE IS A LITERATURE CONNECTION THAT WE'RE KIND OF TYING IN. SOCIAL STUDIES IS A GREAT AREA, WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT HISTORY AND YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT HOW ARE WE RELATING TO OTHERS AND THE DIFFERENT THINGS THAT ARE THERE. SO I THINK IT'S KIND OF MAKING PEOPLE THINK A LITTLE BIT MORE SO TO ABOUT THE CURRICULUM THAT THEY'RE TEACHING AND HOW THEY CAN ALSO TIE THOSE PIECES IN. JUST WANTED TO ADD THAT. AGREED. AND I'LL JUST JUMP IN TOO, BECAUSE I KNOW GOING THROUGH THE REGISTRATION PROCESS THIS YEAR THAT THE OPT IN PIECE WAS WAY BETTER, I THINK. MS.. LEHEW YOU SAID IT WAS WONKY LAST YEAR AND I AGREE TOO, AND KIND OF GOT LOST IN SOME OF THE EMAILS. BUT, YOU KNOW, IT WAS VERY CLEAR IN THE DETAIL OF INFORMATION OF WHAT IT WAS. I MEAN, IT CERTAINLY WHEN WE TALK ABOUT PARENTS BEING IN CONTROL, YOU KNOW, THIS IS ONE WAY THAT WE'RE KEEPING PARENTS IN CONTROL OF SOME OF THE LESSONS. [00:50:02] SO THANK YOU. VERY MUCH SO BUT AGAIN, I DON'T WANT PARENTS TO FEEL LIKE THEY'RE ON THEIR OWN EITHER, BECAUSE IT IS TOUGH TO BE A PARENT TODAY REGARDLESS OF. YOUR EXPERIENCES AND AND WHATEVER GRADE LEVEL YOUR CHILDREN MIGHT BE IN. AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT OUR PARENTS KNOW WE HAVE RESOURCES TO HELP THEM TOO, IF THEY NEED IT. ABSOLUTELY. I DID HAVE ONE QUICK QUESTION, THOUGH. DR. BROOKS. YOU HAD MENTIONED THE BATTING ON LIKE, THE LESS THE LESSONS, THE CLASSROOM LESSONS, LIKE THROUGH THE PANORAMA, COULD YOU JUST SPEAK TO THAT PROCESS SO THAT, WE'RE KIND OF. . YEAH, I THINK I THINK ONE OF THE THINGS IS WHENEVER YOU'RE PURCHASING A PARTICULAR PRODUCT OR YOU'RE LOOKING AT THINGS, YOU NEED TO MAKE SURE THAT THEY HAVE RESEARCH BACKED. IT'S KIND OF LIKE THINKING ABOUT RESEARCH BASED ACTIVITIES THAT WOULD BE THERE WITHIN THAT. WE ALSO TO HAVE CONTROL, TO BE ABLE TO SEE WHEN WE'RE PULLING THAT UP FROM A DISTRICT PERSPECTIVE, IF IT'S SOMETHING THAT WE WOULD CHOOSE OR THERE'S SOMETHING THAT WE WOULDN'T NECESSARILY WANT TO HAVE IN THERE, WHICH IS A GREAT THING I THINK ABOUT, YOU KNOW, BEING ABLE TO WORK WITH A COMPANY THAT ALSO CAN ALLOW THAT FLEXIBILITY WITHIN THERE IS CRUCIAL JUST THINKING ABOUT OUR DISTRICT AND THE SPECIFIC NEEDS THAT WE HAVE. THANK YOU. I JUST KNOW THAT'S BEEN A CONCERN ONGOING. SO THANK YOU FOR SPEAKING ON THAT. ANYBODY ELSE? YEP. TRUSTEE WALKER YEAH, I HAVE A COMMENT AND A QUESTION. AND MY FIRST IS THE WORDS THAT POPPED OUT TO ME CONSISTENCY, PREDICTABILITY, INTENTIONALITY. I MEAN, WOW, WE'RE NOT JUST SAYING THIS BROAD UMBRELLA OF SEL. THESE ARE VERY SPECIFIC, PRAGMATIC AND TANGIBLE WAYS TO HANDLE THAT. SO I'M SO IMPRESSED. SO I ECHO WHAT EVERY WHAT EVERYONE ELSE HAS HEARD. AND AS A FORMER TEACHER, I WILL TELL YOU, NUMBER ONE CONCERN WHEN I WALKED INTO THE CLASSROOM IS HOW DO I HANDLE CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT? BECAUSE EVERY CLASS IS DIFFERENT EVERY YEAR AND IT COMES WITH NEW PROBLEMS AND SO OR NEW OPPORTUNITIES. SO TO BE ABLE TO HAVE A RESOURCE AS A TEACHER AND TO GO AND AND HAVE THAT SAFETY NET IS SO HUGE, I THINK. SO JUST TO CALL THAT OUT, MY QUESTION FOR YOU IS YOU MENTIONED OUTCOMES. AND SO HOW WHAT ARE WE HOPING TO GET OUT OF THIS? WHAT ARE YOU HOPING TO GET OUT. AND HOW ARE YOU MEASURING THAT. RIGHT. LIKE HOW ARE WE SEEING IF WE'RE SUCCESSFUL? GREAT QUESTIONS. I THINK PART OF THAT IS ONCE AGAIN ON A SURVEY, YOU KNOW, THE PANORAMA SURVEY IS A CULTURAL CLIMATE SURVEY. IT HAS ENGAGEMENT, IT HAS GRIT. IT HAS THINKING ABOUT GROWTH MINDSET FOR YOUR LEARNERS. SO WHEN YOU'RE LOOKING AT THAT YOU ARE LOOKING AT THOSE MEASUREMENTS TO SEE DID WE HAVE GROWTH NECESSARILY? I ALSO THINK THAT YOU SEE IT IN IN OBSERVATIONS AS WELL AS WITHIN THE CLASSROOM. YOU'RE HOPING IF YOU'RE IMPLEMENTING SOME OF THESE THINGS AS WELL, YOU'RE SEEING GRADES THAT ARE IMPROVING, YOU'RE SEEING LEVELS OF ENGAGEMENT THAT YOU'RE SEEING WITHIN THE CLASSROOM. YOU'RE ALSO SEEING TRUANCY CONCERNS DWINDLE DOWN, AND YOU'RE SEEING YOUR DISCIPLINE REPORTS HOPEFULLY DWINDLE DOWN WITHIN THAT. ALSO WITHIN THERE, IF WE HAVE TO HAVE A GAP PLACEMENT, BECAUSE THOSE THINGS ARE GOING TO HAPPEN WHERE WE HAVE STUDENTS THAT ARE HAVING THAT, HOW ARE WE THEN COMING IN AND SAYING, OKAY, WE KNOW THAT, HERE'S THE CONSEQUENCE, BUT HOW HAVE WE THEN COME BACK AND SAID, OKAY, GREAT, THAT HAPPENED. EVERYBODY MAKES A MISTAKE AT SOME POINT IN TIME, BUT HOW ARE THE TEACHERS THEN WORKING WITH THAT LEARNER TO TRANSITION THEM BACK IN TO MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T HAPPEN AGAIN? SO SOME OF THAT IS THROUGH CONVERSATION WITH OUR STUDENTS. SOME OF IT IS ALSO THROUGH COUNSELOR CONTACTS. THAT'S ANOTHER DATA POINT THAT WE HAVE WHERE OUR CAMPUS COUNSELORS ARE WORKING ON THAT. SOME OF THAT IS IN OUR THREAT ASSESSMENT DATA THAT WE HAVE, WHERE LEARNERS ARE REACHING OUT EITHER THROUGH SELF HARM OR DIFFERENT THINGS THAT WE HAVE FOR THERE. SO I THINK THERE'S LOTS OF DATA POINTS THAT YOU LOOK AT, BUT IT'S PULLING THEM TOGETHER HOLISTICALLY, BECAUSE IF YOU'RE LOOKING AT TRUANCY, DISCIPLINE, THREAT ASSESSMENTS, ALL THAT AND THEN SAYING, OKAY, HERE WAS THE GROWTH THAT WE HAD. HERE'S WHERE WE EMBEDDED THE SPECIFIC LESSONS. YOUR HOPE IS THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE LEARNERS THAT ARE ALSO BEING GREAT CITIZENS ONE DAY, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU'RE THINKING ABOUT THAT, BUT IT WILL IMPACT GRADUATION RATES. IT WILL IMPACT HOW THEY ARE ACTUALLY DOING WITHIN THEIR CLASSES WHEN YOU'RE HAVING THAT CONSISTENCY TO LOOK AT THE WHOLE CHILD. SO THOSE ARE FEW. HERE'S ME. WE LIKE DATA. IT'S GOOD. DATA IS DR. BROOKS AND MS.. LEHEW. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR COMMITMENT TO THIS WORK AND YOUR SUPPORT IN THIS AREA. THANK YOU LADIES. THE NEXT PRESENTATION THAT WE HAVE COMING FORWARD IS A REPORT FROM OUR CHIEF OPERATIONS OFFICER, CHRIS TROTTER. HE WILL UPDATE THE BOARD AND THE COMMUNITY ON WHERE WE ARE WITH OUR 2023 BOND. PRESIDENT CAVINESS, MR. OR DR. HUNT AND MEMBERS OF THE BOARD. ITS SUPERINTENDENT PRIORITY GOAL FOR PHYSICAL AND OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS AND COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. I JUST WANT TO GIVE YOU A QUICK BACKGROUND THAT WE DO HAVE A BOND OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE, WHICH MR. MATTHEWS DOES, MR. MATTHEW DOES CHAIR WITH ONE OF OUR PATRONS. MR. HILL IS ALSO PART OF THAT MEETING. WE'VE HAD OUR FIRST MEETING AND WE WENT OVER A LOT OF THE THINGS THAT WE'LL BE TALKING ABOUT OVER OUR 3 TO 4 MEETINGS PER YEAR. SO WE'LL KEEP THE BOARD OVERSIGHT COMMITTEE UPDATED. AND WE HAVE ANOTHER MEETING IN JANUARY. BUT WHAT WE WANTED TO DO TONIGHT WAS TO BRING FORTH SOME OF THE DRAWINGS THAT WE'VE HAD. [00:55:03] I DO HAVE AARON BUZZARD IN THE CROWD WITH CORGAN, AND I THINK EVERYBODY HAS SEEN HER IN AND AROUND OVER THE YEARS, BUT WE JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU ALL HAVE DIRECT QUESTIONS, THAT SHE'S HERE TONIGHT AND SHE GAVE UP HER TIME FOR US. SO THE FIRST SCHOOL THAT WE GET TO TALK ABOUT IS VALLEY RANCH. YOU'LL NOTICE THAT THE FRONT FACADE IS COMING OUT IN A LITTLE MORE PROMINENT. IT DOES GIVE A LITTLE MORE SHELTER ON RAINY DAYS. YOU'LL NOTICE GLASS FRONT THAT WILL BE TO OUR DISTRICT STANDARD UNDER HOUSE BILL THREE THAT HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. AND THERE'S ALSO BENCHES AS PARENTS DROP OFF AND CHILDREN NEED TO GET THEIR BACKPACKS BACK UP ON THEIR BACKS. A LOT OF WHAT I WOULD CALL LEAD TIME TO GET UNDERNEATH THE CANOPY AND NOT INTERRUPT THE FLOW OF THE ENTRY OF THE CAMPUS. OUR NEXT SLIDE IS A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE PROJECT. AND WE'LL DO THIS ON EACH SLIDE. BUT THE CURRENT STATUS IS COST ESTIMATING WITH CORE CONSTRUCTION. BOARD CONSIDERATION IS TARGETED AT MARCH OF 24. AND THEN PROJECTION OF COMPLETION IS JULY 25TH. THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT WILL DO ABOUT A THIRD OF IT THIS SUMMER. THEN WE'RE PROGRAMING THINGS THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. WE'LL HAVE 6 TO 8 PORTABLES WITH A NICE OUTDOOR PORTABLE RESTROOM SYSTEM THAT YOU WOULD SEE AT AN A MAJOR EVENT, NOT JUST AN OUTDOOR PARTY, BUT OUR KIDS WILL BE ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR PERSONAL NEEDS OUTSIDE, AND THEN WE'LL ROTATE 6 TO 8 TEACHERS EVERY 6 TO 8 WEEKS SO THAT WE CAN DO THE PROGRAMING OF THE BUILDING AND COME ALONG TO WHERE WE'RE NOT JUST PRESSING IT INTO TWO MONTH PROGRESSES. SO THAT'S WHAT WE'RE DOING WITH THIS PARTICULAR PROJECT. I DO HAVE SOME MORE PICTURES FOR YOU, AND THEN I'LL STOP AT THE END OF EACH PROJECT TO ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS. THE BLUE PORTION OF THIS BUILDING WILL BE THE PRE-K CLASSROOMS. ON THE RIGHT HAND SIDE IS EXTENSION RESTROOMS, ART CLASSROOM, AND SOME SPECIALTY CLASSROOMS. AND RIGHT IN THIS AREA, THIS IS WHERE THE BILINGUAL TEACHER AND OR THE COUNSELORS SUPPORT NETWORK SUCH AS THE DIAGNOSTICIAN, THE LSSP, OUR SPECIAL BREAKOUT GROUPS. THE PRINCIPAL WILL HAVE SOME SAY IN HOW THE FURNITURE GOES IN THOSE ROOMS, BUT WE'VE ALSO REPURPOSED THE CENTER OF THE BUILDING WHERE THE MAIN OFFICE WAS, BECAUSE IT'S NOW IN THE YELLOW. WE HAVE ASSISTANT PRINCIPALS OFFICES, WE HAVE RESTROOMS FOR THE STAFF. WE HAVE THIS ROOM RIGHT HERE WILL BE GETTING A LITTLE BIT MORE ATTENTION AFTER YOUR FEEDBACK THE OTHER DAY, BUT IT IS AN OVERSIZE FAMILY RESTROOM