I'M EXCITED TO SHARE SOME RECENT DISTRICT HIGHLIGHTS AND UPDATES.

FIRST, WE ARE #CISC PROUD OF COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL ALUMNI, CHIAKA OGBOGU, OR CHI AS WE CALLED HER BACK IN THE DAY.

SHE SERVED UP AN INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE AS PART OF THE USA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL TEAM WINNING A SILVER MEDAL AT THE PARIS 2024 OLYMPICS, WHICH IS A NICE ADD TO HER TROPHY CASE BECAUSE SHE ALREADY HAS A GOLD FROM THE PREVIOUS OLYMPICS.

BUT SHE WAS ALSO NAMED THE BEST MIDDLE BLOCKER OF THE GAMES.

SHE'S BEEN A POWERFUL FORCE AT EVERY LEVEL.

PLAYING AT COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL BACK IN THE DAY, SHE BROUGHT US TO TWO STATE TITLES IN 2011 AND 2012.

SHE WAS NAMED THE TEXAS HIGH SCHOOL VOLLEYBALL PLAYER OF THE YEAR IN 2012.

AFTER A STELLAR COLLEGE CAREER AT UT, AND A PROFESSIONAL PLAY IN ITALY, POLAND, AND TURKEY, SHE CONTINUES TO BLOCK THE COMPETITION AS A MEMBER OF THE US NATIONAL TEAM SINCE 2018.

VERY PROUD OF CHI.

SHE'S JUST AN AMAZING YOUNG WOMAN.

WE HAD AN INCREDIBLE CONVOCATION A FEW WEEKS AGO, ON AUGUST THE 9TH, THAT WAS A RESOUNDING SUCCESS.

WE HAD SEVERAL CORPORATE SPONSORS, INCLUDING BAILEY ORTHODONTICS AND ONCORE PRODUCTION COMPANY, BUT OUR KEY SPONSOR WAS THE COPPELL EDUCATION FOUNDATION.

THEIR FINANCIAL BACKING HELPED US REALLY ELEVATE THIS EVENT TO SOMETHING THAT WAS TRULY INSPIRATIONAL.

WE HAD OUR THEME OF THE PLACES RIGHT THAT GOES ALONGSIDE OUR DISTRICT THEME OF MY HOME IS CISD.

WE HAD FOUR-DAY WEEKEND THAT LED US INTO SEVERAL GAMES AND FUN EVENTS.

WE HAD AN INCREDIBLE MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER, HEYWARD JEAN, AMAZING SPEECHES FROM OUR TEACHERS OF THE YEAR, CHASE WOFFORD FROM COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL AND HEATHER NARAGON FROM AUSTIN ELEMENTARY.

IT REALLY WAS A GREAT EVENT, A WONDERFUL WAY FOR US TO KICK OFF THE SCHOOL YEAR WITH OUR STAFF, AND IT REALLY DID HELP RESONATE THAT COPPELL ISD IS THE PLACE TO BE FOR OUR INCREDIBLE TEACHERS AND STAFF.

SPEAKING OF INCREDIBLE STAFF MEMBERS, CONGRATULATIONS TO CHS9, AP COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHER, SENECA HART.

SHE HAS BEEN CHOSEN AS ONE OF ONLY 50 EDUCATORS NATIONWIDE AND ONLY THREE IN TEXAS, FOR THE PRESTIGIOUS AMAZON FUTURE ENGINEER TEACHER AMBASSADOR PROGRAM.

THIS IS A TWO-YEAR PROGRAM, IT'S A PAID FELLOWSHIP, AND THAT WILL EMPOWER MS. HART TO ENHANCE HER COMPUTER SCIENCE SKILLS AND HELP HER BRING THAT INTO OUR CLASSROOMS AT CHS9.

SHE HAS BEEN FOCUSING ON STEAM FOR ALL OF HER STUDENTS, WHICH IS A GREAT CORRELATION TO OUR STEAM PROGRAM AS SHE'S FOCUSED ON STEM.

