WHEN WE CREATED THE PROFILE OF THE INDIVIDUAL THAT THE STAFF, THE FAMILIES, AND THE COMMUNITY WANTED IN THEIR NEXT PRINCIPAL AT NORTH, THEY WANTED SOMEONE THAT HAD A LOVE FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS AND FAMILIES AND ALL THE WONDERFULNESS AND ALL THE AWKWARDNESS AND ALL JUST THE MIDDLE SCHOOL STUFF THAT COMES WITH THAT, BUT ALSO, SOMEONE WHO UNDERSTOOD WHERE STUDENTS WERE COMING FROM AS THEY ENTERED MIDDLE SCHOOL, AND WHERE THEY WERE GOING TO AS THEY WERE LEAVING FOR HIGH SCHOOL BECAUSE THOSE ARE VERY DIFFERENT ENTRY AND EXIT POINTS.
AS CHRIS GOLDNER CAME BEFORE THE INTERVIEW COMMITTEE, ALL OF THOSE EXPERIENCES CAME TO BE ABLE TO BE DISCUSSED, AND HE WAS VERY COMFORTABLE TALKING ABOUT HIS EXPERIENCE AS AN ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AT [INAUDIBLE] CREEK, HIS PRINCIPAL EXPERIENCE AT DENTON CREEK, AND HIS AP EXPERIENCE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL, BUT WHAT HE WAS ABLE TO MOST TALK ABOUT ARE THE 11 YEARS HE SPENT AT MIDDLE SCHOOL, 10 OF THOSE AT MIDDLE SCHOOL EAST, TEACHING SCIENCE, INTERACTING WITH STUDENTS, HELPING THEM JUST FIGURE OUT WHO THEY ARE INDIVIDUALLY AND COLLECTIVELY IN THE WORLD, WORKING WITH PARENTS TO SAY, EVEN THOUGH YOUR KIDDOS SAY THEY DON'T WANT YOU INVOLVED ANYMORE, THEY NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER HERE, AND WE NEED YOU INVOLVED.
IT'S FOR ALL OF THOSE REASONS AND MORE, WE'RE EXCITED THAT MR. GOLDNER WILL BE WALKING ACROSS THE PARKING LOT FROM DENTON CREEK ELEMENTARY OVER TO CMS NORTH, AND WILL CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO SUPPORT, NOT ONLY THE FAMILIES HE SUPPORTED THE LAST TWO, BUT THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY OF SCHOOLS AND FAMILIES THAT COME TOGETHER AT NORTH.

THE PARENTS, THE STAFF, THE COMMUNITY HAD AN OPPORTUNITY THROUGH THE INPUT EMAIL TO PROVIDE THE CHARACTERISTICS, EXPERIENCE, AND ATTRIBUTES THEY WANTED IN THEIR NEXT PRINCIPAL.
AS I WAS ABLE TO SHARE WITH THE BOARD IN CLOSED SESSION, WE HAD QUITE A BIT OF INPUT CONSIDERING IT WAS SUMMER AND THAT HAD TO BE DONE ON INDIVIDUAL'S OWN TIME IN A WRITTEN FORMAT, BUT WHAT WE CONSISTENTLY HEARD INDIVIDUALS WE'RE LOOKING FOR IS SOMEONE THAT HAS PRINCIPAL EXPERIENCE, THAT HAS THE EXPERIENCE TO BRING FAMILIES IN THE COMMUNITY WITH DIFFERENT BACKGROUNDS, ETHNICITY, SOCIOECONOMIC STATUSES, EXPERIENCES TOGETHER IN ONE PLACE TO CREATE A FAMILY.
SOMEONE WHO HAD EXPERIENCES WITH ALL TYPES OF PROGRAMS, SUPPORTING STUDENTS WHO HAVE STRUGGLES, ENCOURAGING AND ENRICHING STUDENTS WHO HAVE ADVANCED SKILLS AND ARE IN THE GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM, BUT MOST SPECIFICALLY, BECAUSE WE HAVE THE DUAL LANGUAGE PROGRAM AT DENTON CREEK, SOMEONE WHO HAD EXPERIENCE WITH THE EDUCATION OF EB LEARNERS, AND PARTICULARLY BILINGUAL PROGRAMS. AS WE WERE GOING THROUGH THIS PROCESS AND PAPER SCREENING AND THE COMMITTEE BROUGHT IN EIGHT INDIVIDUALS TO TALK TO A COMMITTEE COMPRISED OF STAFF MEMBERS FROM BOTH THE CAMPUS AND THE DISTRICT LEVEL.
THE NEW PRINCIPAL OF DENTON CREEK ELEMENTARY, DR. GENET CARDOZA ROSE TO THE TOP.
SHE BRINGS WITH HER 20 PLUS YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN EDUCATION.
SHE HAS BEEN A BILINGUAL TEACHER.
SHE HAS BEEN A PRINCIPAL ON A BILINGUAL CAMPUS.
SHE HAS LED DISTRICT STRATEGIC INITIATIVES AND HAS SERVED AS AN ADMINISTRATOR AT THE DISTRICT LEVEL.
AFTER TAKING A STEP BACK AND DOING SOME CONSULTING WORK, SHE, WITH HER OWN FAMILY, WAS READY TO STEP BACK INTO THE PUBLIC SCHOOL ARENA AND CHOSE TO COME TO COPPELL BECAUSE THIS IS WHERE HER FAMILY LIVES AND WHERE HER OWN CHILDREN DO GO TO SCHOOL OR WILL GO TO SCHOOL.
WHEN THIS OPPORTUNITY CAME UP, WE SAW IT AS A PERFECT FIT FOR HER.
AFTER THE OPPORTUNITY TO VISIT WITH HER A LITTLE MORE IN CLOSED SESSION, SHE TOO FELT LIKE THIS WAS AN OPPORTUNITY THAT WAS A GREAT MATCH OF HER BACKGROUND EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS.