CURRENTLY WHERE A MOTHER CAN TAKE IN A STROLLER, TAKE CARE OF THE FAMILY NEEDS, AND THEN COME OUT. WE GOT SOME FEEDBACK. AARON AND I WILL TWEAK THAT SLIGHTLY TO PROBABLY GIVE IT ABOUT 10 TO 12 MORE SQUARE FEET IN THERE FOR THE FAMILY TO TAKE CARE OF THEIR NEEDS, OKAY . THE CENTER OF THE SCHOOL WILL BE REPURPOSED WITH SPECIAL ED AND SOME OTHER SPECIFIC CLASSROOMS WITH OUR PROGRAMING NEEDS AND THOUGHT. THE NEXT ONE, I'LL JUST KIND OF STOP AND TAKE A DRINK OF WATER. THIS IS THE LOWER LEVEL PART OF THE LIBRARY, AND I WANT YOU TO LOOK TO THE BACK OF THE PICTURE. THAT'S ANOTHER TEACHING AREA WITH WHITEBOARDS AROUND THE ENTIRE PART SO THE KIDS CAN TAKE NOTES. THE TEACHERS CAN MAKE OBSERVATIONS OF WHAT'S GOING ON. AND IT ALSO HAS A LEARNING BOARD, ELECTRONIC LEARNING BOARD IN THERE AS WELL. AS YOU CAN SEE, THERE ARE DIFFERENT COMPONENTS. WE'VE OPENED UP THE STAIRCASE FROM OUR FOOTPRINT MODEL. SO YOU'RE GOING TO SEE A LOT MORE SUNLIGHT AND OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS TO TO FEEL A LITTLE MORE WIDE OPEN IN THAT AREA. AND THEN LILY AND HER TEAM ON THE DESIGN SIDE GOT A LITTLE CREATIVE. IF YOU NOTICE, THERE ARE STARS EVERYWHERE, AND AT THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF EVERY LETTER, THERE'S A STAR. AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS JUST A GREAT COMPONENT WITH A SHOOTING STAR ON THERE. THE PRINCIPAL WILL HAVE OPPORTUNITIES WITH WALLS LIKE THIS THAT WE MAY HAVE PUT IN VINYL, IF THE STAFF HAS A PARTICULAR THOUGHT OR WANT OR NEED. ERIN AND HER TEAM WILL BRING OUT THAT FOR EVERYWHERE YOU SEE A POTENTIAL VINYL WRAP. THE PRINCIPAL WILL HAVE SOME INPUT. [01:00:01] THIS IS A HALLWAY. IF YOU'LL NOTICE, THE STAIRCASE TO THE RIGHT CHANGES A LITTLE BIT WITH THE HANDRAIL BRINGING A LITTLE POP OF COLOR. AND THEN THERE'S ANOTHER LEARNING LAB THAT CAN BE EITHER SMALL GROUP. IT COULD BE A GROUP OF 3 TO 5. IT COULD BE AN ENTIRE CLASSROOM READING A BOOK OR DOING A SCIENCE PROJECT GOING INTO THE UNDER THE STAIRWELL NOOK, IF YOU WILL. BUT WE ARE VERY, VERY HAPPY WITH THE COLOR SCHEMES THAT CORGAN HAS COME UP WITH IN THIS PROCESS. HERE'S ANOTHER ONE. TO THE LEFT IS THE ART ROOM THAT WE ARE MAKING A LITTLE BIT BIGGER, AND WE THOUGHT ABOUT PUTTING THE GLASS GLAZING VERSUS A JUST A SHEETROCK WALL, SO THE KIDS COULD SEE ALL THE NEAT STUFF THAT GOES ON EACH AND EVERY DAY. AND ACROSS FROM IT IS A STAGING AREA FOR THE NEXT CLASS, SO WE DON'T WASTE MINUTES BECAUSE WASTING MINUTES IS NOT FUN, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU'RE HEADED INTO ART. SO WE HAVE SOME STAGING AREA THERE TO THE RIGHT. ALSO AN OPPORTUNITY FOR THE ART TEACHER TO SHOW OFF WORK IN THE BACKDROP IF YOU WILL. WITH THAT, I'LL ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS. ABOUT VALLEY RANCH. MR. TROTTER HAD TWO QUICK QUESTIONS. WHEN YOU TALK ABOUT THE CHANGE IN THE ENTRANCE, HOW MANY ADDITIONAL SQUARE FEET WILL BE GAINED BY MAKING THAT CHANGE? OBVIOUSLY THAT WALK IN AREA IS JUST IT'S USABLE SPACE BUT NOT PRODUCTIVE SPACE. AND FROM AN INSTRUCTIONAL OR ADMINISTRATIVE STANDPOINT. AND THEN THE SECOND QUESTION IS WHAT IS THE SEATING CAPACITY OF THE LIBRARY CLASSROOM? YOU HAD THE CLASSROOM IN THE LIBRARY AND THAT YOU COULD TEACH IN THAT SPACE. YES, SIR. SO WE'RE TARGETING ABOUT 8000FT² MORE, GIVE OR TAKE, AARON. AND THEN THAT'S INCLUDING THE ADMINISTRATIVE AREA AND THE SPACE THAT WE TOOK IN IN THE CENTER OF THE SCHOOL. THAT WAS HALLWAYS OR TRANSITIONAL SPACE. SO WE REPURPOSED THAT. SO WE'LL GET ABOUT 8000 MORE SQUARE FEET. AND THAT'LL BE WITH AN INDIVIDUAL HVAC SYSTEM SO THAT THERE'S NOT A POOL OFF THE EXISTING SYSTEM. SO AARON AND HER TEAM AND THE DESIGN TEAM HAVE MADE ADJUSTMENTS FOR THAT. AND THEN YOUR SECOND QUESTION WAS.. WHAT IS THE SEATING CAPACITY OF THE LIBRARY CLASSROOM? I THINK YOU CAN GET. AND I GO BACK TO THE PICTURE. SO THE PART IN THE VERY BACK, YOU CAN PROBABLY GET COMFORTABLY 25, 26 OR IF THEY REALLY WANT TO GET SNUG AND BRING IN SOME OF THE ALTERNATIVE SEATING THAT'S OUT IN THE LIBRARY ON A PERIMETER, YOU COULD GET ABOUT 35 IF THERE'S A SINGULAR LESSON THAT NEEDS TO BE TAUGHT. THANK YOU. YES, SIR. I HAD A COUPLE OF QUESTIONS. YES, MA'AM. THE FIRST ONE, YOU KNOW, AS YOU CONTINUED TO GO PAST THE LIBRARY AND INTO OTHER PARTS OF THE BUILDING, ARE WE TOUCHING ALL INTERIOR WALLS WITH AN UPGRADE OR A REFRESH? YES, MA'AM. OKAY. AND THEN PORTABLES, WHAT'S OUR SECURITY PLAN FOR THE PORTABLES? SO THEY WILL BE FENCED IN. OKAY. AND OUR MONITORS RIGHT NOW WE HAVE DNL SERVICE DOWN THERE. THEY WILL MAKE THAT PART OF THEIR LOOP EACH AND EVERY DAY. THE TEACHERS WILL TEACH WITH A LOCKED CLASSROOM DOOR, BUT THE CHILDREN WILL BE COMING THROUGH A GATE THAT WE SELECT TO MAKE SURE THEY'RE AS SAFE AS POSSIBLE EACH AND EVERY DAY. WILL IT BE FENCED CONTIGUOUSLY FROM THE EXISTING BUILDING, OR WILL THERE BE A GAP BETWEEN THE BUILD, THE EXISTING BUILDING AND THE FENCED AREA? WE WOULD PREFER THAT THEY HAVE A WALKWAY IN AND OUT, SO THAT IF THEY NEED TO GO SEE THE NURSE, TAKE SOMETHING TO THE OFFICE. BUT IT WILL BE STRATEGIC WHAT WE DO. OKAY. THANK YOU. YES, MA'AM. AS FAR AS THE PLANS GO, I THINK THERE WAS A STAGE IN THERE AND WE'RE GOING TO TALK TO THE PRINCIPAL AND THE TEACHERS. THEY'RE GETTING THE INPUT. HAS THAT ALREADY BEEN DONE OR IS THAT STILL IN THE WORKS? NO, SIR, THAT HAS BEEN DONE. WE'VE HAD TWO MEETINGS IN THE SCHOOL WITH THE WITH THE STAFF. EXCUSE ME, WITH THE PRINCIPAL AND SELECT STAFF. WE ARE GOING DOWN SHORTLY BECAUSE WE FIRMED UP THE CONSTRUCTION PLAN TO SHARE WITH THEM, LIKE WE DID AT WILSON AND MOCKINGBIRD STAFF IN OCTOBER. IT'S TIME FOR US TO GO DOWN THERE AND SHARE WITH THE THE STAFF NOT ONLY THESE PICTURES, MORE PICTURES AND HOW THAT'S GOING TO AFFECT THEM GOING INTO THE SUMMER. OKAY, THANKS. YES, SIR. MY GOSH, THIS IS SO EXCITING. IT IS SO EXCITING. AND I LOVE THE LIGHT. I LOVE THE LIGHT. AND JUST AND YOU KNOW, I CAN'T EVEN FATHOM ANY OF THIS STUFF. AND TO SEE IT, IT JUST IS SO COOL. AND SO SOME OF IT I'LL JUST HAVE TO KNOW. BUT IT LOOKS LIKE UPSTAIRS, WHICH IS KIND OF ALWAYS BEEN A LITTLE BIT OF A DARK SPACE AND NO WINDOWS. AND ARE THOSE, HOW ARE THOSE CLASSROOMS AND THAT SPACE IS THAT GOING TO CHANGE? [01:05:02] THEY WILL IF THEY HAVE WINDOWS, THEY'LL KEEP WINDOWS, BUT WE'RE GOING TO BRIGHTEN IT UP WITH LED LIGHTS. AND THEN IT'LL ALSO GET SOME OVER HERE ACROSS THIS THE PERFECT PICTURE FROM THE STAIRCASE. THEY'LL GET ADDITIONAL LIGHTING IN THE HALLWAY. AND THEN THIS OPEN. IF YOU REMEMBER THE T ONE OF THE SIDES OF THE T WILL BE OPENED WITH A GLASS. SEE THROUGH. WE DIDN'T WANT TO PUT RAILS. WE WANTED THE KIDS TO SEE DOWN NO MATTER WHAT SIZE THEY WERE, BECAUSE THERE ARE TEACHABLE MOMENTS FOR THE KINDERGARTNERS FIRST GRADE, SECOND GRADE TO GO TO THE BIG KIDS SIDE AND GO UPSTAIRS, BUT YET STILL HAVE A LESSON GOING ON BELOW THEM. I LOVE IT, AND I SEE A LOT OF THINGS THAT REMIND ME OF CANYON RANCH AS WELL THAT I REALLY LIKE. AND ONE THING I LOVE ABOUT CANYON RANCH IS ALL THE COLOR SCHEME. YOU KNOW HOW YOU HAVE KIND OF THE THE CALM AREAS FOR THE LIBRARY AND THE CIRCLES AND WHERE THE CUBBIES WHERE KIDS CAN GET IN. AND I SAW A LITTLE BIT OF THAT AS THAT GONE INTO SOME OF THE THINKING AND CONSTRUCTION WHERE WE COULD, THERE WILL CONTINUE TO BE CHALLENGES. WE'RE AT 95%, BUT WE'RE STILL TAKING SOME OF THOSE THOUGHTS AND COMMENTS. IF YOU LOOK TO THE BACK LEFT, THERE'S SOME OPPORTUNITIES. THERE'S A NOOK AND THEN A TEACHABLE MOMENT ON THAT CORNER. THERE'S SOME OPPORTUNITIES FOR KIDS TO BE COLLABORATIVE THERE AS WELL. SO THERE'S PROBABLY ABOUT 8 OR 10 SPOTS THROUGHOUT THE CAMPUS FOR THEM TO STAY WITHIN THE BUILDING ON A RAINY DAY. BUT YET WE'LL HAVE COLLABORATIVE SPACE TO BECOME, YOU KNOW, OLDER YOUNG PEOPLE. I LOVE THE FRONT OF IT, TOO. IT ALL JUST MAKES IT'S SUPER, SUPER COOL TO SEE. AND WHAT IS KIND OF THE THOUGHTS AND FEEDBACK FROM THE EDUCATORS AT VALLEY RANCH? ARE THEY EXCITED? THEY HAVEN'T SEEN THIS YET. WE WANTED TO GIVE YOU ALL THE THE FIRST VIEW, SO WE HAD A SCHEDULING CONFLICT. I DID TRY TO GET DOWN THERE FRIDAY TO TO SHOW CYNTHIA ATTERBURY, BUT WITH VETERANS DAY AND I TRIED TO GO DOWN AND SHE GOT PULLED, BUT IT'S OKAY. WELL, SHE'S GOING TO SEE IT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING. VERY EXCITING. THANK YOU. AND WE'RE GOING TO LIKE I SAID, WHEN MR. MATTHEW ASKED HIS QUESTION, WE WILL GO DOWN AND DO A FULL PRESENTATION. IT TAKES ABOUT 20 MINUTES AND THEN WE STAY ANOTHER 45 MINUTES ANSWERING INDIVIDUAL QUESTIONS. RIGHT. IT'S AMAZING. I WAS GOING TO SAY, YOU KNOW, WHAT YOU CAN DO TO A 30 OR 40 YEAR OLD BUILDING JUST TO, YOU KNOW, MODERNIZE IT, BUT OPEN IT UP AND MAKE IT MORE INVITING AND FRIENDLY FOR FOR THE ENVIRONMENT. SO THANK YOU, AARON, AND ALL EVERYBODY AT CORGAN TOO FOR Y'ALL'S WORK. ALL RIGHT. NEXT OPPORTUNITY. THE FINE ARTS BUILDING. THERE'S A LOT OF LITTLE THINGS THAT I CAN ENJOY SHOWING YOU ALL NIGHT LONG, BUT WE'RE GOING TO GIVE YOU THE 30,000 FOOT VIEW. BUT THIS IS THE FINE ART BUILDING. IF YOU NOTICE FRONT FACADE FOR KIDS TO TO SIT OUT IN AND ENJOY THEIR TIME ON BEAUTIFUL DAYS LIKE WE HAD TODAY, THERE'S SOME ACCENT WALLS THERE DOWN THE FRONT TO BRING SOME, SOME MATURITY TO THE BUILDING. AND THEN WE ALSO TALKED THOUGHT ABOUT THE OPERATIONAL SIDE. AND I'LL SHOW YOU THAT IN JUST A LITTLE BIT OF HOW TO GET UP TO THE ROOFTOP UNITS IN A SAFE, ORDERLY MANNER AND TAKE CARE OF OUR LONG TERM MAINTENANCE OF THE BUILDING. SO THIS CURRENT STATUS IS IN