THROUGH THIS PROGRAM, HART WILL ENGAGE WITH THE COMMUNITY TO BREAK DOWN BARRIERS TO STEM, WHICH IS SCIENCE, TECHNOLOGY, ENGINEERING, AND MATH, A PILOT INNOVATIVE TEACHING STRATEGIES AND CONNECT WITH THE NETWORK OF EDUCATORS DEDICATED TO INSPIRING THE NEXT GENERATION OF TECH LEADERS.

CONGRATULATIONS TO MS. HART.

WE'RE IN THE SECOND WEEK OF SCHOOL, I KNOW IT WAS ONLY THREE DAYS LAST WEEK.

BUT YOU ASKED THE KIDS, IT'S THE SECOND WEEK WE ALL COUNTED AS THE SECOND WEEK.

WE HAD A GREAT FIRST DAY LAST WEDNESDAY, THANK YOU TO OUR PARENTS, OUR PRINCIPALS, ALL OF OUR STAFF MEMBERS, AND OF COURSE, TO OUR AMAZING STUDENTS WHO HELPED MAKE LAST WEDNESDAY SUCH A BIG SUCCESS.

I WAS ABLE TO VISIT ALL OF OUR CAMPUSES, AND THE ENERGY AND ENTHUSIASM WAS CONTAGIOUS, SO PROUD OF ALL OF OUR STUDENTS, SO PROUD OF OUR STAFF AND OUR TEACHERS.

YOU'VE HEARD A LOT FROM US ABOUT HOW IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE IS, KIDS LEARN BEST WHEN THEY'RE IN SCHOOL.

KIDS ARE ABLE TO CONNECT WITH THEIR PEERS, AND DEVELOPS STRONG SOCIAL AND EMOTIONAL RELATIONSHIPS WHEN THEY'RE IN SCHOOL.

THAT'S ALSO HOW WE ARE FUNDED IN THE STATE OF TEXAS.

WE REALLY HAVE BEEN PROMOTING THE IMPORTANCE OF ATTENDANCE, HOW STARTING STRONG IS THE KEY TO A SUCCESSFUL SCHOOL YEAR.

IT'S PART OF A VERY ROBUST ATTENDANCE MATTERS CAMPAIGN THAT MS. BROWN AND THE ENTIRE COMMUNICATIONS TEAM HAS REALLY PUT TOGETHER TO HELP US TRACK ATTENDANCE, REINFORCE THE IMPORTANCE OF ATTENDANCE.

AS I SAID, TEXAS SCHOOLS ARE FUNDED BASED ON AVERAGE DAILY ATTENDANCE, SO IT'S IMPORTANT IN THAT REGARD AS WELL.

LAST SPRING, WHEN WE WERE DOING OUR BUDGET PRESENTATIONS TO THE COMMUNITY, WE HAD A LOT OF FEEDBACK FROM PARENTS THAT JUST SAID, DR. HUNT, WE HAD NO IDEA HOW IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE WAS, AND WE'RE REALLY MAKING A COMMITMENT AS A FAMILY TO FOCUS ON NOT HAVING ANY MORE THAN FIVE ABSENCES IF POSSIBLE.

OBVIOUSLY, IF SOMEBODY'S SICK, THEY NEED TO STAY HOME, BUT WE'RE REALLY WORKING CLOSELY WITH OUR CAMPUSES TO MAKE SURE THAT PEOPLE UNDERSTAND HOW ATTENDANCE DOES MATTER.

HOUSE BILL 3 COMPLIANCE.

I WANT TO LET YOU KNOW THAT SCHOOL RESOURCE OFFICERS AND SCHOOL RESOURCE DEPUTIES HAVE BEEN LARGELY PUT IN OUR DISTRICT.

WE ARE CURRENTLY UPDATING FACILITIES TO PUT THE [INAUDIBLE] CAMERAS, DOOR ACCESS, AND PANIC BUTTONS, AND WE HAVE COMPLETED THE RADIO COMMUNICATIONS ACROSS THE DISTRICT TO PROVIDE MORE CHANNELS FOR RADIO EMERGENCY COMMUNICATION ACCORDING TO HOUSE BILL 3.