THEN WE HAD SEVERAL TOP FINISHES, INCLUDING FIRST PLACE WINNER IN THE CODING CATEGORY AND FIRST PLACE WINNER IN THE TRANSPORTATION MODELING CATEGORY.
WE ALSO HAD TWO TOP NATIONAL FINISHERS AT THE NATIONAL EDUCATOR RISING CONFERENCE FOR FUTURE EDUCATORS THAT WAS HELD IN WASHINGTON, DC, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SUMMER.
ONE OF OUR CHS STUDENTS PLACED THIRD IN THE NATION IN LESSON PLANNING AND DELIVERY, AND ANOTHER STUDENT PLACED THIRD NATIONALLY IN INTERACTIVE BULLETIN BOARD CONTEST.
I HOPE THOSE TWO REMEMBER US IN A FEW YEARS WHENEVER THEY WANT TO COME BACK TO TEACH.
WE ALSO HAD SEVERAL FUTURE HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS FROM CHS COMPETE AT THE HOSA INTERNATIONAL COMPETITION IN JUNE IN HOUSTON, AS WELL AS MANY TOP FINISHERS, INCLUDING THIRD PLACE FINISHER IN MEDICAL LAW AND ETHICS AND A FOURTH PLACE FINISHER IN DENTAL SCIENCE.

THE BUDGET PLANNING ALIGNS WITH THE SUPERINTENDENT PRIORITY GOAL 1 AND WITH THE [INAUDIBLE] FISCAL OPERATIONAL SYSTEMS. AS YOU MAY REMEMBER AT THE APRIL 8TH BOARD WORKSHOP, WE DISCUSSED THE OPTION THAT THE BOARD HAS TO CALL A VOTER APPROVAL TAX RATIFICATION ELECTION OR VATRE.
THE BOARD REQUESTED THAT THE DISTRICT TAKE THE NECESSARY STEPS TO ALLOW THE OPTION TO CALL THIS VATRE.
ONE OF THOSE STEPS IS TO HIRE A FIRM TO CONDUCT AN EFFICIENCY AUDIT.
TODAY, THE AUDITORS ARE PREPARED TO SHARE THEIR FINDINGS.
AS A REMINDER, THE BOARD WILL NEED TO FORMALLY CALL FOR THE ELECTION BY AUGUST 19TH AT THE LATEST.
THE POTENTIAL TAX INCREASE THAT WOULD BE CONSIDERED BY CALLING THE VATRE WOULD BE 3.17 PENNIES, WHICH WOULD PROVIDE APPROXIMATELY $2.4 MILLION IN ADDITIONAL REVENUE FOR COPPELL ISD.
THIS INCREASE IN THE TAX RATE COULD BE OFFSET BY THE ADDITIONAL COMPRESSION OF THE MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS TAX RATE IF CERTIFIED PROPERTY VALUES RISE BY AT LEAST EIGHT PERCENT.
CERTIFIED VALUES WILL BE RELEASED ON THURSDAY, JULY 25TH, PRIOR TO THE NEXT WORD WORKSHOP.
ON THAT EVENING WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO REPORT THE MAXIMUM COMPRESSED RATE THAT IS CALCULATED BY THE TEXAS EDUCATION AGENCY THAT IS THE BASIS FOR THE MAINTENANCE AND OPERATIONS TAX RATE.