COST ESTIMATING WITH CORE CONSTRUCTION. WE MET ACTUALLY TODAY ON THIS BUILDING. WE ARE NEARING BRINGING OPPORTUNITIES TO Y'ALL AT LEAST. WELL, IT'LL BE BY MARCH. I THINK WE MAY COME A LITTLE BIT EARLY AND PROJECT COMPLETION IS JULY OF 2025. SO NOT THIS SUMMER, BUT THE FOLLOWING. THIS RENDERING WE KEPT, IT BROKE DOWN. SO BEING AN AGGIE, THE AGGIE MAROON PART IS THE BAND HALL. YOU KNOW, I HAD TO THROW IT IN THERE JUST A LITTLE BIT. THE PINK PORTION OR SALMON IS THE CHOIR ROOM OR THE CHOIR DEPARTMENT, AND ACTUALLY THE ONE BETWEEN THE THE MAROON PART AND THE YELLOW PART WILL PROBABLY BE SHARED WITH THE BAND BECAUSE THERE'S A PERIOD OR TWO THAT THE CHOIR NEEDS IT, BUT THERE'S OTHER PERIODS. THAT BAND PROBABLY NEEDS IT A LITTLE BIT MORE. AND THEN THE YELLOW IS THIS IS A BIG GYMNASIUM DOWN HERE ON THE BOTTOM. AND THAT'S ALSO OUR TORNADO AREA THAT WE HAVE TO HAVE. WE IN THE MIDDLE IS DRESSING ROOMS FOR DRILL TEAM CHEER AND THE COLOR GUARD WITH RESTROOMS. THAT IS GOING TO BE PHENOMENAL AS FAR AS PROBABLY ABOUT 12 FACILITIES FOR THEM TO USE. BIG MAKEUP MIRROR, LOTS OF THINGS FOR THEM TO TAKE CARE OF THEMSELVES ON, AND THEN COACHES AREA AND THEN A BIG STOREROOM BECAUSE REMEMBER, [01:10:08] CHEER HAS MATS, DRILL TEAM HAS A BUNCH OF STUFF, FLAG CORPS HAS BUCKETS OF TWIRLER DEALS AND RAFFLES. AND MR. MILLER WOULD MAKE FUN OF ME IF HE JUST HEARD ME SAY THAT. SO ONE LITTLE NOTE RIGHT HERE AND Y'ALL WILL GET THIS IN A BIGGER BLOWN UP PORTION. BUT IN THE TORNADO AREA, WE DO HAVE TO HAVE INDIVIDUAL TOILETS, MALE AND FEMALE. AND THEN WE HAVE THIS VESTIBULE WITH STAIRCASE TO THE ATTIC AND AND TO THE TOP OF THE BUILDING. FELT LIKE IT WAS BETTER TO HAVE, IN A SENSE, A ZIP BACK FOR THE MAINTENANCE GUYS VERSUS CLIMBING A LADDER TO GET TO THE TOP. SO WE TOOK A LITTLE BIT OF EXPENSE AND PUT THAT IN THERE FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR EMPLOYEES FOR LONG TERM USAGE. IT ALSO GIVES US A LITTLE BIT OF STORE ROOM FOR CUSTODIANS TO BE ABLE TO PUT THE CLEANING MACHINES DOWN HERE AT THE BOTTOM OF IT. SO IT'S MULTI USE, BUT WE HAD TO THINK ABOUT THAT. AND THAT, THERE'S THE BAND HALL WITH THE ACOUSTICAL PANELS. THE FLOOR THAT YOU SEE IS THE CARPET THAT'S IN THE HIGH SCHOOL RIGHT NOW. BUT WE'RE GOING TO ALLOW THE FINE ARTS TEAM TO DECIDE WHAT FLOORING THEY WANT. DO THEY WANT LVT OR DO THEY WANT CARPET SIMILAR TO THIS MATERIAL? IT'LL BE THE HIGH SCHOOL PATTERN, BUT IT'S THEIR FACILITY. THEY NEED TO TELL US WHAT THEY WANT. ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE BAND HALL? YEAH. ON THE FINE ARTS BUILDING. ARE THERE CHANGING AREAS ALSO FOR THE BAND AND FOR THE CHOIR? BECAUSE I KNOW THAT IS A THING ON FRIDAYS OR DURING MADRIGALS OR WHATEVER. YES, MA'AM. RIGHT HERE IN THE MIDDLE ARE TWO LARGE RESTROOMS. MALE, FEMALE, WITHOUT ANY LOCKERS, BUT MAYBE 6 OR 8, SO THAT KIDS WITH SPECIAL CIRCUMSTANCES, MEDICATIONS THAT MAY NEED TO BE LOCKED. THAT'S THE WAY MR. MILLER AND THE FINE ARTS FOLKS CHOSE. AND IN THE BOTTOM PORTION, RIGHT HERE WITH CHOIR, THEY JUST WANTED A QUICK CHANGING ROOM. AND SO THEY HAVE THAT BUILT IN THERE. THANK YOU. YES, MA'AM. LOOKS GREAT, BY THE WAY. WELL, CREDITS BACK THERE, I JUST KIND OF LAID THE GROUND. THAT'S GREAT. AARON. SO MR. TROTTER DID HAVE TWO QUICK QUESTIONS FOR YOU. YOU TALKED ABOUT THE STORM SHELTER, BUT I WANT TO GO BACK TO VALLEY RANCH A LITTLE BIT BECAUSE OF THAT. WITH THE AMOUNT OF MODIFICATIONS TO THE BUILDING, ANY BUILDING REQUIREMENT, UPGRADES FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT FOR THE BUILDING THAT HAD TO BE TAKEN INTO ACCOUNT AS YOU'RE DEALING WITH THE SAME THINGS HERE WITH THE FINE ARTS BUILDING ENSURING THAT THE BUILDING STANDARDS ARE IN LINE. I THINK WE HAVE HOUSE BILL THREE AS THE BUILDING STANDARD, AND THEN ALSO WHAT'S APPROPRIATE FOR CODE WITHIN THE CITY OF COPPELL OR DALLAS COUNTY. SO WE'VE STAYED WELL WITHIN THAT IN BOTH BUILDINGS AT THIS TIME. OKAY. GOING TO OUR NEXT FACILITY. THIS IS THE TENNIS CENTER ENTRY. IF YOU'LL NOTICE, TO THE RIGHT IS A LITTLE TICKET WELCOMING DEPENDING ON WHAT ACTIVITY IS GOING ON. WE CAN DO A WHOLE LOT WITH THAT FRONT FACADE. BUT WE JUST PUT THE THE LETTERS FOR COPPELL TENNIS. BUT I KNOW OUR COACHES HAVE SOME OTHER IDEAS AND WITHIN THE BUDGET WE WILL ACCOMMODATE WHAT THEY WOULD WISH TO HAVE. CURRENT STATUS. IT'S IN COST ESTIMATING. AND THEN WITH COURT CONSTRUCTION AGAIN, BOARD CONSIDERATION AT LEAST BY MARCH 2024 PROBABLY IS GOING TO BE EARLY SO THAT WE CAN GET OUT. IF YOU REMEMBER, WE ARE BIDDING THESE TWO PROJECTS, THE FINE ARTS BUILDING AND THE TENNIS CENTER TOGETHER, BUT THEY WILL BE IN SEPARATE BUILDING PURPOSES BECAUSE THAT'S THE WAY THE VOTERS VOTED ON IT. SO WE'RE BIDDING THEM TOGETHER BECAUSE THEY'RE IN PROXIMITY, BUT THEY'LL BE ACCOUNTED FOR SEPARATELY. HERE'S THE LAYOUT. THE BLUE PORTION ON THE TOP IS THE CURRENT EXISTING STRUCTURE. THE ONLY PART THAT WE'VE KEPT IS THE MECHANICAL ROOM. EVERYTHING ELSE IS GETTING A FACELIFT. THE COACHES AND COACH PEHL IN PARTICULAR, ASKED FOR ADDITIONAL STORAGE SO THAT WHEN WE HAVE CITY EVENTS OR OTHER EVENTS, THAT THERE'S EXTRA STORAGE FOR THOSE PEOPLE COMING IN TO USE OUR FACILITY, AND THEN WE HAVE A BIG TEAM ROOM AND THEN ALSO WE THIS IS THE PART ERIN AND HER TEAM HAS REDESIGNED. INSTEAD OF HAVING JUST ONE FACILITY, WE NOW HAVE 6 OR 7 FOR MALE AND FEMALE, SO THAT WILL HELP OUR FACILITIES AS WE MOVE FORWARD, [01:15:06] BECAUSE RIGHT NOW THERE'S ONLY ONE PER PER RESTROOM. WHAT THE DESIGN HERE WAS IS TO HAVE A BREEZEWAY. YOU'LL NOTICE A COUPLE OF GATES THROUGHOUT THE BREEZEWAYS, BUT WHEN WE HAVE OTHER EVENTS OR A CITY EVENT, THIS BUILDING WILL ONLY BE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND OUR STAFF. WE'LL KEEP THE TWO SEPARATED, AND THAT WAY WE CAN MAKE SURE EVERYBODY'S ACCOMMODATED APPROPRIATELY. COACHES OFFICE TO SEE THE BREEZEWAY AND OUT TOWARDS THE TENNIS COACH. FACILITIES FOR THE COACHES, JANITORIAL, STORAGE, MAJOR LOCKERS, RESTROOMS THAT CAN ACCOMMODATE THE NEEDS OF OUR CHILDREN. WE HAVE ABOUT 100IN THE PROGRAM RIGHT NOW. WE'RE TARGETING ABOUT 115, 120 WITH THE LOCKER SPACE, AND IT'S ABOUT 6565. OOPS. I SHOWED YOU THE NEXT STEP. ANY QUESTIONS ABOUT THE TENNIS CENTER? I KNOW HISTORICALLY THAT TENNIS CENTER WAS LACKING IN TERMS OF SHOWER FACILITIES. WILL THEY BE HOW MANY SHOWERS WILL THEY BE IN THAT FACILITY? SO DOWN HERE AT THE BOTTOM THERE ARE TWO MALE, TWO FEMALE. AND THEN UP AT THE TOP THERE'S ALSO ONE IN THE COACHES FACILITY, MALE AND FEMALE. THAT WAS A POINT OF DISCUSSION. HOW MUCH DO YOU PUT IN. HOW MUCH DO YOU NOT? TALK TO A BASEBALL PARENT, THEY GAVE THEIR INPUT. WE UTILIZE THAT, WE WENT BACK THROUGH THE METHODOLOGY 2 OR 3 TIMES. ANYBODY ELSE. ALL RIGHT, NEXT ONE UP. LET ME GUESS. TENNIS, I MEAN PLAYGROUND, PLAYGROUNDS. PLAYGROUNDS ARE GREAT. IF YOU ALL RECALL, I GOT TO SPEND TIME WITH THE LEE ELEMENTARY FOURTH GRADERS BACK IN SEPTEMBER. THEY GAVE US A LOT OF GREAT IDEAS. THEY HAD A BUDGET OF 200,000, WHICH WASN'T FAR OFF OF WHAT THE EQUIPMENT COST. BUT IF YOU'LL NOTICE, SOME OF THEIR SUGGESTIONS WERE SWINGS. AND THEN THIS IS THE LITTLE KIDS PLAYGROUND TO THE LEFT. AND THEN IF YOU'LL NOTICE, THERE ARE MANY DIFFERENT WAYS THAT WE'LL ASK PRINCIPALS BEFORE CHRISTMAS. DO THEY WANT THEM SIDE BY SIDE? DO THEY WANT THEM SEPARATED WITH A CONCRETE BOUNDARY? WE'RE LOOKING AT THE FALL ZONES TO BE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE YOU KNOW, WE'RE NOT GOING BACK TO WOODCHIPS AND WE'RE NOT GOING TO THE POURED PLAYGROUND SURFACE, WHICH IS WITHIN OUR BUDGET. BUT WE FELT LIKE THAT THIS WAS GOING TO BE THE OPTION. AARON SENT ME ABOUT 20 DIFFERENT SCHOOLS THAT WERE BETWEEN HERE AND MY RIDE HOME. SO I WOULD STOP BY A PLAYGROUND AND THEY'RE VERY NICE. THE TURF IS. SO WE FELT LIKE THAT WAS A GOOD MIDDLE GROUND FOR OUR BUDGET. WITH THAT, YOU'LL SEE AWNINGS, BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT WAS PROMISED TO THE COMMUNITY WHEN WE DID OUR FACILITY STUDIES. AND THEN WHAT WE'LL DO WITH THE PRINCIPALS. THERE'S PRINCIPALS THAT ARE NOT ON THE COLOR AND THE FURNITURE GROUP OR ON THE PLAYGROUND GROUP, AND THEY'LL SHARE WITH US WHAT APPARATUSES WE WILL NOT HAVE THE THE BUNGEE CORD TYPE STUFF, IT JUST FRAYS AND IT'S CONTINUAL MAINTENANCE. BUT YOU'LL SEE A LOT OF HARD SURFACE CLIMBING, WHICH IS WHAT THE FOURTH GRADERS TOLD US THEY WANTED. THEY HAVE SOME OPPORTUNITIES TO CLIMB IN A LADDER FORMATION. THERE ARE PLATFORMS FOR THEM TO BE ABLE TO TALK AT THE TOP. SO ALL OF THE THINGS THE KIDS HAVE ASKED US TO LOOK AT, WE'RE GOING TO. AND SO THE PRINCIPALS WILL MAKE THE FINAL DECISION. THERE IS SOME OPPORTUNITIES FOR COLORS, BUT WE'RE GOING TO ASK PRINCIPALS TO TRY TO STAY WITH SIMILAR LIGHT COLORS ON ALL PLAYGROUNDS SO THAT WHEN WE HAVE A REPLACEMENT PIECE, WE CAN ORDER IT WITH THOSE SORTS OF COLOR SCHEMES IN MIND. BUT THE APPARATUSES, AS YOU SEE ON THE RIGHT, WILL HAVE THE COVERED AWNINGS AND THE SWINGS WILL NOT. ANY THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS REGARDING PLAYGROUNDS? OF ALL THE INPUT YOU GUYS ARE GETTING. THIS SEEMS VERY ENGAGING, AND I THINK IT'S GREAT TO HEAR FROM THE KIDS WHO WILL ACTUALLY BE USING IT. YEAH, IT WAS A GREAT. IT WAS A GREAT DAY. AND EVERY TIME I GO BACK TO LEE, THEY TUG ON MY COAT, TAIL OR SHORTS. MR.. ARE YOU BACK TO GIVE US AN UPDATE? I SAID, GIVE ME TILL FEBRUARY. I'LL GIVE YOU THE WHOLE UPDATE, AND Y'ALL CAN EVEN HELP ME BREAK GROUND IF YOU NEED TO. AT LEE ELEMENTARY EXPLAINED