I WANT TO GIVE A BIG CONGRATULATIONS TO EVERY CAMPUS ON THEIR DOOR SWEEPS.

WE HAD 100% PASS RATE, NO FAILURES, AND I LOOK FORWARD TO THIS COMING YEAR WORKING WITH YOU GUYS TO IMPLEMENT THE SAME STRATEGY.

I WANT TO INTRODUCE YOU TO THE NEW TEA PLATFORM, WHICH IS A REPOSITORY FOR DOCUMENTS THAT WE CAN PUT IN FOR ACCOUNTABILITY.

OUR DOOR SWEEPS, OUR DRILLS, WILL BE GOING INTO THIS REPOSITORY, AND IT JUST ALLOWS US TO SEE WHERE WE ARE NOW, AND IN THE FUTURE IF WE NEED TO MAKE ANY CHANGES.

ROUGHLY WE HAVE APPROXIMATELY ABOUT $70 MILLION IN CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS, NON TECHNOLOGY RELATED PROJECTS THAT ARE TAKING PLACE THAT EITHER TOOK PLACE THIS SUMMER OR ARE STILL IN PROGRESS.

TO START WITH THAT, JUST LOOKING AT THE WILSON AND MOCKINGBIRD REFRESH.

AT THE LEFT IS A BEFORE AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S LOOKING IN A DIFFERENT DIRECTION, THE ONE ON THE RIGHT IS THE AFTER.

YOU CAN SEE IT HAS THE NEW WINS COATING ON THE WALLS, REPLACING THE OLD LAMINATE, NEW LVT FLOORING.

IT LOOKS LIKE WOOD, BUT IT'S NOT REALLY WOOD AND IT HAS A LITTLE BIT OF ACOUSTICAL PROPERTY TO IT AS WELL AS A LITTLE BIT OF CUSH.

IT'S NOT LIKE THE VINYL TILE THAT YOU'RE USED TO.

IT'S SOFTER AND JUST HAS MORE PROPERTIES AND LOOKS BETTER.

YOU CAN ALSO SEE THE NEW LED LIGHTING THAT IS IN THE CEILINGS AND NEW PAINT ON THE WALLS.

THERE'S STILL A FEW THINGS LEFT TO DO THAT ARE ON THE PUNCH LIST AT WILSON AND MOCKINGBIRD, INCLUDING THE DOOR HARDWARE AND A FEW OTHER SMALL ITEMS. BUT FOR THE MOST PART, WILSON AND MOCKINGBIRD, I'D SAY WE ARE 95% COMPLETE.

THIS IS ANOTHER PHOTO OF A TYPICALLY REFRESHED HALLWAY AT THOSE CAMPUSES, SO YOU CAN SEE CHARACTER WAS ADDED INTO THE AREAS AS WELL.

THIS IS THE NEW LIBRARY SHELVING ON THE LEFT AND ON THE RIGHT, AND THE NEW LIBRARY TABLES AND CHAIRS, AS WELL AS YOU CAN SEE THE NEW CARPET.

I THINK THE LIBRARIES TURNED OUT REALLY NICE.

THEY HAVE A REALLY GOOD FEEL TO THEM.

I TOOK THESE WHILE THE FURNITURE INSTALLERS WERE ACTUALLY ON SITE, SO THE CHAIRS WEREN'T IN THIS PARTICULAR CLASSROOM YET.

BUT ALL THE NEW FURNITURE FOR MOCKINGBIRD AND WILSON ARE IN PLACE AT THIS TIME. LIBRARY MURAL.

YOU CAN SEE THE WILSON RANGERS.

THEY TURNED OUT REALLY WELL.

WHEN YOU WALK INTO THE LIBRARY AND YOU SEE THAT, YOU CAN'T HELP, HAS A REALLY GOOD FEELING TO IT.

AS WELL AS JUST THE WHOLE LIBRARY IS MUCH BRIGHTER AND HAS A REALLY GOOD FEEL TO IT.

YOU CAN SEE THEY'RE DOING AND RE-ROUTING PLUMBING.

THAT'S WHY THE FLOOR IS CUT OUT.