IN PLANNING AND PREPARING FOR THE '24/'25 AND '25/'26 SCHOOL YEAR, WE ACTUALLY STARTED BACK IN OCTOBER DISCUSSING THOSE VARIOUS TOPICS, BRINGING TOGETHER, USUALLY AS A SUBCOMMITTEE, THIS PAST TIME WE USED THE ENTIRETY OF DEIC COMMITTEE TO REALLY LOOK AT CALENDAR OPTION.
WE ALSO, AS YOU'LL SEE IN THIS TIMELINE, HAD A NUMBER OF OPPORTUNITIES TO SOLICIT STAKEHOLDER INPUT ALONG THE WAY.
BEING COMPLETELY UPFRONT AND TRANSPARENT, WHEN WE BROUGHT THREE OPTIONS TO THE COMMUNITY TO GATHER INPUT, ALL THREE OF THOSE OPTIONS HAD SPRING BREAK LISTED AS WHAT WAS ADOPTED THE WEEK OF 17TH OF MARCH.
THE CONSIDERATIONS THAT WENT INTO THAT BRINGING THAT FORWARD, YES, ALIGNING WITH DALLAS COLLEGE WAS ONE BIG CONSIDERATION FOR OUR STUDENTS THAT ARE IN DUAL CREDIT COURSES TO BE ABLE TO ALIGN OUR BREAK WITH DALLAS COLLEGE, BUT THERE WERE ALSO SEVERAL OTHER CONSIDERATIONS THAT WERE BROUGHT FORWARD AND DISCUSSED THROUGH DEIC AND ULTIMATELY BROUGHT TO THE BOARD FOR CONSIDERATION.
ANOTHER BIG CONSIDERATION IS WHEN YOU LOOK AT THAT SECOND SEMESTER, THE ABILITY TO HAVE EQUAL GRADING PERIODS FOR THE THIRD AND FOURTH NINE WEEKS.
HAVING SPRING BREAK THE WEEK OF THE 17TH ALLOWED FOR THAT.
IN FACT, IT MAY BE ONE OF THE ONLY TIMES WHERE GRADING PERIODS HAVE BEEN EXACTLY EQUAL WITH 44 DAYS IN EACH OF THEM.
ONE OF THE REASONS THAT MOVING SPRING BREAK TO A WEEK LATER THAN IT'S BEEN IN MOST RECENT YEARS IS THAT THE WAY WINTER BREAK FALLS, WE GO INTO WINTER BREAK A LITTLE BIT CLOSER TO SOME OF THE WINTER HOLIDAYS THAT FALL IN WINTER BREAK, AND WE EXTEND LONGER INTO JANUARY BEFORE WE COME BACK TO BEGIN THAT SECOND SEMESTER, SO THOSE WERE SOME CONSIDERATIONS.
AT THE TIME THAT WE BROUGHT FORWARD A RECOMMENDATION TO YOU AS THE BOARD, THE MAJORITY OF THE DISTRICTS SURROUNDING US HAD ADOPTED THEIR CALENDARS FOR THIS YEAR THAT WE'RE HEADED INTO '24/'25 OR WE'RE IN THE PROCESS.
AT THAT TIME, THERE WERE A COUPLE OF DISTRICTS, A FEW THAT WE BORDER, THAT EITHER HAD ADOPTED A SPRING BREAK THAT WAS NOT IN ALIGNMENT WITH US THE WEEK PRIOR TO OURS, WHICH STARTS MARCH 10TH OF 2025, BUT AGAIN, THAT WAS CONSIDERED AND BALANCED AGAINST THE NUMBER OF DISTRICTS THAT HAD APPROVED OR WERE IN THE PROCESS OF APPROVING A CALENDAR THAT HAS SPRING BREAK AS MARCH 17TH.
BECAUSE WHILE WE RECOGNIZE A NUMBER OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS DO LIVE AND WORK AND HAVE THEIR OWN STUDENTS ATTEND SCHOOL HERE IN COPPELL, WE ALSO HAVE STAFF MEMBERS WHO LIVE IN OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS AND THEIR STUDENTS THE BEST CHOICE OR THE CHOICE THAT THEIR FAMILIES HAVE MADE FOR THEM IS TO PARTICIPATE IN THEIR SCHOOL DISTRICT IN WHICH THEY LIVE.
WHILE WE WISH WE COULD ALIGN WITH EVERYBODY, THAT HAS NOT ALWAYS BEEN THE CASE, PROBABLY WILL NEVER BE THE CASE WITH THE NUMBER OF SCHOOL DISTRICTS WE HAVE IN THE DFW AREA.
AGAIN, JUST WANTED EVERYBODY, FOR REFERENCE TONIGHT AND AS A PART OF THIS PRESENTATION, TO HAVE THE ADOPTION TIMELINE THAT WE WENT THROUGH.
BACK WHEN WE BROUGHT A RECOMMENDATION AND IT WAS APPROVED, AND THAT WAS BACK IN JANUARY, TO HAVE DALLAS COLLEGE MAKE THE DECISION THAT THEY DID,