TO ME, JUST GOING BACK TO THE PLAYGROUND, I DIDN'T QUITE UNDERSTAND WHAT THE TURF IS AND HOW THAT'S [01:20:02] DIFFERENT FROM WHAT WE HAVE NOW. AND YES, MA'AM, LIKE THE SAFETY AND THE HEAT AND ALL THAT. CAN YOU TELL ME A LITTLE MORE ABOUT THAT? I'D BE HAPPY TO. SO THERE'S THREE THOUGHTS RIGHT NOW IN THE PLAYGROUND WORLD. YOU HAVE THE WOODCHIPS, MAYBE EVEN THE BLACK PELLETS THAT GO ON THE ASTROTURF AT THE FOOTBALL FIELD. BUT THOSE GET A LITTLE HOT FOR LITTLE GUYS. AND SO THAT'S ONE GROUP, THE WOODCHIPS AND THE LITTLE PEBBLES. THEN YOU GO UP TO THE TURF AND IT WON'T HAVE, BUT MAYBE JUST A LITTLE BIT OF SAND AND A LITTLE BIT OF THE BLACK DOTS, BUT NOT A LOT. AND THEN THERE'S THE POURED RUBBER SURFACE THAT IF IT TEARS, THEN WE CAN FIX IT. BUT THEN YOU ALWAYS HAVE A BROKEN PART OF THE ENVELOPE, IF YOU WILL, OF THAT SURFACE. SO LISTENING TO THE KIDS, LISTENING TO THE ADULTS, LISTENING TO THE MANUFACTURERS, LISTENING TO THE PEOPLE THAT INSTALLED 10 OR 12 A SUMMER, WE CHOSE TO GO WITH THE TURF. WE CAN GET A WHEELCHAIR ON THERE. WE CAN MAKE SURE THAT WE HAVE ADA COMPLIANCE WITH THAT. WE'LL HAVE A SWING THAT THE KIDS CAN GET ON THAT MAY HAVE SPECIAL NEEDS, BUT THEY CAN GET ON ANY OF THE SURFACES BECAUSE IT'S MORE FLAT VERSUS THE WOOD CHIPS WHERE THEY STRUGGLE. THANK YOU FOR THAT. AND WE HAVE WOODCHIPS RIGHT NOW CURRENTLY, RIGHT? YES, MA'AM. OKAY. YES, MA'AM. AND WE HAVE TO GO AND CHECK THEM AND MAKE SURE. AND WE HAVE TO ADD TO THEM EVERY NOW AND THEN. BUT AND WE HAVE TO GO RAKE THEM AND GRADE THEM OUT. BUT WE WON'T HAVE TO DO ANYTHING BUT A LITTLE SANITATION ON ONE TIME OF YEAR. YES, MA'AM. ANYBODY ELSE? THE ELEMENTARY PLAYGROUNDS ARE OUT FOR BID. WE ARE TALKING TO PLAYGROUND COMPANIES NOW. YOU SHOULD HAVE BOARD CONSIDERATION IN JANUARY. TAKES ABOUT 14 TO 16 WEEKS DEPENDING ON WHAT OUR PRINCIPALS CHOOSE IN THE END. BUT WE HOPE TO START BREAKING GROUND LATE MAY EARLY JUNE AND HAVE THEM ALL IN BEFORE THE AUGUST 1ST. MM. AND THEN THE STADIUM UPDATE. I DIDN'T BRING PICTURES BECAUSE WE'RE PRETTY MUCH GOING WITH THE SIMILAR LIKE THEY'RE PUTTING FINAL RENDERINGS. IT IS OUT FOR BID. WE DID BID AT CSP COMPETITIVE SEAL PROPOSAL. WE HAD FOUR PEOPLE SHOW UP AT THE PRE-BID MEETING AND WE'LL SEE WHAT HAPPENS IN THE NEXT FEW I THINK IT'S LIKE TWO WEEKS RIGHT AFTER THANKSGIVING, AND THEN THE COMMITTEE WILL COME TOGETHER AND BRING A RECOMMENDATION TO YOU ALL NO LATER THAN JANUARY. WE MAY BRING IT IN DECEMBER. SO THE COACHES HAVE HAD INPUT. THEY HAVE LOOKED AT RENDERINGS. THE TRACK IS THERE IN DIFFERENT OPPORTUNITIES FOR THEM TO MAKE SOME SELECTIONS. IT'LL BE INTERESTING TO SEE HOW THE COACHES TURN OUT WITH THEIR LITTLE SURVEY. SO BUT IT IS OUT FOR BID RIGHT NOW IN OUR PURCHASING DEPARTMENT. MR. TROTTER, I HAD A QUESTION TO GO BACK TO THE PLAYGROUND A SECOND ABOUT THE WHAT'S THE COST DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE THAT RUBBER OUR EYES FULL FLOOR AND LIKE THE TURF VERSUS YOU SAID LIKE THERE WAS SAND AND BLACK PELLETS. YOU KNOW I WAS.. JUST JUST A LITTLE BIT. YEAH. AND I WAS JUST WHAT IS THE COST DIFFERENCE THERE. IS IT, IS IT REALLY HIGH OR IT IN THE SCHEME OF THINGS IT'S A LITTLE BIT ON THE HIGH SIDE. IS IT SOMETHING WE CAN CONSIDER? YES SIR. BUT DID I PRICE THEM INDIVIDUALLY? OBVIOUSLY WHEN YOU'RE BUILDING EIGHT PLAYGROUNDS IT COULD GET COMPETITIVE. THE REASON WHY WE CHOSE TO LOOK AT THE TURF MORE SO WAS THE OPERATION SIDE AND THE MAKING SURE THAT IF WE HAD A PARTICULAR PUNCTURE IN THAT RUBBERIZED, THAT WE DIDN'T START GETTING FRAYING. AND WITH OUR HOT TEXAS SUN, I'M NOT WORRIED ABOUT THE COLD. I'M WORRIED ABOUT THE SUN, THAT IT STARTS CRACKING ONCE YOU DEVELOP A BREACH OF THE ENVELOPE. OKAY, THAT'S IF YOU WANT ME TO LOOK INTO IT PRICE WISE. I'LL BE HAPPY TO ANSWER THAT FOR YOU. NO, I WAS JUST WONDERING, BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, THOSE BLACK PELLETS, I MEAN, DEPENDING ON HOW MUCH THOSE ARE GOING TO USE, THEY KIND OF GET EVERYWHERE AND, YOU KNOW, HEAR ABOUT IT. SO WE WON'T HAVE THAT, IF ANY. IT'LL BE MOSTLY TOP SAND AND IT'LL SHIFT DOWN AS WE PUT WATER ON IT. BECAUSE IF IT DOESN'T RAIN NEXT SUMMER, WE'LL HAVE TO WATER IT BECAUSE IT'S PART OF THE FOUNDATION. OKAY. SO THERE'S WE CAN MINIMIZE THAT. YEAH I'M GETTING A YES. OKAY. GOOD. THANKS. ANY OTHER THOUGHTS OR COMMENTS? JUST WONDERING THAT WHAT'S THE LIFE SPAN OF THE TURF LIKE THAT WITH OUR HOT SUMMERS THAT YOU JUST MENTIONED. WITH WHAT WE HAVE GOING AND THE NUMBER OF STUDENTS PER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, WE'RE TARGETING 9 TO 12 YEARS BEFORE WE WOULD EVEN HAVE TO THINK ABOUT REPLACEMENT. NOW, OBVIOUSLY, IF WE HAVE A DEFECT, THOSE COMPANIES WARRANTIES WILL BE CALLED IN AND WE'LL DO IT AS SOON AS WE DO HAVE A BREACH. [01:25:03] BUT LOOKED AT 3 OR 4 IN DENTON, 3 OR 4 IN LITTLE ELM, 3 OR 4 IN FRISCO, 1 OR 2 IN PROSPER. I HAVEN'T SEEN ONE THAT IRVING, I THINK SID WENT THE OTHER WAY. HE WENT TO IRVING AND ARLINGTON AND GRAPEVINE COLLEYVILLE. WE HAVEN'T SEEN ONE. ONE DID COME UNTUCKED AT A CORNER. THEY FIXED IT. SO WE'LL CALL THE WARRANTY ON THEM IF WE HAVE TO. YES, MA'AM. I JUST HAD A QUICK COMMENT. I WANT TO SAY THANK YOU FOR THE COLLECTIVE UPDATE, AND ALSO THE METHODOLOGY THAT YOU'RE USING TO ENGAGE AND CONNECT, AS TRUSTEE BENTLEY TALKED ABOUT EARLIER, BUT IT LOOKS LIKE THINGS ARE COMING ON QUITE WELL AND THAT EVERYBODY, YOU KNOW, AS THEY SEE THESE THINGS ROLL OUT, WILL BE QUITE PLEASED WITH WHAT THEY SEE AND HEAR. OBVIOUSLY PEOPLE WANT THINGS SOONER THAN LATER, BUT BY JULY 2025, I THINK THEY'LL BE VERY HAPPY. I THINK WHEN SCHOOL STARTS, THEY'RE GOING TO BE VERY, VERY HAPPY. JUST TO GIVE YOU A FINAL THOUGHT OR COMMENT. WE WILL BE BRINGING TO YOU A POTENTIAL FURNITURE BID PURCHASE. WE HAVE TO DO THAT AHEAD OF TIME. PRINCIPALS WILL BE TALKING TO MANUFACTURERS. WE'LL BE ACTUALLY GATHERING AT KENYON GATE DAY AFTER TOMORROW. EXCUSE ME, KENYON RANCH DAY AFTER TOMORROW. SO THEY CAN SEE WHAT GOOD THINGS ARE GOING ON AND WHAT WE GOT. AND WE'RE GOING TO KEEP THOSE IN THE 1 OR 2 THINGS THAT MISS MINTON HAS MENTIONED TO ME. WE'RE GOING TO MAKE SURE WE ADJUST THOSE AND MAKE IT A LITTLE BIT BETTER. AND THEN WE'RE GOING TO GO TO THE MANUFACTURER TO SEE THE ACTUAL PRODUCT HERE IN THE AREA. SO WE'LL MAKE THAT FIELD TRIP. BUSSES ARE COMING IN. TECHNOLOGY IS COMING ALONG. WE START OUT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL WITH THE VERKADA SECURITY SYSTEM IN THE NEXT 2 TO 3 WEEKS. WE'VE GOT A LOT GOING ON IN OPERATIONS, BUT IF YOU EVER HAVE A QUESTION, PLEASE EMAIL ME. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, MR. TROTTER. YES, SIR. THANK YOU. GREAT JOB. AND AS A REMINDER TO THE COMMUNITY, THE PRESENTATIONS THAT ARE SHARED TONIGHT ARE ON OUR WEBSITE, PARTICULARLY THE ENTIRE BOND PAGE HAS UPDATES THAT ARE BROUGHT UPDATED PERIODICALLY. AND SO, AGAIN, APPRECIATE MR. TROTTER AND WANT TO MAKE SURE THE COMMUNITY IS AWARE OF WHAT IS HAPPENING WITH OUR BOND. SAME THING WITH OUR BUDGET. AS YOU ALL KNOW, THE DIRECTED FROM THE BOARD HAS BEEN TO ME TO MAKE SURE THAT WE START THIS PROCESS EARLY. AND SO WE'RE LOOKING NOT ONLY AT OUR 24-25 BUDGET, BUT ALSO WE HAVE OUR CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER, DENNIS SIRCAR, HELPING US AS WE PREPARE FOR THE 25-26 SCHOOL YEAR. GOOD EVENING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES. DR. HUNT. WE ARE LOOKING AT SUPERINTENDENT PRIORITY GOAL FOR AND FISCAL OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS. THE 22-23 FISCAL YEAR HAS ENDED AND THE AUDITORS ARE CURRENTLY PREPARING THE FINAL FINANCIAL STATEMENTS. WE HOPE THAT THE AUDITORS WILL BE HERE IN PROBABLY ABOUT FOUR WEEKS IN FRONT OF THE BOARD TO PRESENT THE FINAL AUDIT. IT APPEARS THAT THE DISTRICT WILL REALIZE A DEFICIT BETWEEN ABOUT $500,000 AND A MILLION. SO SOMEWHERE AROUND A HALF $1 MILLION IS WHAT WE EXPECT TO THAT DEFICIT. THE BOARD HAD SOME PRIORITIES FOR THE 2324 BUDGET, AND THOSE ARE LISTED ON THE SCREEN. THE HIGHEST PRIORITY BEING TO REMAIN A LEADER IN SALARY AND BENEFITS AND EMPLOYEE RETENTION. THE DISTRICT ADDED ABOUT $12.7 MILLION OVER OUR PRIOR YEAR BUDGET, WHICH IS HOW WE GOT TO THE DEFICIT THAT WAS ADOPTED IN AUGUST. SO. HERE YOU CAN SEE THE ITEMS LISTED THAT WERE ADDED TO THAT BUDGET. MUCH OF IT BEING COST OF LIVING AND MARKET BASED INCREASES, AS WELL AS THOSE POSITIONS THAT WERE ADDED FOR SOME STEAM AND STEM EDUCATION, SPECIAL EDUCATION, AS WELL AS SOME OF THE MANDATED SAFETY REQUIREMENTS THAT THE DISTRICT WAS REQUIRED TO ADD. SO AS WE LOOK FORWARD TO OUR BUDGET PLANNING FOR 24-25, WE MUST ALSO LOOK TOWARDS 25-26, BECAUSE AT THIS POINT IN TIME DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR, MANY DECISIONS ARE ALREADY MADE AS FAR AS SCHEDULES, CLASS SELECTION, ETCETERA. SO ANY CHANGES TO THE 24-25 BUDGET THAT WE PUT IN WOULD BE MINOR IN COMPARISON WITH ANYTHING ELSE. SO WE NEED TO LOOK FORWARD TO 25-26 TO DETERMINE WHAT WE WILL DO TO ADDRESS THE DISTRICT'S BUDGET DEFICITS. THE BOARD, WE NEED TO UNDERSTAND WHAT THE PRIORITIES ARE THAT THE BOARD HAS FOR THIS YEAR. [01:30:03] UNFORTUNATELY, THE LEGISLATURE IS IN THE FOURTH SPECIAL SESSION. WE DO NOT KNOW IF ANY FUNDING WILL COME OUT OF THAT SPECIAL SESSION. RIGHT NOW. IT'S JUST A BATTLE BETWEEN EDUCATIONAL SAVINGS ACCOUNTS ON THE SENATE SIDE AND SCHOOL FUNDING BILLS ON THE HOUSE SIDE. WE DO KNOW, THOUGH, BASED ON OUR DEMOGRAPHERS REPORT, THAT THE DISTRICT ENROLLMENT HAS PEAKED AND WILL