IT'S GOING TO BE READY AT THE END OF WINTER BREAK.

IT WILL BE READY.

THE LIBRARY WILL BE READY TO OCCUPY, AS WELL AS THE NEW ADMINISTRATIVE FACILITY.

THESE ARE THE GRADE BEAMS FOR THE ADMINISTRATIVE FACILITY.

THAT WILL BE THE NEW ENTRANCE FOR THE CAMPUS, AND THEN YOU'LL ENTER THE CAMPUS ONCE YOU GO THROUGH THE NEW ADMINISTRATIVE FACILITY.

THEY WILL BE POURING THE CONCRETE ON THIS DECK SUPPOSEDLY TOMORROW MORNING.

THAT WILL HAVE CONCRETE, AND YOU CAN SEE IT HAS CRAWL SPACE UNDERNEATH IT, AND IT'S A PIER AND BEAM STRUCTURE.

THOSE BEAMS GO WELL DOWN INTO THE BEDROCK SO THAT WITH THE POOR SOILS IN THE VALLEY RANCH AREA, THAT BUILDING SHOULD NEVER MOVE.

MOCKINGBIRD AND WILSON. THIS IS THE RECEPTION AREA.

YOU CAN SEE IT'S MUCH BRIGHTER, CLEANER, AND HAS A MUCH BETTER FEEL TO IT AS WELL. THEY'VE CLEANED IT UP.

THIS WAS STILL DURING THE MOVE IN PHASE. NEW PLAYGROUND.

ALL OF THE PLAYGROUNDS, THEY'RE STILL GOING THROUGH THE PUNCH LIST PHASE.

THEY WERE ALL ACTUALLY USABLE AT THIS POINT.

THE IRRIGATION HAS BEEN INSTALLED AND WE ONLY LACK DOWN CENTER FOR THE NEW GRASS SOD.

BUT THE FALL SURFACING, YOU MIGHT HAVE HEARD AT RICHARD J LEE ELEMENTARY.

THE PLAYGROUND COMPANY, WHEN THEY POUR THIS FALL SURFACING, THAT'S REAL CUSHIONY, THEY HIRE SOMEONE THAT ACTUALLY SPENDS THE NIGHT WITH IT SO THAT IT CAN ENSURE NO PERSON OR ANIMAL WALKS ACROSS IT UNTIL IT'S FULLY CURED.

BUT WE'RE GOING TO HAVE A BLACK TRACK FOR A WHILE BEFORE THEY CAN ACTUALLY LAY THE TRACK.

BUT WE WANT IT DONE RIGHT, AND WE DON'T WANT TO HAVE ANY CHANCE THAT STRUCTURALLY WON'T HOLD UP LIKE WE EXPECTED.

LOOKING FORWARD, ACTUALLY TOMORROW MORNING, WE ARE GOING TO WALK COPPELL MIDDLE SCHOOL NORTH TO START PLANNING FOR THE FINE ARTS EXPANSION AND THE REFRESH OF THAT BUILDING.

WE HOPE TO START THAT NEXT SUMMER, WHICH WILL ALSO INCLUDE FURNITURE REPLACEMENT AS PART OF THE BOND FOR NORTH.

WHEN THE STUDENTS AND STAFF COME BACK, THOSE AREAS SHOULD BE 95% COMPLETE WITH NEW FURNITURE.

THEN WE WILL DO THE REMAINDER OF VALLEY RANCH FURNITURE NEXT SUMMER AS THAT PROJECT FINISHES UP.

WE WILL ALSO BE STARTING PROBABLY RIGHT AFTER THE FIRST OF THE YEAR, LOOKING AT THE COPPELL HIGH SCHOOL CTE CENTER DESIGN.

WE HAVE A LITTLE BIT MORE TIME ON THAT BECAUSE THAT PROJECT WILL NOT BEGIN UNTIL AFTER BAND AND CHOIR MOVE INTO THE NEW FACILITY.