WE HAVE SHARED WITH THE STAFF MEMBERS, IF THEIR FAMILY SPRING BREAK IS NOT ALIGNED WITH OURS, SOME DIFFERENT CONSIDERATIONS THAT WE CAN GIVE TO ENSURE THAT THEY HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEND TIME OFF WITH THEIR OWN CHILDREN WHEN THEY'RE OFF AS WELL AS TO OBVIOUSLY BE OFF DURING OUR SPRING BREAK, BUT PLANS HAVE BEEN MADE AROUND THIS CALENDAR, FIELD TRIPS HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED, ALLASO RANCH TRIPS HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED, MEETING, DATES, PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND TRAINING HAS ALL BEEN SCHEDULED WITHIN THE DISTRICT.
WHAT WE KNOW FROM OUR COMMUNITY, THEM BEING PLANNERS AS WELL, OUR ASSUMPTION WOULD BE, AND MS. BROWN WILL GET TO SPEAK TO INPUT HERE IN A MINUTE, THAT MANY OF OUR FAMILIES HAVE ALREADY MADE PLANS AROUND THIS CALENDAR.

WHILE WE DO HAVE SOME STUDENTS THAT PARTICIPATE IN PERSON, THE MAJORITY OF OUR STUDENTS PARTICIPATE IN ONLINE LEARNING FOR THOSE DUAL CREDIT COURSES THAT THEY TAKE AT THE HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL.
REGARDLESS OF THE DIRECTION THAT YOU, AS THE BOARD, DECIDE TO GO TONIGHT, WE HAVE ASSURANCES FROM DALLAS COLLEGE THAT THEY'RE GOING TO MAKE ACCOMMODATIONS FOR STUDENTS REGARDLESS OF WHEN THEIR SPRING BREAK IS TO ENSURE THAT THEY CAN TAKE A BREAK, THAT THEY CAN GET THE NEEDED REST AND TIME TO VACATION OR RELAX WITH THEIR FAMILY, AS WELL AS BE ABLE TO APPROPRIATELY CONTINUE THEIR COURSE WORK.
THERE'S MORE FLEXIBILITY FOR THE MAJORITY OF OUR STUDENTS AGAIN BECAUSE THEY'RE DOING THAT WORK ONLINE AT THEIR OWN PACE ANYWAY REGARDLESS OF WHEN SPRING BREAK FALLS.
I ALSO THOUGHT IT WAS IMPORTANT FOR EVERYONE TONIGHT AND IN THE COMMUNITY.

YOU'LL SEE THERE IS SOME VARIATION BETWEEN MARCH 10TH THROUGH 14TH AND MARCH 17TH THROUGH 21ST, BUT YOU'LL STILL SEE THAT THE MAJORITY OF DISTRICTS THAT WE TYPICALLY COMPARE OURSELVES TO BOTH IN REGION 10 AND REGION 11 HAVE THEIR SPRING BREAK ALIGNMENT WITH MARCH 17TH THROUGH 21ST.
THESE ARE THE SPRING BREAKS THAT WERE IN PLACE OR IN THE PROCESS OF BEING APPROVED AT THE TIME IN JANUARY WHEN YOU AS A BOARD APPROVED OURS, ALL EXCEPT FOR RICHARDSON ISD, WHO VERY QUICKLY MADE A CHANGE TO THEIR SPRING BREAK ONCE DALLAS COLLEGE ANNOUNCED THAT THEY WERE CHANGING THEIRS, AND THEY HAVE ALIGNED THAT.
AGAIN, I DON'T HAVE PERSONAL KNOWLEDGE, BUT IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT IN RICHARDSON ISD, AGAIN, MANY OF THEIR STUDENTS ATTEND DALLAS COLLEGE IN PERSON, AND SO THEY HAD SOME DIFFERENT NEEDS THAT THEY FELT LIKE NEEDED TO BE MET, BUT AGAIN, THAT'S A VERY HIGH LEVEL OF UNDERSTANDING.