SLIGHTLY DECLINE. THERE WILL BE NO ADDITIONAL FUNDING THAT WE KNOW OF. AND THAT MEANS THAT IF THE STATE FUNDING STAYS THE SAME AS IT IS TODAY, CURRENT STATE FUNDING WILL DECLINE BY ABOUT A HALF $1 MILLION PER YEAR BASED UPON THOSE DEMOGRAPHERS ENROLLMENT REPORTS. WE DO KNOW OUR ELEMENTARY ENROLLMENT IS DECLINING, AND THAT WHERE WE'RE GOING TO SEE SOME STABILIZATION IS IN OUR SECONDARY SCHOOLS. SO WE ASK THE BOARD, AT THIS POINT IN TIME, WHAT FEEDBACK OR DIRECTION YOU WOULD GIVE US AS WE PREPARE FOR THE BUDGET PLANNING PROCESS. WE HAVE A BUDGET WORKSHOP SCHEDULED ON FEBRUARY THE 5TH, AND SO WE'D LIKE TO UNDERSTAND PRIORITIES, THOUGHTS AND WAYS IN WHICH YOU'D LIKE US TO FOCUS AS WE ADDRESS THE CHALLENGES WITH THE DISTRICT'S BUDGET. AND WITH THAT, I KNOW WE TOUCHED ON KIND OF THE CALENDAR AND IN THE BUDGET CYCLE AND BOARD PRIORITIES THAT OUR TEAM OF EIGHT TRAINING. SO LAST WEEKEND WE CAME BEFORE RECENTLY. ARE THERE, OR IS THERE A NEED FOR YOU GUYS TO REVISIT THE PRIORITIES? I KNOW WHEN WE PUT THOSE TOGETHER AND WORKED ON THEM EXTENSIVELY LAST FALL AND INTO THE WINTER, THE IDEA WAS, YOU KNOW, WE KIND OF DID THAT WITH A TWO YEAR PHASE IN, YOU KNOW, WITH A CHUNK OF THINGS, YOU KNOW, DEPENDING ON THE LEGISLATIVE CYCLE, WHICH WE'RE STILL WAITING ON. SO DO YOU GUYS HAVE A NEED FOR US TO REVISIT THOSE PRIORITIES, OR ARE WE STILL GOOD WITH WHAT THE PRIORITIES ARE AND HOW DO WE NEED TO PROCEED THERE? I MEAN, MY THOUGHT IS THAT, YOU KNOW, WE WERE REALLY INTENTIONAL ABOUT IT BEING A TWO YEAR PROCESS. SO MY MY THOUGHT IS WE STAY THE COURSE AND DON'T PANIC YET, EVEN THOUGH IT'S KIND OF A GLOOMY PICTURE LEGISLATIVELY I WOULD THERE'S SO MUCH WE DON'T KNOW. AND MAYBE MY ANSWER TO THAT QUESTION WOULD CHANGE BY FEBRUARY. BUT GIVEN WHAT WE KNOW RIGHT NOW, I WOULD SAY WE STAY THE COURSE. BARRING RANNA FEELING LIKE SHE WOULD LIKE TO BE INVOLVED IN A CONVERSATION SINCE SHE WASN'T PART OF THAT GROUP, THAT WOULD BE THE ONLY EXCEPTION I WOULD MAYBE HAVE AS FAR AS THE DISCUSSING THE PRIORITIES AGAIN. THANK YOU. THAT WOULD BE REALLY HELPFUL. I JUST LIKE TO ECHO TRUSTEE BENTLEY'S COMMENTS. I THINK STAYING, OF COURSE, BECAUSE THERE'S SO MUCH UNKNOWN AND YOU'RE HEARING A LOT OF DIFFERENT THINGS THAT COULD TAKE YOU DOWN DIFFERENT PATHS. I THINK THE OTHER THING, TOO, IS BE VERY, VERY INTENTIONAL ABOUT UNDERSTANDING THE IMPACTS OF ANYTHING THAT COULD HAPPEN. BECAUSE, YOU KNOW, WHEN YOU MAKE CHANGES, HAVE COMMENTS BEING MADE IT EASILY, CAN SEND PEOPLE OFF IN DIFFERENT DIRECTIONS. IN TERMS OF WHAT DOES THAT MEAN FOR ME PERSONALLY AS AN EDUCATOR, BUT ALSO AS A PARENT COMMUNITY MEMBER AS WELL? SO I THINK BEING INTENTIONAL TO YOUR POINT, I THINK IS HAS BEEN VERY IMPORTANT IN THIS PROCESS, RIGHT? BECAUSE IT WAS DONE WITH THE THOUGHT IT WOULD BE A LITTLE BIT LONGER TERM, NOT SHORTER TERM IN NATURE. YEAH I AGREE. TRUSTEE BENTLEY TRUSTEE HILL. AND TO BRING IN TRUSTEE RAVAL TO KIND OF ALL BE ON THE SAME PAGE. I DON'T SEE ANY SIGNIFICANT NEEDING TO COURSE CORRECT OR DO ANYTHING SIGNIFICANTLY DIFFERENT. MY ONLY THOUGHT, AND I OFFER THIS UP TO YOU GUYS AND I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE TIMING, IS WE KNOW THAT ELEMENTARY ENROLLMENT IS GOING TO CONTINUE TO BE AN ISSUE THAT WE NEED TO ADDRESS. AND SO I AM THINKING, WHAT DO I NEED TO KNOW TO BE ABLE TO MAKE DECISIONS IN THE FUTURE? AND SO I WOULD JUST THROW OUT THE IDEA, DO WE NEED TO CREATE A TASK FORCE OR A BOARD COMMITTEE, YOU KNOW, OF OUR COMMUNITY TO MAYBE LOOK, TO LOOK AT THIS, TO BE ABLE TO GET SOME SOME FEEDBACK? I DON'T KNOW, WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? AND IS THIS THE APPROPRIATE TIME OR DO WE WAIT A LITTLE BIT? BUT THAT IS THE INFORMATION I'M GOING TO NEED TO KNOW MOVING FORWARD IS I WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE ENGAGE OUR COMMUNITY IN TACKLING DEFINITELY OUR OUR ENROLLMENT AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL. I WOULD SAY WAIT UNTIL YOU HAVE SOME CLARITY, BECAUSE IF YOU DON'T HAVE CLARITY, YOU HAVE A LOT OF SPECULATIONS AND THAT SENDS YOU IN THE WRONG PLACE. I MEAN, I KNOW FOR FROM A STAFF STANDPOINT, YOU KNOW, THEIR TIME IS VERY VITAL AND CRITICAL IN WHAT THEY'RE DOING AND THEY HAVE OTHER THINGS GOING ON IN [01:35:08] ADDITION TO THAT. SO I WOULD IT WOULD BE PREMATURE FROM MY PERSPECTIVE TO START ANY CONVERSATIONS THAT WOULD REQUIRE ANY THOUGHTFUL ACTION OR ADDITIONAL WORK. I'M I'M LIKE MINDED WITH WITH TRUSTEE HILL. I COMPLETELY AGREE WITH YOU. TRUSTEE WALKER THAT THERE'S INFORMATION THAT WE'RE GOING TO NEED. THERE'S CONVERSATIONS THAT WE MAY NEED TO HAVE OR MAY NEED TO CONSIDER HAVING. AND I KNOW WHEN WE TALKED ABOUT PRIORITIES, WE TOLD THE COMMUNITY, YOU KNOW, THERE WOULDN'T BE SURPRISES. THERE WOULD BE PLENTY OF LEAD TIME. AND I FEEL LIKE WE'RE STILL IN THAT WINDOW OF PLENTY OF LEAD TIME. UM. AND THERE'S AGAIN, SO MUCH THAT'S UNKNOWN. SO I THINK I THINK IT'S GOING TO BE A WISE THING TO DO. I THINK WE'RE NOT QUITE THERE TIMING WISE YET, IN MY OPINION. I WOULD AGREE WITH THAT AND AGREE WITH YOUR SENTIMENT TOO, THAT WE NEED TO HAVE THAT AS PART OF THE PROCESS. BUT, YOU KNOW, I DON'T THINK WE'RE THE TIMING IS NOT THERE YET FOR THAT REASON THAT YOU MENTIONED TRUSTEE HILL, JUST THE SPECULATION VERSUS WE DON'T HAVE, YOU KNOW, SOME CONCRETE DATA THAT WE CAN FALL BACK ON AND IDEAS OF HOW ARE WE GOING TO SOLVE A PROBLEM YET IN THAT REGARD? BUT I THINK THE OTHER POINT IS WE'VE STILL GOT THIS STRATEGIC, YOU KNOW, DESIGN GROUP WORKING, AND WE NEED TO LET THAT PROCESS PLAY OUT SO THAT WE CAN ALSO SEE THINGS MORE HOLISTICALLY AND COLLECTIVELY, BECAUSE I THINK IT ALL IS GOING TO WORK IN HAND IN HAND AS WE WORK OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF YEARS. THAT'S A GREAT POINT, DAVID. AND I WOULD SAY WHEN THE TIME COMES FOR THAT, WHEN WE MAKE DECISIONS, I THINK GETTING COMMUNITY AFFAIRS RIGHT, I THINK THE WAY WE SET THE PRIORITIES WAS FORWARD LOOKING. YOU KNOW, WE FOCUSED ON TEACHER RETENTION AND PAY. THAT WAS ONE, AND WE KIND OF EXECUTED AGAINST THAT. BUT THEN LOOKING AT COST SAVINGS IS NATURALLY AS PART OF THE PRIORITY LIST THAT WE HAD. SO WE'RE KIND OF WAITING ON ALL RIGHT, WELL LET'S LINE UP WHAT OUR DATA. AND SO THEN WE CAN APPLY THAT AGAINST WHAT THE FUNDING IS GOING TO BE. AND THAT'S TAKING A LITTLE BIT LONGER THAN WE WOULD HAVE EXPECTED. BUT WE FOCUSED ON THAT. AND DAVID, YOUR POINT AS WE KIND OF GET THESE MULTIPLE STREAMS COMING TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE STRATEGIC DESIGN COMMITTEE AND THE FUNDING AND SEEING WHERE WE'RE EFFICIENTLY DEPLOYING OUR RESOURCES, THEN WE KIND OF LOOK AT ALL THAT TOGETHER. WE CAN. I THINK THE PRIORITIES ARE WELL SET UP FOR THAT, TO ENABLE THAT, THAT INTELLIGENT CONVERSATION AT A LATER DATE. I LOVE IT. SO WHAT I'M HEARING AND I HAVE A LOT OF ALIGNMENT WITH IS STAY THE COURSE. LET'S LET STRATEGIC DESIGN PLAY OUT AS IT SHOULD, BECAUSE I CAN GIVE THAT THE SPACE AND THE ROOM TO GROW. AND NO SURPRISES THOUGH IT'S SLOW AND STEADY WINS THE RACE. IS THAT WHAT I'M HEARING BECAUSE I'M IN COMPLETE ALIGN WITH THAT. MISS. I WAS GOING TO SAY. YEAH. AND I THINK THAT JUST ONE POINT REAL QUICK, SORRY. BECAUSE THAT WAS ONE OF OUR PRIORITIES TOO, WAS NO SURPRISES. AND MAKE SURE THAT WE GIVE OUR COMMUNITY PLENTY OF LEAD TIME. SO STAYING THE COURSE WITH THAT SPECIFICALLY I THINK IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE. SORRY. GO AHEAD. NO, THAT'S VERY THAT'S VERY REASSURING. I'M ON THE SAME PAGE AND I DON'T KNOW, MISS SIRCAR DOES THAT GIVE YOU AT THIS STAGE INFORMATION THAT YOU NEED? SO I THINK AS WE HEAD TOWARDS FEBRUARY, THERE ARE GOING TO BE SOME SOME WORK THAT WE'RE GOING TO NEED TO DO. I DO BELIEVE THAT WE WILL KNOW. LET'S HOPE BY THEN WHAT THE LEGISLATURE MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE DONE, BUT I DON'T BELIEVE THEY'RE GOING TO BE DELIVERING A MAGIC BULLET THAT'S GOING TO CORRECT OUR BUDGET WOES. SO I THINK THERE ARE GOING TO NEED TO BE SOME DECISIONS MADE. AND I AND I DO AGREE THAT WE NEED THE TIME TO DO THAT. SO BY FEBRUARY, WE NEED TO START TALKING ABOUT WHAT WE NEED TO DO FOR 25-26 AND IN ORDER TO GIVE THE COMMUNITY THE LEAD TIME THAT THEY NEED. THOSE DECISIONS NEED TO BE MADE IN THE SUMMER. SO WHILE IT IS ONLY NOVEMBER, IT WILL BE JANUARY BEFORE WE KNOW IT AND THEN IT WILL BE FEBRUARY. AND IT'S JUST IMPORTANT THAT WE START ON THIS WORK BECAUSE NO DECISION IS GOING TO WANT TO BE MADE LIGHTLY. THERE'S GOING TO NEED TO BE A LOT OF THOUGHT AND A LOT OF ANALYSIS INTO INTO ANY DECISIONS THAT WOULD IMPACT PEOPLE, THAT WOULD HELP US TO ADDRESS THE BUDGET DEFICIT. AND SO I THINK THAT WE NEED TO BE ABLE TO TO MOVE FORWARD, TO BE ABLE TO COME WITH SOME IDEAS AND GET SOME IDEAS AND FEEDBACK FROM THE BOARD AT THIS POINT IN TIME. [01:40:04] I FEEL AS THOUGH WE ARE KIND OF, AS YOU PUT IT, STAYING THE COURSE, STICKING WITH PRIORITIES THAT SAY WE NEED TO FOCUS ON OUR TEACHERS AND ON OUR COMPENSATION. BUT THERE'S GOING TO BE A POINT IN THE ROAD WHEN WE HAVE TO MAKE SOME HARD DECISIONS. AND SO THAT'S WHERE IF WE CAN GET SOME ADDITIONAL FEEDBACK FROM THE BOARD PRIOR TO THAT FEBRUARY 5TH MEETING, THAT WOULD BE GREAT AS WELL. THIS IS THE BUDGET PLANNING CALENDAR, AND YOU'LL NOTE THAT IT DOES SAY FOR 24-25 AND FOR 25-26 JANUARY 22ND, THERE'S A BOARD MEETING AND WE'LL PROVIDE A MID-YEAR UPDATE ON WHAT OUR CURRENT BUDGET LOOKS LIKE, HAVING BEEN ABOUT ALMOST HALFWAY THROUGH. WE'LL PROVIDE SOME UPDATE ON ANY