ANOTHER THING WE'RE REALLY GOING TO FOCUS ON THIS YEAR IS THAT ATTENDANCE PIECE AS WELL, AND LOOKING AT HOW DOES THAT FALL INTO MTSS, AND SUPPORTING OUR KIDS TO GET THEM HERE, BECAUSE WE KNOW WHEN THEY'RE HERE, THEN WE CAN DO THE THINGS WE NEED TO DO WITH THEM.

IT DOESN'T JUST START IN MIDDLE SCHOOL.

IT REALLY STARTS AT THE ELEMENTARY LEVEL AND THAT CAREER AWARENESS TALKING ABOUT, WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE? WHO DO YOU WANT TO BECOME WHENEVER YOU ARE LEAVING US FROM YOUR JOURNEY HERE? YOU THINK, "OH MY GOSH, MY CHILD IS JUST STARTING PRE K OR KINDERGARTEN." THEY ALREADY HAVE JOBS THERE.

WE HAVE AN MEDICAL ASSISTANT PROGRAM THAT IS REALLY THRIVING.

WE ACTUALLY DON'T HAVE ENOUGH TEACHERS FOR THE AMOUNT OF KIDS THAT WANT TO TAKE MEDICAL ASSISTANT.

WE HAVE AN EMT PROGRAM THAT GARY BYER RUNS. HE'S GETTING OLD.

I SAID, "DUDE, YOU GOT TO HANG ON." [LAUGHTER] WE STILL GOT A LOT OF KIDS WE GOT TO GET THROUGH.

BUT ALL OF THOSE PROGRAMS, AND THEN YOU TAKE THAT WHOLE HOST OF PROGRAMS OUT TO OUR TRAINING ROOM, AND I HAVE TRAINERS WHO ARE TRAINING OUR KIDS TO BE PROFESSIONAL TRAINERS WHO CAN GO AND TAKE CARE OF THEM.

THANK GOODNESS, CAVINESS' SON IS A TRAINER BECAUSE YOU NEVER KNOW WHEN HE'S GOING TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK AT THESE MEETINGS.

OUR TECHNICAL, EVERYTHING WE DO FROM COMPUTER SCIENCE TO ROBOTICS, IT'S JUST HUGE.

WE'RE REALLY EXCITED ABOUT ONE DAY HAVING MORE SPACE TO EVEN EXPAND OUR CTE PROGRAM BECAUSE OUR POOR LITTLE ROBOTICS HAS TO GO IN LITTLE SQUARES IN THE ROOM RIGHT NOW.

BUT WE'RE VERY EXCITED ABOUT THAT.

THEN YOU GO ALL THE WAY OVER TO OUR DECA PROGRAM, AND WE ARE THE STATE REPRESENTATIVES.

WE'VE GOT OUR KIDS TWO YEARS IN A ROW.

WE HAVE THE STATE PRESIDENT FOR DECA, BECAUSE THEY'RE JUST AMAZING.

OUR KIDS GO IN THROUGH MARKETING AND THEY JUST ARE READY TO WALK OUT, AND LIKE I SAID, AND GO APPLY FOR SCHOLARSHIPS AND GET THEM BECAUSE THEY JUST KNOW HOW TO PRESENT THEMSELVES, HOW TO MARKET THEMSELVES.

IT'S BEEN FANTASTIC TO WATCH ALL ACROSS EVERYTHING WE DO I THINK THROUGH OUR CTE PROGRAMS. BUT THEN THIS YEAR, WE HAD TO ADD TWO COMPUTER SCIENCE TEACHERS BECAUSE OUR COMPUTER SCIENCE PROGRAMS ARE GOING STRONG.

WE'VE STARTED MOVING SOME OF OUR COMPUTER SCIENCE EVEN DOWN INTO OUR MIDDLE SCHOOLS MORE.

WHEN THEY GET TO US, THEY'RE REALLY GOING INTO COMPUTER SCIENCE 1, 2, 3, AND 4.

I HAVE A TEACHER NAMED MICHAEL FINNEGAN WHO IS PHENOMENAL.

HE LEFT THE CORPORATE WORLD TO COME TEACH COMPUTER SCIENCE FOR US, AND HE IS AMAZING AT WHAT HE DOES, AND HE TRAINS ALL MY NEW TEACHERS THAT COME IN.