THE VARYING REASONS FOR THAT WERE THE MAJORITY OF THEM WE'RE ASKING US TO ALIGN WITH OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS, SO MAYBE LOUISVILLE ISD OR OTHER SCHOOL DISTRICTS.
FOUR OF THEM WERE NEUTRAL AND JUST SAID THANK YOU FOR ASKING FOR INPUT.
IT IS IMPORTANT TO NOTE JUST LIKE MS. EICHEL SHARED THAT SEVERAL OF THE PEOPLE WHO RESPONDED SHARED THAT SCHOOL TRIPS HAD ALREADY BEEN PLANNED.

FOR '24-'25, JUST THE NATURE OF WHEN GOOD FRIDAY FALLS AND OUR BREAK IN APRIL FALLS, THEY DO ALIGN FOR THIS UPCOMING SCHOOL YEAR.
BUT FOR '25-'26, THE WAY THE CALENDAR HAS BEEN ADOPTED, THEY DO NOT ALIGN, AND WE HAVE RECEIVED SOME INPUT OFFICIALLY THROUGH SOME CASUAL CONVERSATIONS THAT STAFF MEMBERS AND FAMILIES WOULD LIKE US TO RECONSIDER THAT FOR '25-'26.

IT WAS THE SAME GROUP THAT HAD BEEN TOGETHER IN AUSTIN EARLIER IN THE SPRING.
VERY FEW RESOLUTIONS WERE RECEIVED FROM OTHER ISDS.
REALLY, WE SPENT OUR TIME WORDSMITHING AND TWEAKING WHAT WAS PRESENTED ONTO THE LAC GROUP.
THE OVERALL OVERWHELMING CONSENSUS WAS THAT WE SHOULD CONTINUE TO KEEP THE MESSAGING SIMPLE AND CONCISE, LIKE WHAT I HAD SHARED WITH YOU ALL IN THE SPRING AFTER WE FIRST MET.

ONE, THEY HAVE A STRATEGIC PLAN THAT'S CALLED THE 2030.
METROCREST 2030 HAVE FIVE MAJOR AREAS, NUTRITIOUS FOOD.
GOAL IS TO PROVIDE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO HEALTHY FOOD PROGRAMS AND NUTRITION, EDUCATION TO 100 PERCENT OF THOSE SEEKING FOOD ASSISTANCE.
HOUSING STABILITY, NUMBER 2, IS A GOAL TO PROVIDE PROGRAMS THAT LEAD TO FAMILIES SPENDING NO MORE THAN 30 PERCENT OF THEIR INCOME ON HOUSING, ADVOCATE FOR ACCESSIBLE HOUSING, AND ASSIST THE UNSHELTERED WITH HOUSING SOLUTIONS.
THE THIRD ONE IS ECONOMIC STABILITY.
THE GOAL IS TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO HIGH QUALITY FINANCIAL EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE PROGRAMS. ENSURING 100 PERCENT OF OUR CLIENTS HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO SECURE LIVABLE WAGE JOBS.
FOURTH ONE IS HEALTHCARE ACCESS, PROVIDE EQUITABLE ACCESS TO QUALITY AND AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE.
THE FIVE IS QUALITY SENIOR SERVICES, GOAL TO PROVIDE ACCESS TO SERVICES.
THAT SUPPORT THE SENIOR COMMUNITIES UNIQUE NEEDS, FOSTER INDEPENDENCE, AND ENHANCED QUALITY OF LIFE.
THE REASON I BRING THAT UP BECAUSE OF THE DISTRICT IMPROVEMENT PLAN THAT WE HAVE, WE MAY HAVE FAMILIES IN OUR DISTRICT AC INDIVIDUALS THAT MAY HAVE NEEDS IN THESE AREAS.