LEGISLATIVE ACTION THAT IMPACTS SCHOOL FUNDING. ON FEBRUARY 5TH WILL BE THAT BOARD WORKSHOP WHERE WE START LOOKING AT BOTH THE 24-25 AND 25-26 PLANNING. AND THEN AS TYPICAL, WE'LL HAVE A MAY, A JUNE AND AN AUGUST BUDGET WORKSHOP WHERE WE'LL PRESENT THE BUDGETS FOR THE 24-25 SCHOOL YEAR. BUT ON TOP OF THAT, WE'LL NEED TO BE TALKING ABOUT THE 25-26 BUDGET AS WE KNOW IT. AND THEN IN AUGUST, WE'LL WE'LL HIT THE ADOPTION OF THE BUDGETS AND TAX RATE FOR 24-25. MS. SIRCAR, WHEN WE TALK ABOUT THE FEEDBACK YOU WERE REQUESTING AHEAD OF FEBRUARY 5TH, IN WHAT REGARD COULD, YOU KNOW, I GUESS WHAT TYPE OF FEEDBACK ARE YOU WANTING FROM US? INFORMATION FROM THE BOARD ABOUT WHAT TYPE OF AS AS MS.. WALKER SAID, YOU KNOW, WHAT IS IT THAT SHE NEEDS TO KNOW ABOUT ELEMENTARY ENROLLMENT? WHAT OTHER QUESTIONS DO YOU HAVE LIKE THAT THAT WOULD HELP US TO HAVE A PRODUCTIVE DISCUSSION ON FEBRUARY 5TH? AND SORRY. I'LL LET YOU GO. PLEASE. IN TERMS OF US, IS THAT SOMETHING WE JUST EMAILED TO YOU INDIVIDUALLY LIKE WE DID KIND OF THROUGH THE PROCESS LAST YEAR. AND THEN YOU GUYS ARE YOUR TEAM WILL COMPILE THAT INTO. SURE. YES. SOME ANSWERS BACK OR IN WORKING INTO THE PRESENTATION. OKAY. ABSOLUTELY. I HAVE TWO QUESTIONS, I GUESS, FOR THE BOARD AND MAYBE ALSO FOR MS.. SIRCAR. THE FIRST ONE, DR. HUNT, JUST CLARIFY FOR ME. WE'RE GOING TO GET THE STRATEGIC PLANNING REPORT RECOMMENDATION AT THE FEBRUARY REGULAR BUSINESS MEETING. CORRECT? WHICH IS AFTER THE FEBRUARY 15TH BOARD WORKSHOP. YES, VERY. FEBRUARY 5TH IS THE BOARD WORKSHOP. AND THEN THE BOARD MEETING IN FEBRUARY IS WHEN THE FINAL PLAN WILL BE. SO I KNOW FOR ME, I WOULD REALLY LIKE TO HEAR WHAT COMES OUT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING BEFORE I'M. IT MAY MAKE SOME THINGS SHAKE OUT OR MORE APPARENT OR LEAN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER. SO I JUST KNOW FOR ME PERSONALLY, I WANT TO HEAR WHAT'S GOING TO COME OUT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING. BEFORE I'M ASKING YOU MRS SIRCAR FOR MORE INFORMATION. THAT'S ONE THING FOR ME. AND THEN I WONDER I HAVE IS IF THERE'S A CHANCE THAT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A DISTRICT COMMITTEE OR A BOARD SUBCOMMITTEE DOING ANY SORT OF WORK OR ANALYSIS RELATED TO OR SEEKING INPUT RELATED TO ELEMENTARY, WOULD IT BE WISE TO PUT A JULY WORKSHOP ON THE CALENDAR IN CASE WE NEED IT, KNOWING WE COULD ALWAYS CANCEL IT? BUT IF WE'RE TALKING ABOUT HAVING SOME DIRECTION BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS IN THE FALL, I JUST WONDER, LOOKING AT THIS TIMELINE, IF IT WOULDN'T BE SMART TO BUILD IN ONE MORE OPPORTUNITY TO DO THE WORK OR HAVE A DISCUSSION IF WE NEED IT. AND I KNOW FOR ME IT'S BETTER IF IT'S ON MY CALENDAR AND WE CANCEL IT, THEN FOR US TO TRY TO SCHEDULE IT, YOU KNOW, A MONTH OUT IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER. YEAH. DR. HUNT AND I ACTUALLY TALKED ABOUT THAT LAST WEEK AS WE WERE. LOOKING AT CALENDAR AND AGENDA THAT IT WOULD BE WISE TO ADD IT ON AND CANCEL IT IF WE DON'T NEED IT. BUT WITH VACATIONS AND EVERYTHING, IF YOU GUYS WANT TO WANT US TO GO AHEAD AND PLAN FOR THAT, WE'LL GET A DATE ON THERE. MIGHT AS WELL. YEAH, THAT WAS DISCUSSED LAST WEEK, BUT WE KNEW WE HAD THIS MEETING TODAY AND WANTED TO BE VERY TRANSPARENT AND ALSO LET EVERYBODY ELSE WEIGH IN TO BACK TO MISS BENTLEY'S COMMENT ABOUT STRATEGIC DESIGN, REMEMBER OR NOTE THAT WE'LL HAVE AN UPDATE NEXT MONTH. IT WON'T BE TOO FAR INTO ACTION TEAM, BUT WE'LL HAVE ONE NEXT MONTH. MISS BROWN WAS HERE, BUT SHE MAY HAVE HAD TO STEP OUT. BUT JANUARY WILL HAVE ANOTHER. AND THEN. SO YOU'LL KIND OF HAVE AN IDEA OF THE DIRECTION AND WHERE THINGS ARE GOING. IF WE NEED TO MAKE SOME ADJUSTMENTS THERE, WE CAN SLIGHTLY, BUT WE'VE PRETTY MUCH TOLD THOSE ACTION TEAMS THEY HAVE THIS AMOUNT OF TIME TO WORK, SO I DON'T WANT TO CUT THAT TIME SHORT. AGREED. BUT ALSO, THEY DO RECOGNIZE THERE'S A COST BENEFIT ANALYSIS PROCESS TO THIS WHOLE PLANNING PIECE. AND SO THERE'S THAT, YOU KNOW, WE DON'T WANT TO PUT A CAP ON BRAINSTORMING AND VISIONING AND PLANNING, BUT WE ALSO WANT TO BE REALISTIC AND PROVIDE SOME GUIDE RAILS. [01:45:08] SO THERE'S THAT PIECE. UM, YOU SAID SOMETHING ELSE AND I WAS GOING TO RESPOND TO IT, AND NOW I'M DRAWING A BLANK. FEBRUARY. JULY WORKSHOP. WE DID THAT PART. OH, KIND OF TO WHAT MISS SIRCAR WAS SAYING. AND WHAT ARE SOME THINGS THAT YOU ALL MIGHT NEED BEFORE THE 5TH OF FEBRUARY? ONE CERTAINLY EMAIL MR.. AND INCLUDE ME IN THAT AS WELL, SO THAT WE CAN ALL BE ON THE SAME PAGE TOO. IN ADDITION TO YOUR PRIORITIES, WHICH YOU HAVE SET WITH US BEFORE, WE'RE STILL DOING SOME OF THE THINGS THAT YOU'VE ASKED ABOUT US TO ASK FOR US PREVIOUSLY, AS IN OPEN ENROLLMENT. WE'LL HAVE SOME INFORMATION THAT WE CAN SHARE FOR YOU ON THAT. AGAIN, BACK TO MISS BROWN. SHE'S WORKING VERY CLOSELY WITH, ESPECIALLY OUR ELEMENTARY CAMPUSES ON MARKETING AND SHARING THOSE GREAT STORIES SO THAT WE MAKE SURE PARENTS KNOW WHEN THEY ARE CHOOSING SCHOOLS, THAT THEY'RE CHOOSING RSD. SO WE'LL DO AS MUCH AS WE CAN ON THOSE WITH THOSE TYPES OF THINGS. BUT TO MR. CARR'S POINT, EVENTUALLY WE'LL HAVE MAXED OUT THAT AND WE'LL NEED TO BE LOOKING AT SOME OTHER COMPONENTS. MR. TROTTER IS NEW TO OUR TEAM, BUT HE COMES WITH THE WEALTH OF EXPERIENCE. HE ALREADY HAS SOME IDEAS AS FAR AS EFFICIENCIES AND MAYBE EVEN SOME COST SAVINGS WITH OPERATIONS. THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING NEW WE COULD BRING ON THE FIFTH. SO ANYTHING ALONG THOSE LINES? I JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THE TEAM HAS AMPLE TIME TO PUT THAT TOGETHER BECAUSE, AS YOU KNOW, NEXT WEEK'S FALL BREAK AND THEN WINTER BREAK AND THEN THAT DOESN'T GIVE TOO MUCH TIME IN JANUARY BEFORE FEBRUARY 5TH. SO WE JUST WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT WE'RE WORKING AHEAD AND GETTING AS MUCH TOGETHER AS POSSIBLE. I WOULD THROW IN, YOU KNOW, AS WE TALK ABOUT THE ELEMENTARY ENROLLMENT PIECE, AND THIS KIND OF CAME OUT OF A QUESTION AT THE LAST ILEAP SESSION FROM A COMMUNITY MEMBER. BUT, YOU KNOW, I KNOW WITH OUR DEMOGRAPHERS REPORT, WE'RE KIND OF LOOKING AT OR WE'VE BEEN LOOKING AT A STANDARD SET OF WHEN WE LOOK AT THE EFFICIENCY AND CAPACITY, BUT YOU KNOW, WE HAVE DIFFERENT, YOU KNOW, PROGRAMS AND PRE-K ON SOME CAMPUSES AND, YOU KNOW, OUR DIFFERENT SPECIAL ED THAT THAT HAS DIFFERENT RATIOS VERSUS THE, YOU KNOW, 22 TO 1. SO MAYBE A BETTER IDEA PER CAMPUS BASED ON HOW THEY'RE BEING USED NOW OR IN THE CASE OF VALLEY RANCH AND THE ELEMENTARIES THAT WE'RE GOING TO UPGRADE, JUST WHAT THE FUNCTIONAL CAPACITY OR OPTIMAL CAPACITY IS AS WE'RE LOOKING AT THAT. SO WE'RE LOOKING AT I THINK MORE, YOU KNOW, REAL TIME DATA VERSUS WE CAN DO THAT. YES. YEAH. JUST AS THINGS EBB AND FLOW, WE CAN CERTAINLY MAKE THOSE ADJUSTMENTS. AND THEN AS MR. TROTTER MENTIONED TOO, THERE ARE SOME THINGS THAT ARE REQUIRED NOW THAT WEREN'T REQUIRED PREVIOUSLY A SPOT FOR AN SRO, A MOTHER'S ROOM FOR, YOU KNOW, EXPECTED MOTHERS OR ACTUALLY YOUNG OR MOTHERS THAT HAVE JUST GIVEN BIRTH SO THEY CAN DO ALL THOSE KINDS OF THINGS THAT NEED TO BE DONE THERE. AND SO WE WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT THOSE TYPES OF THINGS ARE THERE FOR STAFF. BUT ALSO PROGRAMING WISE IS. PLEASE STOP. THAT DOESN'T HELP. I WAS TRYING TO BE AS DELICATE AS I POSSIBLY COULD. AND THEN YOU TWO LAUGHING ON THE END DOESN'T HELP. BUT YOU KNOW WHAT I MEANT BEHIND THAT. YEAH. SO ANYWAY, WE WILL DO ALL OF THOSE THINGS AND MORE AS WE PREPARE FOR THE FIFTH. IS THERE ANYTHING ELSE YOU ALL CAN SHARE? TRUSTEE HILL. YEAH, YOU CAN GO AHEAD. AND I WAS GOING TO ASK, I KNOW, I THINK WE ASKED MAYBE ONE OF THE BUDGET WORKSHOPS ALSO AND THIS IS PROBABLY SIGNIFICANT LEAD TIME IS NECESSARY FOR THIS IN CASE IT HASN'T ALREADY BEEN DONE, WHICH IS THAT THE PROGRAMS THAT WE HAVE, HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO MAINTAIN THE ENROLLMENT IN THEM, THE UTILIZATION, THAT KIND OF NUMBERS LIKE SO THAT WE CAN SEE THAT AS A SNAPSHOT. RIGHT. SO TWO TWO AND THEN UTILIZATION OF THAT. SO THAT'S GOOD FOR EVALUATION PURPOSES. I KNOW WE'RE TRYING TO DO AS MANY REVENUE GENERATING AVENUES AS WE'RE TRYING TO FIND WITH OPEN ENROLLMENT AND ALL. BUT THEN THE REST COMES WITH, WELL HOW ARE WE SPENDING OUR MONEY? IS THAT GOING TO THE MOST EFFICIENT AND THE MOST EFFICIENT MANNER? I THINK THAT'S PROBABLY A VERY KEY PIECE. PROBABLY TAKE A WHILE TO PIECE TOGETHER. IF THAT HASN'T ALREADY BEEN STARTED, WE CAN BRING THAT. I JUST WOULD LIKE TO SAY TO MY FELLOW TRUSTEES, HAVING GONE THROUGH THIS PROCESS THROUGHOUT MY TENURE ON THE BOARD, WHEN YOU'RE GETTING TO PLACES LIKE THIS, I THINK IT WOULD BE VERY HELPFUL TO REACH OUT AND TO THOSE TOUCHPOINT AREAS THAT YOU HAVE CONTACTS AND SEEING THINGS BY GOING TO TASA/TASB SLI, KIND OF LEANING BACK ON THOSE AND THINKING CRITICALLY HOLISTICALLY, BECAUSE AT THE END OF THE DAY, ALL OF THESE THINGS HAVE TO WORK TOGETHER. [01:50:03] SO THESE INDIVIDUAL PIECES HAVE VALUE TO TRUSTEE MATTHEW'S POINT, BUT ALSO LOOK HOLISTICALLY, BECAUSE WHEN YOU MAKE DECISIONS TODAY, THEY HAVE AN IMPACT IN THE FUTURE. AND HAVING BEEN ON THE BOARD FOR A WHILE, SEEING SOME OF THE THINGS THAT HAVE WORKED, THOSE ARE THE THINGS THAT THAT COME TO MIND TO ME AND THOSE THINGS THAT NEEDED TO BE TWEAKED. BECAUSE SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO MAKE DECISIONS. YOU DON'T HAVE ALL THE ANSWERS AND INFORMATION, AND YOU STILL HAVE TO MAKE THE DECISION, BUT YOU HAVE TO BE COMFORTABLE WITH WHATEVER DECISIONS THAT YOU MAKE AND YOU CAN'T LOOK BACK AND REGRET. AND THAT'S THE ONE THING I WILL TELL EACH OF YOU IN LOOKING AT THIS. DON'T LOOK BACK AND REGRET SAYING, OH, I DID NOT. YOU HAVE WHAT YOU HAVE AND YOU HAVE TO MAKE DECISIONS BASED ON WHAT YOU HAVE, AND YOU HAVE TO LIVE WITH THOSE AND BE OKAY WITH IT. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. THANK YOU, MISS SIRCAR. AND THAT CONCLUDES OUR SUPERINTENDENT REPORTS. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU, DR. HUNT AND TEAM FOR THOSE PRESENTATIONS. THAT WILL MOVE US INTO OUR ACTION ITEMS. [VII.A. CONSENT] FIRST UP IS CONSENT. I MOVE THAT WE APPROVE CONSENT AS PRESENTED. SECOND. ALL RIGHT. WE HAVE A MOTION BY TRUSTEE NICOLE BENTLEY, SECONDED BY TRUSTEE ANTHONY HILL, TO APPROVE CONSENT AS PRESENTED. ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, WE'LL TAKE A VOTE. ALL IN FAVOR? A MOTION PASSES SIX ZERO. AND THAT WILL TAKE US TO ITEM B, DISCUSS AND CONSIDER REVISIONS TO CH LOCAL BOARD POLICY. [VII.B. Discuss and consider the revisions to CH (LOCAL) Board Policy] YES. GOOD EVENING. AND REGARDING CH LOCAL, THE DURING OUR SPRING POLICY REVIEW WITH TASB . TASB SUGGESTED THAT THE DISTRICT ADOPT A NUMBER OF STANDARD POLICIES INSTEAD OF THE CUSTOM POLICIES THAT WE HAD, AND CH LOCAL WAS ONE IN WHICH COPPELL ISD HAD A CUSTOM POLICY FOR MANY, MANY YEARS. UNDER THAT POLICY, THE BOARD GRANTED THE AUTHORITY TO THE SUPERINTENDENT TO ACCEPT AN AWARD ALL BIDS FOR BUDGETED EXPENDITURES IN THE 6200 TO 6400 SERIES CODES, INCLUDING LIBRARY BOOKS. ET CETERA. AND THAT POLICY WAS CHANGED WITH THE POLICY ADOPTION IN IN THE SPRING. SO THE ADMINISTRATION WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THAT THE BOARD APPROVE THE POLICY THAT HAD BEEN IN PLACE FOR MANY YEARS, REMEMBERING THAT THE BOARD DOES APPROVE THE ANNUAL BUDGET AND THAT ALL OF THOSE EXPENDITURES ARE WITHIN THAT BUDGET, THE THE DISTRICT WOULD BRING ANY ITEMS THAT WERE $50,000 OR MORE UNDER CAPITAL EXPENDITURES. SO ANYTHING THAT'S WITHIN THE BOND FUNDS, THAT'S OVER $50,000 WOULD COME TO THE BOARD FOR APPROVAL, AS WE HAVE BEEN DOING. ANY QUESTIONS OR. COMMENTS. DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW WE GOT CAME TO THE PLACE OF HAVING THIS CUSTOM POLICY THAT PREDATES ME. AND I COULD PROBABLY SPEAK TO THAT BECAUSE THERE ARE A NUMBER OF DISTRICTS THAT DO HAVE CUSTOM POLICIES. THE STANDARD POLICY IS THAT THE DISTRICT WOULD BRING TO THE BOARD ANY SINGLE ITEM OF GOODS OR SERVICES THAT WAS $50,000 OR MORE. SO THAT COULD BE SOMETHING LIKE A PIECE OF SOFTWARE. IT COULD BE A SERVICE PROVIDED TO ORGANIZE A TRIP FOR OUR STUDENTS. IT COULD BE OUR SERVICE FOR INTERNET SERVICE. IT COULD BE A LOT OF DIFFERENT, JUST STANDARD THINGS. AND AND AS INFLATION HAS HIT US, THERE ARE MORE AND MORE ITEMS THAT END UP OVER THAT $50,000 PRICE TAG. BUT EVEN THINGS SUCH AS THE AUDIT SERVICE THAT WE HAVE, OUR TAX COLLECTION SERVICE, THE SERVICE THAT WE GET FROM THE APPRAISAL DISTRICT, OUR ELECTIONS, ALL OF THOSE ARE ALL OVER 50,000 AND WOULD REQUIRE US TO COME TO THE BOARD PRIOR TO MAKING THOSE PURCHASES OR CREATING THOSE POS. SO IT WOULD JUST REALLY DELAY THE THE PURCHASING PROCESS. ANY ELSE. QUESTIONS? COMMENTS? I'D LIKE TO MAKE A MOTION. I'D LIKE TO MAKE THE MOTION TO ADOPT THE REVISION TO BOARD POLICY CHS LOCAL AS PRESENTED. SECOND. OH. I THINK YOU SAID CHS YEAH, IT WAS IN THE RECOMMENDED, THAT'S THE REASON I SAW THAT. OKAY, LET ME REVISE THAT. I'D LIKE TO MAKE THE MOTION TO ADOPT THE REVISION TO BOARD POLICY CH LOCAL AS PRESENTED. SECOND. HAVE A MOTION BY TRUSTEE ANTHONY HILL, SECONDED BY TRUSTEE JOBBY MATHEW, TO ADOPT THE [01:55:10] REVISION TO POLICY C H LOCAL AS PRESENTED. ANY FURTHER DISCUSSION? HERE, AND THEN WE'LL TAKE A VOTE. ALL IN FAVOR? THE MOTION PASSES SIX ZERO. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. AND THAT'S NEXT UP IS ITEM C. [VII.C. Discuss and consider the approval of Glenn Engineering for Civil and Structural Engineering Services] DISCUSS AND CONSIDER APPROVAL OF GLENN ENGINEERING FOR CIVIL AND STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING SERVICES. GOOD EVENING AGAIN. AS YOU KNOW, WE HAVE STARTED A LOT OF CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS NEEDING CIVIL ADVISEMENT ON OUR PROJECTS. THEY ALSO WILL DO SOME CIVIL WORK FOR US, SIMILAR TO THE SCOPE OF AN ARCHITECT. AND THIS PERSON HAS ACTUALLY BEEN WITH THE SCHOOL DISTRICT FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND WAS ACTUALLY THE CIVIL ENGINEER ON THE ORIGINAL TURF PROGRAM OUT AT THE HIGH SCHOOL. SO HE HAD A LITTLE TEAR IN HIS EYE WHEN WE WERE GOING THROUGH THE TURF PROJECT THE OTHER DAY, BECAUSE IT'S HIS THIRD RENDERING. SO WE ASK THAT YOU PROVIDE AN OPPORTUNITY TO REVIEW GLENN SERVICES FOR OUR CIVIL WORK AS WE MOVE FORWARD THROUGH THE BOND. OKAY. I'D LIKE TO MAKE THE MOTION TO APPROVE THE HIRING OF GLENN ENGINEERING FOR ALL 2023 BOND PROJECTS REQUIRING THE USE AND SERVICES OF A CIVIL OR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER. SECOND. HAVE A MOTION BY TRUSTEE ANTHONY HILL, SECONDED BY TRUSTEE NICOLE BENTLEY, TO APPROVE THE HIRING OF GLENN ENGINEERING FOR ALL 2023 BOND PROJECTS REQUIRING THE USE AND SERVICES OF A CIVIL OR STRUCTURAL ENGINEER. ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE, WE'LL TAKE A VOTE. ALL IN FAVOR? THAT MOTION PASSES SIX ZERO. THANK YOU, THANK YOU. AND THAT IS THE END OF OUR ACTION ITEMS. THAT WILL MOVE US INTO OUR DISCUSSION REPORT ITEMS. [VIII. DISCUSSION AND REPORT ITEMS - BOARD OF TRUSTEES] I'VE GOT THE FIRST ONE WITH TEAM OF EIGHT. DEBRIEF AND NEXT STEPS. AS I MENTIONED EARLIER, WE DID HAVE OUR ANNUAL REQUIRED TEAM OF EIGHT. ALTHOUGH IT'S REALLY A TEAM OF NINE BECAUSE MISS SNOWDEN IS ALWAYS THERE WITH US FOR THESE. AND THANK YOU FOR THAT TOO, BY THE WAY. YOU KNOW, WE CONTINUE JUST FOR THE COMMUNITY. AND SO WE CONTINUED KIND OF WHAT WE HAD STARTED, YOU KNOW, AT OUR PREVIOUS TEAM OF EIGHT AND KIND OF WAS A CONTINUATION IN TERMS OF, YOU KNOW, JUST BOARD GOALS, ACTIVITIES. WE TALKED ABOUT OUR CALENDAR, SOME AND ACTION ITEMS MOVING FORWARD FROM THAT. I GUESS I'LL OPEN IT UP FOR YOU GUYS ON NEXT STEPS OR WHAT, WHAT YOU GUYS WOULD LIKE TO SEE AS WE MOVE FORWARD. I WOULD JUST LIKE TO COMMENT THAT I THOUGHT KIM CASTON DID AN AMAZING JOB FACILITATING THAT, AND I REALLY LIKED THE CONNECTION TO OUR PREVIOUS TEAM OF EIGHT. IT DID FEEL CONNECTED AND NOT INDIVIDUAL, SO I REALLY FEEL LIKE IT'S BUILDING. SO I WOULD JUST URGE THAT WE CONTINUE TO BUILD ON THE EXISTING WORK THAT WE HAVE. I THINK WE COULD HAVE STAYED FOR ANOTHER 4 OR 5 HOURS. IT WAS VERY EXTREME, IT WAS VERY PRODUCTIVE AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS IT WAS COLLABORATIVE AND ALL THOSE THINGS, YOU KNOW, WITH OUR STRATEGIC DESIGN PROCESS OCCURRING RIGHT NOW, I DON'T REALLY, I CAN'T THINK OF ANYTHING TOP OF MIND THAT I WANT TO SEE DIFFERENT FROM THAT, OTHER THAN JUST SUPPORT AND BE ENGAGED IN THAT PROCESS. BUT AGAIN, JUST TO WRAP UP AND SAY, I THOUGHT IT WAS A REALLY GOOD TIME AND I THOUGHT THAT KIM DID A REALLY GOOD JOB LEADING US. BECAUSE MY FIRST TIME ATTENDING THE TEAM OF EIGHT TRAINING, AND I THOUGHT THAT WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE. ALL RIGHT. AND THAT WILL MOVE.. I'M GOING TO, JOBBY'S FINISHING CHEWING, SO I'LL JUMP IN. ALL RIGHT. SO I THOUGHT IT WAS GREAT TOO, I WAS GLAD THAT WE HAD KIND OF THE CONTINUITY AND THE CONTINUATION OF THE CONVERSATION WITH KIM. I WOULD ACTUALLY BE OPEN TO BRINGING HER BACK AGAIN. SHE SEEMS TO GET US AND MANAGE OUR DYNAMIC WELL, AND I FELT LIKE SHE DID A GOOD JOB MOVING US TOWARDS SOMETHING. SO IT WASN'T JUST THIS, YOU KNOW, DISCUSSION THAT DIDN'T REALLY LAND ANYWHERE. BUT I DID FEEL LIKE AT THE END, THERE WERE A COUPLE OF THINGS THAT WE DIDN'T KIND OF BRING COMPLETELY TO CLOSURE, LIKE BOARD GOALS. AND SO FOR ME, I WOULD LOVE IT IF WE FIGURED OUT A WAY TO CONTINUE THAT CONVERSATION. AND AGAIN, I FEEL LIKE ALL OF THE STARS ARE IN ALIGNMENT RIGHT NOW. RIGHT? LIKE WE'RE DOING STRATEGIC PLANNING. WE'RE REVISITING THE BUDGET PROCESS, THE TIMING OF EVERYTHING, US HAVING TO HAVE NEW GOALS IN TO, TO BY AUGUST. YOU KNOW, TO ME IT SEEMS LIKE SPRING WOULD BE A GOOD OR AFTER THE WINTER BREAK WOULD BE A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO TRY TO SOLIDIFY SOME OF THE CONCEPTS THAT WE TALKED ABOUT [02:00:07] AND REALLY BRING IT TO TO A FINE POINT OR SOMETHING THAT WE'RE ALL REALLY CLEAR ABOUT THE CONCLUSION, AND THAT WAS JUST A FACTOR OF TIME, EVEN THOUGH WE STAYED AN ADDITIONAL HOUR, WHICH I THOUGHT NOBODY SEEMED ANNOYED BY THAT. WHICH IS NOT ALWAYS THE CASE WHEN YOU'RE THERE LONGER THAN YOU PLANNED. BUT THAT'S THE ONLY KIND OF I WISH THAT I HAD OUT OF IT, THAT WE CONTINUE THE CONVERSATION AND BRING IT TO SOME SORT OF SALIENT CONCLUSION ON THOSE LAST COUPLE OF BRAINSTORMS THAT WE DID. ARE YOU SUGGESTING FEBRUARY 5TH? I KNOW WE'VE GOT THE BUDGET PIECES, BUT YOU SAID AFTER WINTER BREAK, SO.. I DON'T KNOW WHAT, THAT'S A GREAT QUESTION, DR. HUNT. I DON'T KNOW IF IT NEEDS TO BE ITS OWN SEPARATE THING OR IF WE COULD JUST DO IT AS PART OF A WORKSHOP. BUT IT FEELS TO ME LIKE THE TIMING OF THAT FITS WITH GOAL SETTING, THE TEA, THE DATA WORK THAT WE'RE GOING TO DO WITH YOUR STAFF DURING THE SPRING SEMESTER. I THINK SOMETIME DURING THE SPRING SEMESTER. I AM NEVER A FAN OF US OVERLOADING A WORKSHOP, BECAUSE I WANT US TO BE ABLE