I CAN'T BRAG ENOUGH ABOUT MY STAFF.

THEY ARE FANTASTIC.

ALL OF OUR CTE TEACHERS ARE JUST AMAZING.

I WANT TO GIVE A SPECIAL SHOUT OUT TO JOSH WHO'S COME OVER, JOSH HOWARD.

WHAT A BEAUTIFUL GIFT TO OUR WHOLE CTE PROGRAM FROM THE BOTTOM UP.

I KNOW HE TAKES MY ORDERS, AND IT'S FANTASTIC.

BUT WE ARE LUCKY.

WE'RE SO LUCKY AT WHAT WE HAVE IN COPPELL, AND OUR KIDS KNOW THAT, AND WE STRESS THAT ALL THE TIME.

WHEN WE TALK ABOUT WHAT LIES AHEAD AND WHAT WE'RE TRYING TO DO AS A DISTRICT, YOU KNOW THAT WE'VE GOT BIG DECISIONS THAT ARE ON THE HORIZON AND WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT CONSOLIDATION OF SCHOOLS, BOTH ELEMENTARY, SECONDARY, EVERYTHING IS ON THE TABLE.

WE SEND OUT UPDATES AFTER EVERY ONE OF OUR WORKSHOPS AND BOARD MEETINGS.

AS WE JUST HEARD THROUGH THE CAMPUS IMPROVEMENT PLANS AND THE WORK THAT OUR CENTRAL ADMINISTRATORS DO TO MEET ALL THE NEEDS, NOT ONLY FOR THE STAFF, BUT FOR THE STUDENTS, IT IS ESSENTIAL TO DO THAT, AND TO YOUR POINT ACROSS THE STATE, EVERYBODY IS GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING, SMALL, MEDIUM, AND LARGE DISTRICTS, AND THEY'RE TRYING TO FIND WAYS TO DO THINGS, AND THERE'S ONLY SO MANY WAYS TO CUT.

AS DR. THE ABSENCE OF FUNDING MEANS THOSE THINGS WILL INEVITABLY HAVE TO GO AWAY OR WE'LL HAVE TO START REDUCING THOSE.

I FEEL LIKE OUR BACK'S AGAINST THE WALL IN THIS SITUATION.

IT'S UNFORTUNATE THAT SCHOOL FINANCE IS THE WAY IT IS IN OUR GREAT STATE, BUT THIS IS ONE OF THE LAST REMAINING LEVERS THAT WE HAVE TO PULL, AND I THINK IT'S TIME TO PULL IT.

WE ALSO APPROVED PROTIVITY, WHO IS THE INTERNAL AUDIT FIRM FOR US FOR THE FUND, ALSO THE 2024, '25 STOP LOSS AND REINSURANCE PROGRAMS, WHICH INCLUDES WORKERS' COMPENSATION, LIABILITY, EQUIPMENT BREAKDOWN, AND PRIVACY AND INFORMATION SECURITY, AND THEN ALSO APPROVED THE CONSULTING ACTUARY AGREEMENT WITH GEORGE TURNER TO LOOK OVER THE WORK OF PWC TO ENSURE THE CONTINUITY AND TRANSITION OF THE WORK TAKES PLACE.

WE ALSO APPROVED THE SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH THE TEXAS ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOL ADMINISTRATORS.

IN ADDITION, WE APPROVE THE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP SUPPORT AT TASB ADVOCACY AND GOVERNMENT EVENTS, AND ALSO APPROVED THE EXTENSION WITH VECTOR SOLUTIONS.

THEY PROVIDE ONLINE TRAINING SERVICES FOR ONE YEAR FOR COVERAGE FOR SPECIFIC AND COMPLIANCE RELATED TRAINING.

AS MEMBERS SIGN UP AND GO THROUGH THAT TRAINING, THEY DO THAT THROUGH THEM AND IT HAS BEEN HIGHLY EFFECTIVE FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND THEY CONTINUE TO DO THAT.

THE WEATHER RELATED CLAIMS FOR THE FUND MEMBERS WERE DOWN YEAR OVER YEAR BY 36%.