TO GO DEEP AT WORKSHOPS ON JUST A COUPLE OF THINGS, BUT I THINK SOMETIME IN THE SPRING SEMESTER, BRINGING THAT TO SOME SORT OF FINAL POINT WOULD BE HELPFUL AND CLARIFYING FOR EVERYBODY. YEAH, I'D ECHO THE COMMENTS ALREADY MADE ABOUT HOW COLLABORATIVE AND EFFICIENT AND WELL RUN THE TEAM TRAINING WAS. I THINK EVEN HIS SUBJECT OF HOW TO CONTINUE TO GROW WHEN YOU'VE HAD SUCCESS AND HOW DO YOU KEEP PUSHING, I THINK THAT'S. A VERY TIMELY SUBJECT AND SOMETHING THAT WE NEED TO ALWAYS STRIVE FOR. AND HOW DO WE CONTINUE TO GET BETTER. SO I THINK IT WAS GREAT. I ACTUALLY ECHO YOUR COMMENTS ABOUT BUILDING ON WHAT WE'RE KIND OF ENDED WITH IN TERMS OF THE GOALS, AND IT DOES LINE UP PERFECTLY. SO IF LATER IN THE SPRING WE COULD SCHEDULE LIKE A WORKSHOP, BECAUSE ONCE WE'VE GOT ALL THIS INFORMATION, [INAUDIBLE] DESIGNS COME IN AND THEN WE CAN KIND OF SIT AND SEE, OKAY, WELL WHERE DO WE NEED TO PLUG IN? WHAT GOALS DO WE NEED TO SET AND DO WE NEED TO CHANGE ANYTHING? I THINK THAT'D BE THE RIGHT TIME. BUT I DO REMEMBER WE TALKED ABOUT SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATION AND MAYBE CREATING A BOARD SUBCOMMITTEE. I DON'T KNOW, AGAIN, THE TIMING OF THAT, BUT I THINK THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING I WOULD WANT TO MOVE FORWARD ON. AGREE COMPLETELY. BUT THAT'LL MOVE US ON TO WHOEVER'S NEXT. TRUSTEE. BENTLEY. OKAY, I WILL KEEP THESE THREE THINGS AS BRIEF AS POSSIBLE. SO THE FIRST THING IS A LEGISLATIVE AND LAWSUIT UPDATE. YOU KNOW, JUST TODAY WE GOT AN UPDATE ON THE LAWSUIT. THAT'S THE EASIER PIECE. AND BASICALLY, THERE'S A TEMPORARY INJUNCTION AGAINST MIKE MORATH AND TEA FROM RELEASING THE 2022-2023 EIGHT ACCOUNTABILITY RATINGS. I YOU KNOW, YOU GUYS ARE READING THE EMAILS THAT WE'RE GETTING, BUT FOR THE PUBLIC, WE ARE KIND OF IN A POLITICAL A LEGAL BACK AND FORTH WITH COMMISSIONER MORATH RIGHT NOW. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE COUNT IS. I DID NOT STOP, BUT I THINK IT WAS TWO PAGES OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS THAT ARE INVOLVED IN THIS LAWSUIT. AND, YOU KNOW, IT TOOK ME BACK TO WHAT WE WERE DISCUSSING DURING SEAL ABOUT THE SAFE PLACES, KNOWING WHAT THEIR RULES ARE AND HOW WE'RE GOING TO OPERATE WITHIN THE RULES. AND I THOUGHT, HUH, THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT WE'RE ASKING FOR. SO THAT'S JUST IN PROCESS, I THINK IS REALLY THE UPDATE FOR THE COMMUNITY ON THAT. AND LEGISLATIVELY, IF YOU ARE NOT AWARE, WE ARE IN SPECIAL SESSION NUMBER FOUR. IF YOU'RE KEEPING TRACK AT HOME, IT COSTS ABOUT 2 TO $3 MILLION PER SPECIAL SESSION TO HAVE EVERYBODY DOWN THERE IN AUSTIN. SO HB ONE IS BEING, YOU KNOW, HEAVILY DEBATED. WE HAVE 24 RURAL REPUBLICANS WHO HAVE STAYED THE COURSE AND ARE SAYING NO TO VOUCHERS. AND THANK GOODNESS FOR THE REST OF US THAT THEY ARE, BECAUSE THAT'S KIND OF WHY EVERYTHING IS HOLDING FIRM THERE. TO ANTHONY'S POINT EARLIER, THERE'S A LOT OF SPECULATION ON WHAT'S GOING TO HAPPEN NEXT. IF THIS SPECIAL SESSION IS GOING TO GET LEGS AND GO ANYWHERE, OR IF THERE'S GOING TO BE ANOTHER SPECIAL SESSION AFTER THE HOLIDAYS. SO THAT KIND OF REMAINS TO BE SEEN. BUT EVERYBODY IS VERY DUG IN. THERE IS GOING TO BE SOME SORT OF ACTION TAKEN IN AUSTIN ON FRIDAY. SO IF YOU ARE AVAILABLE TO GO DOWN IN PERSON, I KNOW THERE ARE A NUMBER OF TRUSTEES FROM ACROSS THE STATE COALESCING AND SHOWING UP IN PERSON ON BEHALF OF THEIR DISTRICTS. IF YOU ARE A COMMUNITY MEMBER WHO WANTS TO GET ENGAGED, PLEASE EMAIL ME. WE'VE PUT TOGETHER I HAVE PUT TOGETHER A WHATSAPP GROUP TO MAKE IT EASY FOR YOU TO REACH OUT IN AUSTIN, AND EASY FOR YOU TO REACH OUT TO THE TEXAS 24 AND THANK THEM [02:05:05] FOR SUPPORTING PUBLIC ED ACROSS THE STATE OF TEXAS, AND NOT JUST IN THEIR COMMUNITIES. IT'S MAKING A DIFFERENCE FOR EVERYBODY. SO IF YOU WANT TO GET MORE ENGAGED, PLEASE REACH OUT. THERE'S A LOT OF EASY WAYS TO DO THAT. AND THEN THE LAST THING IS THE SUPERINTENDENT BUSINESS ADVISORY COMMITTEE. SO THAT GROUP MEETS FOUR TIMES A YEAR. THEY MET OCTOBER 31ST IN THIS ROOM, AND THE BULK OF THE WORK WAS DISCUSSION ABOUT THE STRATEGIC PLANNING, BUT ALSO TALKING A LOT ABOUT THE ACTION GROUPS THAT HAVE BEEN FORMED AND ENCOURAGING OUR BUSINESS PARTNERS TO PLUG IN AS APPROPRIATE, OR PROVIDE INPUT SO THAT WE ARE FACTORING INTO THE EQUATION OF OUR STRATEGIC PLANNING. WHAT THE BUSINESSES IN OUR COMMUNITY AND OUTSIDE OUR COMMUNITY THINK IS USEFUL IN A FUTURE WORKFORCE, AND HOW DO WE PREPARE OUR STUDENTS NOW IN THE CONTEXT OF STRATEGIC PLANNING AND THE DECISIONS THAT WE'RE MAKING? SO THAT WAS THE BULK OF IT. AND WE STARTED AND ENDED ON TIME AND DID A GREAT LITTLE ICEBREAKER IN HONOR OF DR. HUNT, SINCE HE WAS DOWN WATCHING THE BAND COMPETE AT STATE. THAT IS ALL I HAVE TO REPORT. ALL RIGHT. AND TRUSTEE. WALKER. SO I'LL REPORT ON COMMUNITY BASED ACCOUNTABILITY SYSTEM. THE ADVISORY BOARD, LIKE THE SUPERINTENDENT BUSINESS ADVISORY COMMITTEE, IT MEETS FOUR TIMES A YEAR. AND SO FAR IT'S MET ON SEPTEMBER 7TH AND NOVEMBER 2ND. THE NEXT MEETING IS JANUARY 25TH. THE FIRST TWO MEETINGS THAT SEPTEMBER MEETING WAS A PREVIEW. ANGELA BROWN PREVIEWED THE CBAS DOCUMENT AND ASK FOR FEEDBACK FROM THIS SMALL GROUP OF STAKEHOLDERS THAT INCLUDES PARENTS, STUDENTS, STAFF AND COMMUNITY MEMBERS. AND THEY GAVE EXCELLENT FEEDBACK AND I THINK MADE SOME INPUT THAT CHANGED THE PRODUCT. AND THAT WAS WHAT WAS PRESENTED ON 11/2, WAS THE ACTUAL PRESENTATION OF THE BASE DOCUMENT. AND THEN ACTUALLY ALSO WENT INTO THE DASHBOARD, YOU KNOW, THE MORE REAL TIME DIGITAL DASHBOARD. AND AGAIN, JUST HAD A TIME TO REALLY GET FEEDBACK FROM THAT GROUP AND GOT SOME REALLY GOOD AND CONSTRUCTIVE WAYS TO IMPROVE CBAS. AND THAT CONCLUDES MY REPORT AGAIN. THE NEXT MEETING IS JANUARY 25TH IN THE BOARD ROOM. THANK YOU. AND TRUSTEE RAVAL TRUSTEE RAVAL. YES. SO THE DEIC THAT IS THE DISTRICT EDUCATION IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE MEETING OF OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT WAS CALLED TO ORDER ON OCTOBER 24TH AT 4:30 BY DR. BROOKS. APPROXIMATELY 50 MEMBERS ATTENDED THE MEETING, INCLUDING EDUCATORS, COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND TWO BOARD MEMBERS. THAT IS MR. HILL AND MYSELF. UM DR. BROOKS WELCOMED EVERYONE AND EXPLAINED WHY THE COMMITTEE EXISTS AND WHY IT IS IMPORTANT. COPPELL ISD UTILIZES A COLLABORATIVE PLANNING PROCESS, INCLUDING COMMUNITY AND STAFF INPUT, TO DEVELOP THE DISTRICT'S EDUCATION PLAN. DISTRICT AND CAMPUS PLANS ARE DEVELOPED ANNUALLY TO BE MUTUALLY SUPPORTIVE OF THE STATE GOALS AND OBJECTIVES UNDER EDUCATION CODE. SHE ALSO EXPLAINED THE EXPECTATIONS THAT COME WITH BEING PART OF THE COMMITTEE, WHICH INCLUDE TAKING THE INFORMATION LEARNED TO THE RESPECTIVE CAMPUSES AND DEPARTMENTS. THE NEXT AGENDA WAS APPOINTMENT OF THE CO-CHAIR. THE COMMITTEE RECEIVED TWO NOMINATIONS AND THE MAJORITY VOTED FOR CHRISTOPHER ARNEY, THE ENGLISH LANGUAGE ARTS AND READING TEACHER TO SERVE AS THE CO-CHAIR FOR THE YEAR 2023-24. AFTER THAT, MISS ROBIN WEBB PRESENTED AND GAVE INFORMATION AND UPDATES REGARDING THE ESSER FUNDS. AFTER HER PRESENTATION, SHE WELCOMED QUESTIONS. I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE A COUPLE OF THOSE WITH THE COMMUNITY. THE FIRST QUESTION WAS SINCE HEPA AIR PURIFIER AND FILTERS WERE BOUGHT WITH THIS FUND, ARE WE PLANNING ON PURCHASING REPLACEMENT FILTERS WITH SOME OF THE LEFTOVER MONEY? AND SHE SAID THE PURCHASING OF FILTERS WAS MOVED TO A DIFFERENT COVID FUND THAT WAS AWARDED LATER, AND THOSE FUNDS WERE USED TO PURCHASE REPLACEMENTS. THEN WE TALKED ABOUT CALENDAR OVERVIEW FOR THE YEARS 20 24-25 AND 20 [02:10:01] 25-26. IT WAS PRESENTED BY MRS. KRISTEN EICHEL. THE PRESENTATION WAS ABOUT THE PROCESS AND TIMELINE TO CREATE A TWO YEAR CALENDAR. IT INCLUDES LEGAL REQUIREMENTS AS WELL AS SOME OF THE DISTRICT'S TRADITIONS TO CONSIDER. SHE ASKED FOR THE ATTENDEES TO TAKE THE INFORMATION BACK TO THE CAMPUS'S DEPARTMENTS, AND TO ENCOURAGE EVERYONE TO EMAIL THEIR SUGGESTIONS AND QUESTIONS TO INPUT AT COPPELL ISD.COM. THE COMMITTEE WAS DIVIDED IN SMALL GROUPS, AND WE DISCUSSED CALENDAR POSSIBILITIES AND OPTIONS FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS. AT THE END, DR. BROOKS MENTIONED THAT THE INFORMATION ABOUT THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN AND CAMPUS IMPROVEMENTS PLAN IS AVAILABLE ON THE DISTRICT WEBSITE. THAT IS ABOUT IT FROM ME. MR. HILL, DO YOU HAVE ANYTHING TO ADD? NOTHING TO ADD. ALL RIGHT. THANK YOU. AND THAT WILL CONCLUDE OUR BOARD REPORTS. AND THAT WILL TAKE US INTO OUR CLOSED SESSION PURSUANT TO TEXAS GOVERNMENT CODE SECTION 551.071, PRIVATE CONSULTATION WITH BOARD ATTORNEYS, SECTION [IX. CLOSED SESSION (Texas Government Code, Section 551.071 - Private Consultation with Board Attorneys, Section 551.074 - Personnel Matters and Section 551.076 - Deliberation Regarding Security Devices or Security Audits) ] 55107 FOR PERSONNEL MATTERS. AND SECTION 551076 DELIBERATION REGARDING SECURITY DEVICES OR SECURITY AUDITS. TIME IS 8:11. ALL RIGHT. TIME IS 8:57, AND I WILL CALL US BACK INTO OPEN SESSION FROM CLOSED, AND WE'LL ENTERTAIN ANY MOTION. [X. RECONVENE TO OPEN SESSION] I MOVE THAT WE ADJOURN. HAVE A MOTION BY TRUSTEE NICOLE BENTLEY, SECONDED BY TRUSTEE JOBBY MATHEW THAT WE ADJOURN, ANY DISCUSSION? HEARING NONE. WE'LL TAKE A VOTE. ALL IN FAVOR? THE MOTION PASSES SIX-ZERO. WE ARE ADJOURNED AT 8:57. * This transcript was compiled from uncorrected Closed Captioning.
